Introduction
 Barriers are the OBSTACLES
  which gives rise to some
  problems in
  communication.
 An obstacle to

  communication is known as
  BARRIER.                     2
Communication Barriers
   Bad expressions.
   Inaccurate translations.
   Inattentiveness.
   Unclarified and vague assumptions.
   Distrust.
   Premature evaluation.
   Fear.

Communication Barriers
   Physical noise.
   Distance and time.
   Source.
   Distractions.
   Lack of common knowledge.
   Perpetual distortions and
   Semantics.

Bad Expressions
   Bad expression suffer from
    verbosity,inaccuracies,omissions and
    uncertainties.
   Repetitions and irrelevant matters
    irritate both receiver and sender.
   It leads to loss of valuable time.

Inaccurate Translations
   The information flows from all the
    directions.The necessary information
    has to be translated in a suitable
    form, before it is transmitted other
    wise it leads to inadequate and
    improper understanding at the other
    end.

Inattentiveness
   Inattention leads to inadequate
    absorption of message passed on by
    other.

   It leads to unnecessary discussion
    and wastage of time.

Un-clarified and vague
         assumptions
   The assistance manager to do the
    needful.
   For information and necessary
    actions.
   Instructions to all concerned.

Distrust
   If you trust the speaker then every
    thing that he says appears true. If
    you distrust the speaker, it appears
    untrue.
   Trust plays an important role as such
    distrust is another barrier to effective
    communication.

Premature Evaluation
   Even before the communication is
    complete, some people start reacting
    to it and frame their judgments and
    replies.
   This premature evaluation of any
    communication is harmful to the
    cause of the organization and also
    for sender and the receiver.

Fear
   Fear is yet another barrier to
    communication.

   The sub-ordinates have a fear of
    their superiors in every organization.

Physical Noise
   Any disturbance or interference that
    reduces the clarity and effectiveness
    of communication.

   Verbal communication is difficult in
    work places like foundry.

Distance And Time
   Distance and time also act as a
    barrier to smooth flow of
    communication.
   If the distance and time between
    the sender and the receiver is
    more, the communication is not
    clear and it may fail.

Distortions

   If the messages are not received
    properly due to distortions of the
    speaker, say his mannerism, or
    behaviour, the receiver cannot
    receive the message fully. Fear.

Lack Of Common
           Knowledge
   Common knowledge is essential to
    communicate. Many people use
    words    which    are    not    easily
    understandable,    intentionally    to
    impress others. If the meanings are
    not clear, proper communication is
    not possible.

Semantics
   Semantics is the study of words and
    signs.
   Most of the communication is carried
    through words ,whether spoken or
    written but the words are capable of
    communicating      a    variety    of
    meanings.

  • 5. Bad Expressions  Bad expression suffer from verbosity,inaccuracies,omissions and uncertainties.  Repetitions and irrelevant matters irritate both receiver and sender.  It leads to loss of valuable time. 5
  • 6. Inaccurate Translations  The information flows from all the directions.The necessary information has to be translated in a suitable form, before it is transmitted other wise it leads to inadequate and improper understanding at the other end. 6
  • 7. Inattentiveness  Inattention leads to inadequate absorption of message passed on by other.  It leads to unnecessary discussion and wastage of time. 7

  • 12. Physical Noise  Any disturbance or interference that reduces the clarity and effectiveness of communication.  Verbal communication is difficult in work places like foundry. 12
  • 13. Distance And Time  Distance and time also act as a barrier to smooth flow of communication.  If the distance and time between the sender and the receiver is more, the communication is not clear and it may fail. 13
  • 14. Distortions  If the messages are not received properly due to distortions of the speaker, say his mannerism, or behaviour, the receiver cannot receive the message fully. Fear. 14
  • 15. Lack Of Common Knowledge  Common knowledge is essential to communicate. Many people use words which are not easily understandable, intentionally to impress others. If the meanings are not clear, proper communication is not possible. 15
  • 16. Semantics  Semantics is the study of words and signs.  Most of the communication is carried through words ,whether spoken or written but the words are capable of communicating a variety of meanings. 16
