Spanish stem-changing verbs

1. Stem-changing and Spell-change verbs
 Four types of stem-changing verbs
 Changes in the present tense only happen in
the singular and the third-person plural
e -> ie
e -> i
o -> ue
u -> ue
Examples:
Despertarse – to wake up
me despierto nos despertamos
te despiertas os despertáis
se despierta se despiertan
Vestirse – to get dressed
me visto nos vestimos
te vistes os vestís
se viste se visten
Acostarse – to go to bed
me acuesto nos acostamos
te acuestas os acostáis
se acuesta se acuestan

2. Jugar – to play (a sport or game)
juego jugamos
juegas jugáis
juega juegan
Verbs with Spelling changes
Oler = to smell
*In the present tense, o -> hue
(El perfume huele bien)
Reir & Sonreír = to laugh and smile
*have an accent on the í in all forms
(¿Porqué sonríes?)
Seguir = to follow, continue
*gu -> g before o and a
(Sigo las prescripciones del médico)
