1. Mira Ramesh Spoken Language Analysis
In origins of gender dichotomy of various adjectives and phrases is debated. Some, such as myself,
believe that gendered expressions derive their meanings from the intentions of the speaker. Others,
such as Mira Ramesh, believe that the interpretation of the listener is key in developing the gendered
meanings of these phrases. While Ramesh makes some good points, many of her statements are
one–sided and left unexplained or unanalyzed.
One of the first points Ramesh makes is that gendered phrases derive their meanings due to the
cultural background of the listener. I don't oppose this idea, however, Ramesh neglects to mention
how the cultural background of the speaker can also affect the gendered meanings of words. For
example, when Ramesh discusses the desirability of lighter colored skin in Indian culture, she only
talks about how the listener's cultural background drives him to interpret the phrase in a particular
way. She doesn't even acknowledge that the speaker's cultural background could also play a role in

Each speaker choses her own words, and while performing or describing genders, each speaker will
choose words that exemplify the gender he is describing. The adjectives the speaker uses will
depend on his cultural experiences. Ramesh's examples of the German view of bridges versus the
Spanish view of bridges support this statement. According to Ramesh, in German, adjectives like
beautiful and elegant are considered feminine adjectives. Therefore, if the intentions of a German
speaker were to describe a woman, he would probably use adjectives like these. By themselves,
these adjectives could describe any number of things. However, the cultural experiences of the
speaker would drive him to use these words to describe femininity, by assigning genders to

INTRODUCTION
As a fairly young girl, in my early twenties, I read Proverbs 31. Not that that was the first time I
was reading it. It just happened that this time, it so captivated and impressed me that I found
myself praying it back to God on an almost daily basis after that. I desperately desired to be like this
woman of noble character candidly described in Proverbs 31. Could it be that having just come
out of that age and season of teenage and adolescence I had increasingly become aware of my
femaleness and hence my womanhood? Could it be that I was unconsciously reaching out for an
anchor by which to measure my womanhood? Was it the inner realization that I was falling far too
short of God's will and expectation of me as a woman, at least from my point of view? What would

Let me say that having done this study a number of years now with young women, and having had to
check what God was also saying to me, I realized the need to put on paper the various aspects of
the godly woman that God had revealed to us from His Word in a way that the young woman on
campus or college, and the young single and married woman can identify with and work towards,
as I said earlier, in the spirited endeavor to align her life to what God is saying; a gesture that
honors the lord through obeying his word
Secondly, I must say I have been a beneficiary of the writings by godly women from the west.
Their books have been an immense blessing to me. I however began to realize that there didn't

A proverb that describes a basic rule of conduct may also be known as a maxim. If a proverb is
distinguished by particularly good phrasing, it may be known as an aphorism. The study of
proverbs is called: paremiology (from Greek ПЂО±ПЃОїО№ОјОЇО± – paroimГa, "proverb") and
can be dated back as far as Aristotle. Paremiography, on the other hand, is the collection of
proverbs. Subgenres include proverbial comparisons ("as busy as a bee"), proverbial interrogatives
("Does a chicken have lips?") and twin formulas ("give and take"). Typical stylistic features of
proverbs are: alliteration (Forgive and forget) parallelism (Nothing ventured, nothing gained) rhyme
(When the cat is away, the mice will play) ellipsis (Once bitten, twice shy)
Internal features that can be found quite frequently include: hyperbole (All is fair in love and war)
paradox (For there to be peace there must first be war) personification (Hunger is the best cook) To
make the respective statement more general most proverbs are based on a metaphor. Further typical
features of the proverb are its shortness (average: seven words), and the fact that its author is
generally unknown (otherwise it would be a quotation). We should also understand the difference
between a proverb and a saying. A proverb distinguishes from a saying by its instructive nature and
maturity. Whereas a saying is usually not quite complete and has no conclusion.

the high CA members still choose to avoid communication, even though it was necessary and
compulsory in the workplace. For example, high apprehensive workers were fear of negative
evaluation (Winiecki and Ayres, 1999) and this emphasized that they refuse to gain information from
others, as they would avoid the dissonance and become consistent with their aversive behaviors.

That to me is one of the biggest commandments that God gave us. In chapter four it talks about the
poor. I think that most of the poor did not choose the way they live but they do need our help most
of all.
We can help the poor by not turning away from them but by helping them with what they need,
like giving them food or water, by giving them shelter and clothes, and by helping them turn to
God for help too because that way they can try and live the way God wants them to live. There
are also poor people who bring it onto themselves by maybe dropping out of school, quitting their
jobs, running away from their homes, and by taking big risks. But they too need help and we can

I know that if we help people who need help then God will in return will let us be with him in

The book that I studied was the Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is part of the Books of
Wisdom in the Old Testament of The Bible. The books in the wisdom section of The Bible
(includes the book of Job, Psalms, Proverbs,Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Book of Wisdom and
Sirach) are meant to try and spread wisdom to the reader and show the right way, or better ways to
live your life in faith. The book of Proverbs is made up of guides on how to live a faithful life, and
how to deal with different situations that you may come across in your life.
Proverbs is a collection of instructions and sayings composed into a book (usccb.org, 2016). The
Book of Proverbs is made up of both long and short guides to life that have to deal with certain
situations. These passages can range from a length of seven verses to thirteen chapters. The
situations that are written about are very common in today's society. These situations that are
written about in Proverbs range from laziness to laughter. Proverbs includes two types of writings:
long instructions that are addressed to younger people and shorter sayings that are meant for all

wife. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience
physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he

In her belief, which mostly stems on how she was raised through the followings of the Hebrew Bible,
she expresses that she does not believe Jesus to be the son of God, nor was he birthed by a virgin
mother, but most importantly he is not the Messiah in which she read about through the scripture.
This does not mean that she does not acknowledge his existence but that she cannot fathom his
presence on earth as the chosen Messiah. She then mentioned that she felt bothered by the common
misconception that the Jews debunk the theory of Jesus being the Messiah due to the fact that he
was poor man. "How can a lowly carpenter truly be the son of God and our savior?" This is the type
of question in which she believes that people from the Christian faith think the Jews ask themselves.
She stated that in her own personal beliefs, and that she does not speak for other Jews, her Messiah
could be the poorest man on earth and it would not bother her. To her, there are many inconsistencies
within the Bible and from what she has been taught, that allow her to question and doubt Jesus
Christs legacy. She finally discussed that within her community, they still await for God's chosen
Messiah to arrive and until then, she will maintain a strong connection with her faith but also
embrace others with theirs.
