Socrates developed the Socratic method of questioning beliefs and exposing contradictions. This method involves asking probing questions to guide students to the underlying truth. It is based on using reasoning and logic to critically examine one's own beliefs. On one occasion, Socrates explained his "triple filter test" to someone who wanted to share gossip about a friend. The triple filter test requires that what is said must pass three filters: it must be truthful, good, and useful. If it fails any of these three tests, it should not be said. This illustrates Socrates' high standards for knowledge and the importance he placed on rational thinking and truth.

3. THE BIG THREE OF GREEK
PHILOSOPHY: SOCRATES, PLATO,
AND ARISTOTLE.
• Socrates largest contribution to Management philosophy is
the Socratic method.
• The Socratic method is defined as a form of inquiry and
discussion between individuals, based on asking and
answering questions to illuminate ideas.
• This method is performed by asking question after question
with the purpose of seeking to expose contradictions in
one’s thoughts, guiding him/her to arrive at a solid, tenable
conclusion.
• The principle underlying the Socratic Method is that humans
learn through the use of reasoning and logic; ultimately
finding holes in their own theories and then patching them
up.
• Aristotle was the student of Plato, Plato was the student of Socrates

9. In ancient Greece, Socrates was
reputed to hold knowledge in
high esteem.
One day an acquaintance
(colleague) met the great
philosopher and said,
"Do you know what I just heard
about your friend?”
10. "Hold on a minute, before telling me
anything I'd like you to pass a little test.
It's called the Triple Filter Test.“
Socrates replied.
"Triple filter? What’s that? “ asked the
visitor.
“I have set of three filters, I shall take in
your views only if passes thru these
filters..” Explained Socrates.
11. 1. The first filter is of Truthfulness.
“Have you made absolutely sure that
what you are about to tell me is true?"
Socrates applied the first filter.
"No.. actually I just heard about it
and...“ The man said. He was feeling
he got caught on the wrong foot….
12. 2. The second filter is of Goodness.
Is what you are about to tell me
about my friend something good?"
Socrates applied the second filter…
"No, on the contrary...“
The man was getting nervous…
13. 3. The third filter is of Usefulness.
You may still pass the test though,
because there's one filter left.
“Is what you want to tell me about my
friend going to be useful ?"
Socrates applied the final filter…
"No, not really“
The man replied after thinking for a while
and he was almost apologetic…
14. "Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you
want to tell me is neither true nor good
nor even useful, why tell it to me at
all?"
The visitor not only learned the lesson of
His life, but also became a better human
being…
This is why Socrates was a great
philosopher & is still held in such high
esteem.
15. Applying right knowledge is
generating right experience…
Can we mentally filter what we are
going to talk thru these three filters?
Can we prevent getting caught in
gossips and end up spoiling
relationships by actually applying
these three filters when any loose
talker gossips ?
16. Filter of TRUTHFULNESS
Talk only what gets passed thru these three filters.
Listen only what gets passed thru these three filters.
TRIPLE FILTER TESTOF SOCRATES
Can we ACTUALLY USE these filters and move
From being knowledgeable to becoming wise ?
Filter of USEFULNESS
Filter of GOODNESS
