Myanswer to question 7 of my media coursework

1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

2.  One thing I have learnt is that the
title of the magazine needs to stand
out.
 The title on my preliminary magazine
although is a different colour, it
blends into the magazine.
 For my music magazine I ensued that
my title stood out, I did this by having
a faint shadow behind it and also by
having it a bold red against a pale
plain background.

3.  Another thing I learnt is that
the front cover needs to be
busy and full.
 My preliminary magazine
was bare and the text
blended in with the
background. Whereas my
final product has more
going on with the main
feature spreading across
the page and other features
around the model.

4.  Something else that I learnt was that when taking
my photos I need to direct my model and also take
more than one image.
 In my preliminary task I only took one image of
someone and didn’t get them to pose for me. This
resulted in a picture that doesn’t look professional
or that should be in a magazine.
 However for my product I did a photoshoot and
took over 100 photographs and directed my model
to how I wanted her to pose. The image on the
cccc lower left shows my model on the double
ddd page spread. The way she is posed relates
ddd back to the article.

5.  I also learnt about the importance of organisation and time
management. For my preliminary task I didn’t have a model
organised so had to improvise with anyone I could find, this left me
less able to produce a professional looking product. However I
organised for someone to be my model and booked the studio for a
time that would still give me enough time to produce a product at a
high standard. I was also able to choose what my model would
wear, this ensured that the costume would reflect the same brand
as my magazine, and also be more appealing to my target
audience.

6.  Another thing I have learnt is to adapt my product for my target audience.
I did a survey after my first draft of my product and asked what they liked
about my product and what they didn’t. Above are screenshots of some of
the comments about my product. I used these to improve the magazine so
that it would suit my audience better.
