KOKILA DHIRUBHAI
AMBANI
1. She was born on 24th February,1934.
2.She hailed from a middle class family
and spent her childhood in Jamnagar.
3. Her father Ratilal Patel was the head at
the post office
4. While her mother was a house maker
.
1. She got married to Dhirubhai
Ambani in 1955
2.Soon after marriage they flew to
Aden.
The name Kokilaben Dhirubhai
Ambani conjures up images of a
strong-willed, determined woman
who steadfastly stood behind her
husband in all his endeavours and
is believed to have played a major
role in his success.
Behind every successful man, so goes
the saying, there is usually a woman. In
the life of the legendary Dhirubhai
Ambani, that woman was his wife,
Kokilaben. She was his fount of
inspiration and support in a life that
began in extremely trying and modest
circumstances but blossomed into the
greatest ever success story in the
annals of Indian industry.
Supporting Husband
 Encouraged kokila to speak English
 Seemed to be a great foodie
 Always treated her with pride and dignity
 Wanted her to be knowledged about everything.
Following a Stroke in 1986, Ambani
handed over control of Reliance to his
sons Mukesh and Anil.
Dhirubhai Ambani died after a Major
Brain Stroke on July 6, 2002 at Breach
Candy Hospital.[3]
1.November 2004: The private rift
between the brothers becomes
public.
She made a brief declaration that would
turn out be more than a ceasefire on the war
of the brothers. It was the inaugural words
of the partition of an empire. She then
placed the peace treaty at the feet of the
deity, and prayed for her sons who had long
ago lost faith in each other.
After Dhirubhai's funeral, it was
not a happy family, certainly not
happy business. Even though there
was no clear division of ownership,
Mukesh got the Rs.73,164 crore
flagship company with a market
capitalisation of Rs.83,863 crore.
.
Kokilaben couldn't afford to be a passive
witness to the disintegration of the House that
Dhirubhai built.
On December 28, 2004, Dhirubhai's birthday,
Kokilaben did some hard talk. She said:-
Reliance, the brand, shall not be split; You shall
not walk away with cash; You shall not compete
with each other; You shall not allow outsiders
to interfere
The mother with an iron fist was born. So she came out with a
partition formula: 30 per cent each to Mukesh, Anil and herself;
and 5 per cent to each daughter. It was too smart a plan to please
the sons, for mother and daughters together would remain the
single largest shareholders in the companies managed by Mukesh
and Anil.
She then sought the services of two professionals, JM Morgan
Stanley’s Chairman Nimish Kampani and ICICI Chairman K.V.
Kamath, the trusted banker of Dhirubhai and a family friend. In
January, she asked Kampani to give her an evaluation of the entire
group
On the morning of June 18,
Kokilaben announced the
bittersweet news of an Empire
Divided, it was Mother's Day in the
hoary history of the Ambani’s.
2. June 2005: Their mother, Kokilaben,
intervenes and splits Reliance Group into 2
The Reliance empire was split
between the Ambani brothers.
Mukesh Ambani getting RIL and
IPCL(Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited & his younger
sibling Anil Ambani heading Reliance
Capital, Reliance Energy and Reliance
Infocomm. The entity headed by
Mukesh Ambani is referred to as the
Reliance Industries Limited
whereas Anil's Group has been
renamed Anil Dhirubhai Ambani
