Is open-ended, creative tools with wide application across the curriculum and for use by students and teachers. If non-freeware, a free trial or evaluation version should be available. ..though carefully checked, it’s not an endorsement from the Ministry – it is still the user’s responsibility to consider the safety , security , accuracy and reliability of a product and evaluate apporpriateness for the context of their learners. Social software listed can be configured to exclude advertisements , have restrict ed access, privacy policies - but you still need to check terms and conditions .
Helen: The place for NZ educators to collaborate on building knowledge and understanding about effective teaching using software for learning. A catalyst for reflection, discussion in schools , PD opportunities facilitated by Fiona Grant and Rochelle Jensen. They have developed e-Stories to present teachers experiences and strategies Aim t o extend understanding of e-learning and pedagogy in the New Zealand Curriculum Each e-story includes teacher reflection and examples of student learning to explore and to help ground dialogue Cover range of leaning areas and levels. You can expect to see need identified, strategies developed, challenges faced, software selected and why, outline of learning activity, and impact on students. It’s about teacher learning in the context of supporting student learning. Videos created for the e-Stories can also be viewed from the Teacher and Student Voice page. Languages , eg- Sample of teacher voice- student, learning, and where possible student learning. The estories model use of software as they provide a framework for exploring one teachers experience. Suggested software must be an open-ended, creative tool with wide application across the curriculum and for use by students and teachers. Good to have supporting examples. Must be safe for all and legal (ie caution re copyright and intellectual property etc). We can use the SWOT model to quickly evaluate software. See handout for SWOT analysis of Animoto. Add any points that you might have been overlooked. The reverse side has a blank form so you can quickly look at software that interests you on S4L.
