In modern day, television is very prominent in many people's lives. This brings attention to the
question of whether or not watching television makes you smarter. Some argue that because of
complex shows such as 24, the culture is getting "more cognitively demanding, not less" (278).
However, some believe that mass culture "follows a path declining steadily toward
lowest–common–denominator standards, presumably because the 'masses' want dumb, simple
pleasures and big media companies try to give the masses what they want" (278). In Steven
Johnson's article, Watching TV Makes You Smarter, he asserts that exactly what his title suggests.
He believes this because of something he calls the Sleeper Curve. The Sleeper Curve is the concept
of cognitive intricacy improving due to mass media influences. Johnson does an exceptional job at
convincing myself and other readers that watching television can, in fact, make you smarter. He does

Sometimes songs get stuck in your head, other times it is a sentence that just won't go away and
sometimes it is something as simple as a single word that keeps repeating itself until it doesn't sound
like a proper word anymore.
In her short story "People–Watching" from 2014, Julia Gray tells the story of Kajsa and Paul, two
students who are both taking the Introduction to Drawing module at the art school of UC London. In

Another important symbol in the story is the protagonist Paul's cup of coffee, at first he is not ready
to draw people because he has not had coffee enough to wake up. As the story goes on and he
starts to process what he feels about his deceased sister, as he finishes his coffee and processing his

The story is written in a thoroughly thought out way, it starts out in medias res with the question
"Why do we say people–watching rather than watching people?" followed by a description of their
chairs. Due to the instant focus placed upon the chairs you can't help but to think that they have a
deeper meaning in the story. As the story unfolds the time where it takes place switches between
now and back when the main character's sister was alive. This helps us understand why he acts the
way he does, why he is so focused on stability and safety and why he does not like drawing people.

Binge–watching is a new way to watching a TV Show and is affecting how we watch TV Shows.

Today, people are trying to put reading as a form of binge–watching, but for books. In the past,
before TV became mainstream, people used to read books to past time, but as TV become more
mainstream, reading has become less appealing or "uncool". Now people are trying to put

created, you can pick up a book for a single story and when people read it is to be educated, create

A Stranger is Watching is a terrific book. I enjoyed reading this book very much. The non–stop
action kept me reading for hours.
One of the best features of the book is how it was written. The point of view changes every chapter.
For example Chapter 1 is written in the point of view of the infamous Foxy character. Chapter 2 is
written in the point if view of our protagonist, Steve; and so on .I also liked how the author built the
relationship of the characters up, so you care about what happens to them and feel like you're going

In my opinion the best part of "A Stranger is Watching"is the end, chapter 52.this
chapter contains one of the greatest climaxes I ever read. The chapter begins at a frantic moment.
All of the characters lives are at risk because Foxy's bomb is about to go off. After a fight with Foxy,
Steve manages to release Sharon and Neil. At the same time Ronald Thompson(a juvenile convicted
if murder)is about to be executed for the murder of Steve's wife, Nina. A few chapters earlier we
find out that Nina is Foxy's victim but he got off clean with it. Steve races out of Grand Central
Station (where the bomb is going to go off)with Sharon and Neil. At this point the author stops her
narrative and begins with the time eleven forty–two, twelve minutes after the bomb goes off, at this
point we don't know what happened to our characters. In this next paragraph we are informed that
Steve, Neil ,and Sharon get away while Foxy dies from his own bomb. We also find out that Ronald
Thompson is saved from his execution and released from prison.

April 10, 2013 I seated myself in a booth with my back faced to the wall. It was here that I had an
ominous view of the Galleria food court. With pencil in hand, and notebook ready, I began taking

The girls would stay a fair distance, but keep their glances fixed on the table of boys, going out of
their way to gain their attention by laughing too loudly at a joke that wasn't funny, or busting a
move to their favorite song blaring from their iphones. None of the girls however were bold

walk toward them, but they never made direct contact with them. Families were less inclined to

The Dangers Of Binge Watching
Binge watching has started to become popular since Netflix put seasons of TV shows on its online
network. This has allowed people to binge watch a whole season in a day, week, or month on their
own time "This term gained traction most notably with the recent Netflix–only release of the fourth
Arrested Development season, as all fifteen episodes were released simultaneously rather than,
episodically" (Giuffre 2013). This bad habit is something that I have gone through; it can also be
harmful to people's health. However, you can break your bad habit of binge watching.
Binge watching TV shows is what I do best in both my free time and busy time. I would rather go to
my room and watch Netflix in my TV in bed, than talking to my family or hanging out with
friends. This has made my social life decrease, it has allowed me to become lazy, and it has even
affected my health. I realized I had an obsession to binge watching when I started ignoring my
family, due to wanting to watch my new favorite TV show. I would watch three episodes in one
sitting before getting up and doing something. Those three episodes started turning into more and
more episodes that I kept watching. I would spend many hours just lying in the complete dark
watching Netflix. I never noticed I had a problem, until all I wanted to do was watch TV. I started
noticing it on my own, when I stopped working out and became lazy.

People watch movies for all different reasons, for entertainment, relaxation, humor, and even

because our privacy is being violated, having privacy is one of our basic human rights. When we

When social media sites first started the users had lots of control over what others could see and
how published information would be distributed, however as time and user numbers have
increased companies found it profitable to sell certain information and demographics to paying
companies. These companies are the ones paying to keep social media sites up and running.
Someone must financially support the growing social media companies and since it is free to
users, marketing companies are paying for our history and surfing information. While that may
be the best solution for these social media companies it is not the best solution for users. There
should be an option to pay for use instead of being tracked and stalked. After all what is the price
of privacy? While not everyone would take advantage of this privacy 'buyout' the option should be
available. Even without that option, it should be the user's decision to either accept that data
tracking is happening, or have it turned off for the general profile. Before you enter a site that
tracks and sells browsing history there should be a warning label of sorts. As social media

I See You Watching Privacy throughout the ages has been something people have valued and
expected to have. Everyone has the right to their little own secrets and live life the constant
watching of others. As technology advances throughout each decade, the world has become more
and more accessible through a computer screen. Everyday activities have integrated with
technology, from shopping online to requesting transportation through a phone app. Although
technology makes everyday life convenient, it also leaves behind a digital footprint or data that
can be seen by others. People were unaware that, through this technology, their privacy was being
intruded upon by the government until Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA were secretly
conducting illegal spying on the American people. This revelation by Snowden opened the eyes
of the American public to the truth. In my eyes, Snowden's actions ultimately make him a hero,
someone who jeopardized his life and stood up to the law for what he believed was the right thing
to do. What is a hero? Many heroes have emerged throughout history, and are remembered by the
actions and sacrifice they have done for what is right. Martin Luther King Jr is remembered as a
hero for "playing a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African–American citizens in the
South and other areas of the nation, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the
