2. This webinar is NOT a deep dive into BOM or
database theory.
This is a “No Marketing” environment!
This webinar IS a thoughtful discussion about the
level of BOM detail required to build your product.

3. From Wikipedia:
A Bill of Materials (BOM) is a list of the raw materials,
sub-assemblies, intermediate assemblies, sub-components,
parts, and the quantities of each needed to manufacture a
finished product.

6. Next - Break it down into two BIG categories..
Design Data
Information about the part and usage
Part Number, Name, Material, Part/Assy
Structure, Quantity, Configuration
Typically imported from CAD as properties of the
models or simply keyed in as item information in
the BOM
Business Data
Information about how the part is purchased or
manufactured and sold
Cost, Vendor, Description, Lead Time, Supplier,
Supplier PN, Alternate PN, Bin location,
Machine Center, Commodity Type, Links to
Spec or supplier website,
Typically stored in a database as a master list
(an Item Master or Catalog) and referenced by
the BOM
