1. ROMANIASCHOOL 26 BUCHARESTOPEN DAY CELEBRATIONCOMENIUS PROJECT“Overcoming xenophobia through a deeper understanding of the European cultures”
2. PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT Since prejudice comes from not knowing, it is very important for all the people to have a broader vision of life and cultures. Prejudice can be in an individual for his or her own culture too. Young people aren't aware of the various cultural opportunities in their living area very often. They are also not open to European realities all result in xenophobia and prejudice. In this project we want to create a more tolerant and open minded attitude inside and outside our schools towards one's own culture and the others'. We want to foster children's creativity by helping them to write a new 'peace' book in which they will combine peaceful sayings related to their cultures and add their own. Each partner will introduce figures in their own culture who wrote with a peace loving sprit, and brotherhood. In Turkish Culture there is such a figure ‘YunusEmre’ whose ideals are still supremely relevant in today's world convulsing with conflict and war and inspired UNESCO to declare 1991 as ‘ International YunusEmre Year’ (1241-1320). He says Come, let us all be friends for once, Let us make life easy on us, Let us be lovers and loved ones, The earth shall be left to no one.
