Introduction
4

 A city is said to be “smart” when it identifies the

important trends and suggesting what all things are to be
implemented in new days.
 Identifying the trends from various fields such as
e – government, information science, urban studies and
public administration and discuss the challenges, success
factors and impacts of government-driven initiatives that
makes a city smart.
Smart city
5

 A Smart City is a developed

urban area that creates
sustainable
economic
development and high
quality of life by excelling
in 6 key areas that can be
done through strong ICT
infrastructure.
Objectives of a smart city
6

 Significantly reducing emissions (CO2, greenhouse gases,…)







Long-term objective: a zero carbon city, zero emission buildings as standard
Significantly reducing energy consumption. Long-term objective: reaching
close-to-zero energy standards in new and existing buildings.
Significantly increasing the use of renewable sources of energy (e.g. in public
buildings)
Raising awareness in the wider public about responsible use of resources
(energy, water)
Promoting multi-modal transport systems by improving the public transport
network, enhancing networking between individual transport carriers, and
significantly reducing individual motorized transport
Characteristics of smart cities
7

 It should reach a stage of developed infrastructure

 It should have a strategy for creating a competitive

environment
 It should have an approach to inclusive and sustainable
cities

Smart city concepts in India
11

 Establishing two smart cities in each Indian states is the

goal of the wide-ranging project introduced by the Indian
government to inject smart technology into cities home to
between 500,000 and one million people an ambition that
goes hand in hand with seven other smart-city projects
already underway.
 Urbanization is rampant in India, where an average of 30
people move from rural areas to the city every minute.
The country is set to build 500 new cities over the next 20
years to house 700 million more city dwellers by
2050, according to a study by consulting firm Booz &
Company.
12

 Just 30 minutes from New Delhi, India is building the

"Wave City" project on 18 square kilometers of land in
Ghaziabad, where all services will be managed by smart
systems, even the rail line.
 Another initiative making headlines in India is the
country's private city project, "Lavasa”.
 Efforts are also made to make the Gujarat city Dholera as
smart a city as Shanghai by the year 2020.
Turning Lavasa into a smart city
13

 Lavasa is awarded apparently as the first e-city of India.
 With Cisco and Wipro collaborating, efforts are being

made to convert Lavasa into a smart city at world’s stage
 Considering other international cities which are smart
enough, and taking inputs from these cities, efforts could
be made for a transition.
Smart Lavasa
14

 Wipro will provide its expertise in

areas like city management
services,
e-governance,
ICT
infrastructure.
 Wipro will also design the detailed
infrastructure for telecom services
for governance, as well as
solutions for the residents of
Lavasa City and their visitors.
 Wipro will provide telecom-based
services that will facilitate smart
homes and buildings, including
integrated building management
systems,
physical
security
requirements and other on-demand
services.
Urban efficiency across the world

Conclusion
16

 Smart cities is thus becoming the most important part of

any government
 Each and every country though small or large is putting
efforts to make its cities smart
 With all the smart acts of some of the most developed
cities of the world, any section should be looked upon and
efforts should be made to implement these things.
 With more and more smart sectors coming up, life
becomes very easy for cities that implement them.
