2. MUNICH
Munich is the capital and the largest city
of the German state of Bavaria. It is
located on the River Isar north of the
Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest
city in Germany, behind Berlin and
Hamburg. About 1.42 million people live
within the city limits. Munich was the
host city of the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Munich lies on the elevated plains of
Upper Bavaria, about 50 km (31.07 mi)
north of the northern edge of the Alps, at
an altitude of about 520 m (1,706.04 ft)
ASL. The local rivers are the Isar and the
Würm. Munich is situated in the Northern
Alpine Foreland. The northern part of this
sandy plateau includes a highly fertile
flint area which is no longer affected by
the folding processes found in the Alps,
while the southern part is covered with
morainic hills. Between these are fields of
fluvio-glacial out-wash, such as around
Munich. Wherever these deposits get
thinner, the ground water can permeate
the gravel surface and flood the area,
leading to marshes as in the north of
Munich.
4. MONUMENTS:
The Cathedral of Munich, Frauenkirche
is also known as one of the largest
Lutheran churches in Europe and one
of the most important monuments of
the city. It reaches a height of 109
meters and 40 meters wide, all built in
red brick with a demure style without
the glitz of the typical Gothic
ornaments. The most characteristic
detail of the Cathedral are both
covered with bronze domes that
crown its twin towers of 99 meters
high, built in 1525.
5. MONUMENTS: (2)
The Neues Rathaus was built between
1867 and 1909 following the design of
architect Georg von Hauberrisser that
managed to create one of the most
important and representative
buildings of the German Gothic style.
Domina near Marienplatz with its
more than 9,000 m2 and a wonderful
façade of hundred meters long in
which the tower stands 85 meters
high. In the front we can distinguish a
set of reliefs depicting the history of
the country.

The English Garden in Munich is a
perfect place to enjoy nature without
leaving the city, with numerous trails,
a lake, river and breweries where grab
something to eat while admiring the
scenery. Many Münchners
approaching the park for sports,
especially running and cycling, but also

Others prefer to surf in one part of the
river that runs through the park, but

Neuschwanstein Castle is today one of

8. OKTOBERFEST:
The Beer Festival is one of the most
