3. Goal : To receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and
kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your
Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall
renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the
light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the
faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may
be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations,
through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

 The Holy Spirit will guide us as we experience
the faith and will never lead us astray.

happiness, humans need the guidance of their
heavenly Father to perfect the virtues
necessary for eternal happiness
 The Father guides humans with the new law
which is the grace of the Holy Spirit given to
the faithful through Christ.

 Matthew 5:1-7:29 (Sermon on the Mount)
 The New Law was contrary to what society lived at
the time when Jesus gave the Sermon on the
Mount, it is contrary to how society lives now as
well.

 Jesus describes the qualities of the inhabitants of the
Kingdom of Heaven
 Indicates how each is or will be blessed.

 “You have heard that is was said, “An eye for an
eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ but I say to you, Do not
resist one who is evil. But if anyone strikes you on
the right cheek, turn to him the other also”

guidance in our lives

these to us so we can do things far above what we
are able to do on our own
 The gifts help perfect the Theological Virtues of
Faith, Hope and Charity


 Wisdom
 the ability to look at life from all perspectives, to
see and understand the whole picture of a situation
 Someone who has the gift of wisdom can see how
everything is part of God’s love and his plan
 Knowledge
 The ability to find important information and facts
and look at them objectively and intelligently
 Understanding
 The ability to see from another person’s heart, to
feel the feelings of others and to put these before
our own

 Counsel
 The gift in which a person is open to others’
insights about a problem and skilled at working with
the people to solve that problem
 Fortitude (often also referred to as Courage)
 The ability to follow our convictions and conscience
no matter what the cost
 Courage gives us the strength to do what is right in
spite of obstacles or difficulties

 Piety
 Honoring God and His people because you
understand the blessings He has given you and
know that you cannot repay these gifts
 Fear of the Lord (often also referred to as

 The ability to be amazed by the things in life, to be
awake to the realization that we are always in
God’s presence
 The “Fear” is a fear of ever being separated from
God’s perfect love.

God’s grace and
using the gifts that
He has given us,
we are able to see
the fruits of the
Holy Spirit come
out in our lives and
the lives of others

 There are many fruits of the Holy Spirit. The
tradition of the Church lists twelve of them:
“charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness,
modesty, self-control, chastity.”
 When we are experiencing these fruits in our
lives, we begin to understand more fully the gift
of the Holy Spirit.

 The Holy Spirit is overflow of the love between
God the Father and Jesus His son. We
participate in this by following Christ and
becoming His hands and feet.
 A commitment to this relationship is key. A
good recommended list of practices and
disciplines in the faith might begin with:
 Commitment to work towards 30 minutes of silent
prayer each day.
 Regular confession (once a month is common)
 Attending Sunday Mass and daily when possible.
