1. Educational visit of D class in salt flats of
Mesologgi
The 4th grade of the 17th Primary School of Agrinio visited the KPE
Messolonghi - Thermo, with the teachers of the two departments, Mr.
Ziogas Chr. and Mr. Boutsiadou Athanasia in the context of
Environmental Education implementing a related program.
Starting from the Trikoupio Cultural Center where a theoretical
environmental approach was made to the KPE's area of activity, the
children watched a presentation about the "Mesolongi Salt Flats" followed
by a discussion, analysis, explanation of various phrases (e.g. Together
we ate bread and salt, I made him of salt, column of salt, truth without
lies-eat without salt, unsalted person, salty account, what we said water
and salt...). They finished with a musical activity about salt.
2. It was followed by a tour with a detailed tour of
Tourlis. The children were impressed by
observing the "pelades" or "pilades" (the wooden
houses supported on stilts above the surface of
the water, and the "ivarias" (the stilted mesh
barriers for controlling fish movements and
fishing) , the "gaites" (boats) and from the overall
general picture of the landscape, which was
complemented by the protected rare birds of the
area.
3. Salt flats of
Foinikia
Then they visited the Salt Flats of
Foinikia.
There was a bus tour of the salt flats area.
They walked between the "pans" (heaters). They came into direct contact with the
space. They caught - they touched the raw material of the salt (crystals, plaster...).
They observed the avifauna of the salt flats. They were divided into action groups
and at the end each group presented their work. They gained a unique experience
from the visit to the salt harvesting area. They became familiar with the process of
producing the "golden treasure (salt). Finally they played with the salt in the big
piles, processed it, observed it in every detail and took with them as much as they
could for a sample.
Finally, after thanking the ladies in charge of the KPE with the best words, all the
excited children returned to school wiser...!
