2. INTRODUCTION
Using technology in the classroom is a great way to
present a lesson to students and keep them
engaged. To do this we must make sure that our
lesson meets standards and the technology we use
enhances our students learning and
comprehension of the material we are covering. I
will present three scenarios in which the use of
technology will help in this.
3. Scenario #1
Presentation of a lesson to a class
When presenting a lesson to a class you can use some
different types of technology.
1. Promethean Board- Can connect your computer to it and
present your lesson in a visual way to your students.
This helps students connect what is being said with a
visual presentation of it. Helps ELL students get a better
idea of what is being presented in class.
2. Power Point- Helps with presenting the information in a
more concise form. The teacher can highlight what
information and vocabulary is important. This supports
ELL students with learning the important vocabulary and
information needed for the class.
3. Videos- Can enhance the lesson for the students in the
class. It helps give a different perspective for the
students on the material being covered. This can help
ELL students make more of a connection with the
material by getting a visual aid of the subject being
covered.
4. Scenario#1 Continued
Feed Back of Student Development
1. Informal Assessments- Observations, quizzes,
tests, discussions, etc...
2. Formal Assessments- Standardized test
5. Scenario #2
Help give more support to ELL students who seem to
be struggling with content and vocabulary.
Teachers can have these students use Kurzweil 3000-
firefly.
This tool provides the student with the content that is
being covered in class and gives them more practice in
reading and can go over key vocabulary. This program
has the capability for the teacher to embed questions
for the student to answer so the teacher can monitor
progress and comprehension of the material. Also the
student can read and listen to the text so they can get a
better understanding and more fluent in learning the
language and improve their comprehension. This
program can be used over the computer and students
can access it at any time.
6. Scenario #2 continued
Feed back on student development
Informal assessment- Teacher can have questions
with in the material they are reading to measure
comprehension pf the material. Quizzes, tests, and
class discussions can also help with this.
7. Scenario #3
Having students do a paper on a subject that they have
covered in class.
This kind of assignment will give ELL students an
opportunity to practice their writing skills and also show their
comprehension of the material that was covered in class.
There are some web sites that can help them with this.
1. Kurzweil 3000-firefly- If they have used this in class
before the material will be their for them to draw from to
write their paper. It gives support for vocabulary and
highlighting important ideas of the material.
2. Vocabulix-http://www.vocabulix.com/ This web site can
help students develop a stronger vocabulary through
drills and activities. It also has a verb conjugator chart
that can assist with verb usage.
3. Google Translator- This tool can help the student
translate from one language to another. Can be helpful
for a student to build a vocabulary and assist in writing.
8. Scenario #3 continued
Feed back on student development.
With this assignment you can see if they have
covered the subject thoroughly and can see in they
were able to understand the content. Also you can
compare their writing skills to previous assignments
and see where they have improved and where they
need help.

To see how the use of this technology helped your students you can use these different assessments to see how they have absorbed the content of the lesson. Using quizzes, observations, and tests can give immediate feed back to see if the lesson was effective. Formal Assessments will show if the students are gaining the knowledge they need to meet the state standards.
