2. I carried out a research into different genres of a Music Magazine
to be inspired by one, so that I can use it for my own Music
Magazine. For every genre, I found that there was a different
target audience, different features, a different scheme of colors and
different way of representation of both the pictorial as well as the
textural elements in the magazine.
3. GENRE: POP
Generally Pop magazines are presented by a scheme of bright
and cheery colors, such as pink or purple. Through this scheme of
colors it is made very clear that the target audience for such
magazines are teenage girls. The pop magazine usually features
the image of a singer or celebrity with a recent release of album or
movie whom the teenage girls like to listen to or watch. The usage
of language is rather simple as it is understood easily by the
reader and get straight to the main story.
5. GENRE: HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a subculture that came into being in the 1970s by the
fusion of Latin American and African American. This culture is
mainly classified into four sub components- rapping, DJ’ing,
breaking and graffiti. The color scheme of hip hop magazines is
dark colors with the usage of red particularly. The target audience
of hip hop magazines are teenagers because it is the type of
music teenagers like listening to in this generation. The main
image is usually of a singer with a recent release.
7. GENRE: CLASSICAL
The Classical Music Magazine are aimed to inspire the older
generation as classical music is slow and relaxing. The color
scheme of such magazine are very soft and subtle for example
white, black and other light shaded colors. The image is usually of
an artist with recent performance that features as the main
highlight of the magazine.
9. GENRE: ROCK
The Rock Magazine usually use the scheme of dark, gloomy and
dusky colors. However, the target audience for such magazine is
not limited to a specific age group, people of various age groupsteenagers as well as middle aged people- tend to be interested in
such magazines. A lot of text is put into such magazines and
very detailed and explicit.
11. GENRE: R&B
The R&B Magazines are usually very brightly colored. The target
audience for such magazines are without doubt the teenagers
judging by the language used in these magazines. The cover
page usually features a singer with a recent release of an album.
Not a lot of text is used in such magazines but significant amount
of images are used.
