Medilink provides mainly critical services such as emergency response, medical evacuation, mobile clinics to remote locations, leasing of 4WD ambulances and medical equipment, supply of medical consumables and drugs, medical staffing and topside support.   8. 8. NATIONAL HOSPITAL INSURANCE FUND National Hospital Insurance Fund is a State Parastatal that was established in 1966 as a department under the Ministry of Health. The original Act of Parliament that set up this Fund in 1966 has over the years been reviewed to accommodate the changing healthcare needs of the Kenyan population, employment and restructuring in the health sector. The transformation of NHIF from a department of the Ministry of Health to a state of corporation was aimed at improving effectiveness and efficiency. The Fund's core mandate is to provide medical insurance cover to all its members and their declared dependants (spouse and children). The NHIF membership is open to all Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 years and years and have a monthly income of more than Ksh 1000. NHIF has 31 fully autonomous branches across the country. Each of these branches offers all NHIF services including payment of benefits to hospitals or members or employers. DETAILS • It is contributed to the ‘health wallet’ which is a medical savings account. • It covers not just the regular hospital expenses but also pharmacist, optician, doctor consulting fees, etc. • Unused amount is refunded back5600 • It is contributed towards the NHIF • NHIF is optional for informal sector • Jawabu aims at providing the benefits of the NHIF to the informal sector as well.1920 • It is paid to XPLICO. • Out of this, 2200 is used for in-patient wherein XPLICO will cover surgery upto 15000. • Also, it will cover upto 50000 in case of death and funeral costs • Remaining 400 will cover upto 3500 for out-patients.2600 • 60% goes towards marketing activities • 40% goes towards administration expenses like managing the project, stakeholders, etc.1400 13Proprietary and Confidential4/17/2014
