The death rate declines while the birth rate remains high.

The decline in the death rate in Europe began in the late 18th.C
Many LEDCs entered stage 2 in the second half of the 20th C.
7. LATE EXPANDING STAGE
The gap between birth and death rates narrows due to the decline in birth
rates.
Total population is still rising, but the growth begins to slow down
8. LOW STATIONARY STAGE
The death rate and birth rate remain low.
Slow population growth
The birth rate fluctuates due to changes in the economy.
Most MEDCs are now at this stage

10. DECLINING STAGE
The death rate remains low or increases a little (ageing population).
The birth rate keeps decreasing.
