Political Science 12th Week Research Omar Mohamed Ahmed Presented to Dr : Nasser Hussein
Nations states & Governments Nation is a population with a certain sense of itself . A commonality of attitudes and ideals and often a common language. States: is a government structure usually sovereign and powerful enough to enforce its writ.
Nations states & Governments Many sciencetists argue that nations must have developed before states are rather artificial creation. They come and go and change from through the centuries. Nations are commonly said to have several defining characteristics, such as territory, population, independence and government.
Elements of Nationhood Territory : In General, every nation occupies a specific geographical area , its hard to have a nation without territory ,but what about people without territory who carry the idea of their nation around with them in their heads ex . Israel Population:Every nation has people within its borders , it should be a population with a sense of unity, of being a certain nationality, having a common language , common culture & sometimes common religion.
Elements of Nationhood Independence : the nation should be independent , meaning that it governs itself ,By electing its president and their representers from people they choose . such as Algeria under the french , become nations only when they get formal independence.
Crisis Of Nation Building Crisis of nation building : Some social sciencetists hold that the process of constructing nations .requires that countries go through the same Five stages in approximately the same sequence each opportunity for further growth represents a crisis in the life of the nation.
Crises of nation building The 5 stages :- Identity : The identity crisis is the first hurdle in building a nation , people who previously identified with a tribe, region or other sub national group must come to think of themselves first as citizen of that nations. Legitimacy : does not fall from heaven government must cultivate the respect and willing obedience of its citizens the widespread feeling among the people that the regime’s rule is rightful.
Crises of nation building Penetration : Penetration means that the nation must get substantially all the population to obey the governments writ. Participation: As people become more educated .they demand to have a say in their governance this feeling typically starts with the better off. Distribution : is never fully settled . it concerns the classic questions of who gets what? Once the citizens are participating in election they often want to change the distribution of the nation’s income in their favor
    Thank You
