Art Comparison
Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that is; it has the
capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are
particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and 'temperature'. For example; El
Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject
matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O'Keeffe's
desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a 'warm' and appealing landscape.
Of course, these are not the only artist to make master works of tonality. Here are five artists (which
you may recognize) who have harnesed the power...show more content...
Both Velazquez's 'Old Woman' and Rembrandt's 'Prodigal Son' are bathed in (or painted in) golden
yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a
little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the
very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost
indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they
are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however,
chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark
void of mystery.
Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage
of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His
expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin
has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the
troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue).
That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art–lover. It is a wonderful story

Cultural Comparison Paper
Cultural Comparison Paper There are many cultural differences between the United States and
France. Some of these are simply social and others are cultural. Hofstede's Value Dimensions can be
used to highlight the differences between the cultures. Individualism vs collectivism, uncertainty
avoidance, masculinity/femininity, power distance, and long–term vs short–term orientation are all
characteristics that differ between France and the United States. In Communications Between
Cultures individualism and collectivism are described by researchers as "self–orientation versus
collective orientation as one of the basic pattern variables that determine human action." These
differences can be found in family life, school, and workplace...show more content...
The cultures prefer as few rules as possible. Typically, people in these cultures don't easily express
their emotions. Hofstede uses the words masculinity and femininity to refer to the degree to which
masculine or feminine traits are valued or revealed (Samovar, Porter and McDaniel). The United
States rates as a moderately masculine. Countries that favor masculinity stress equity, competition,
and performance(Yates). They also strive for material success and expected to respect whatever is
big, strong, and fast. France values femininity and stress equality, solidarity, and quality of work life
(Yates). A feminine worldview maintains that men can assume nurturing roles while promoting
sexual equality. One major difference in masculine/feminine cultures is the role of the woman in the
workplace and at home. Feminine societies expect women to work and often provide the necessary
social support systems. Although the United States is more masculine than France both countries
treat females as equals. Power distance describes the distance between power and the members of a
particular culture. France has a higher power distance than the United States. Gudykunst describes
countries with a high power distance as, "Individuals who accept power as part of society. As such
superiors consider their subordinates to be different from themselves and vice

World History Comparison Essay

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most well known and most influential religions in
the world today. There are many similarities among these religions. All three religions originated in
the Middle East tracing their history back to Abraham. Each of these religions believes that there is
only one god therefore they are all considered to be a monotheistic religion. Another important
similarity is the belief that their god created everything and that it is possible to have an individual
and personal relationship with him. ("Christianity and Islam and Judaism: Comparison Chart")

we do. The Jewish relationship with God is a covenant relationship. They strive to bring holiness
into every aspect of their lives. The Jewish religion has over 14 million followers ("Christianity and
Islam and Judaism: Comparison Chart"). Christians believe that God created all that is seen and
unseen. He is the creator of all people, the world, and the universe. Christians believe that Jesus is
the Son of God and was sent here for our salvation. Christians believe that people are "saved" and
forgiven of their sins if they confess their sins and confess their belief in the resurrection of Jesus.
This process allows Christians to gain a personal relationship with God. Greater than 2.2 billion
supporters of the Christian religion exist today ("Christianity"). Islam is the most clear. They clearly
state that God alone is the Almighty, the Creator, the sovereign, and the Sustainer of everything in
the universe. He created everything. He has no equal. There are approximately 1.5 billion Islamic

Comparison Essay: College Writing Vs. High School
After reading those two articles, I think college writing is totally different from high school
writing; we need to put much more effort on developing our research, thinking and writing skills.
In college writing, we will use tools like academic writing situation to help us in creating papers.
And we must be responsible for all assignments and works in order to be successful. It is not
difficult to write, but writing with professional vocabulary and correct format with our own fresh
thoughts is challenging. As Strong said, "Writing is thinking.", there is no perfect first draft, as long
as we rewrite with consistent thinking, we will be a qualified college writer.

Many people seems to like when someone else are interested in the same thing they are into, they
are comparing the similarities the other person has to themselves. In my research I had learn the
different ways people view their similarities to one another and what men and women view
similarities to each other. The researchers that had wrote journals and had profession over
similarities are Pieternel Dijkstra (department of Psychology similarity of men and women), Lynne

Importance of similarity in Empathic) Interactions, Richard L. Moreland and Robert B. Zajonc

researchers that I had read was R. Matthew Montoya (who wrote a study journal over the social and
personal relationships), and the final journal written by Gina C. Gonzaga and Belinda Campos
(Similarity, Convergence, and Relationship Satisfaction in Dating and Married Couples.)
In the research from Pieternel Dijkstra he had a looked into "similarity–attraction hypothesis" which
is when an individual feels attracted to another potential partner who, in important domains, are
similar as themselves. Almost the same people are assumed to be attractive because they validate
their beliefs about the world and ourselves and reduce the risk of conflicts. Dijkstra had done
numerous studies that require to examine closely to the truth that

Cleaning with Barry and Britt
The act of being habitually and carefully neat and clean can make for an interesting topic in a
comparison and contrast essay. Dave Barry compares the differences of how women and men clean
in his compare and contrast essay, Batting Clean– Up and Striking out. In Suzanne Britt's compare
and contrast essay, Neat People vs. Sloppy People she compares the differences of personalities
between Sloppy people and neat people. Both essays compare cleanliness in one way or another
however they both have differences regarding their use of humor, examples, and points made in their
thesis.

The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting
Clean–Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain his
opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a
volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning,
did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men
are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a dinner
party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were still
chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity. On
the other hand, in Britt's Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to
explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are "viscous with their mail"
she explains, " All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and
money–saving coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental
salvaging of birthday cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes" (256).
As seen in this example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her
points, but do these incidences

A Comparison of Poetry Essay
A Comparison of Poetry In this essay two poems will be juxtaposed. One of the poems is called
"My parents kept me from children who were rough". This poem was written by Stephen Spender.
Stephen Spender was greatly admired for his work and was knighted in 1983. He lived in the
20th century and died 22 years after W H Auden in 1995 .The second poem chosen is called
"Funeral Blues and was written by W H Auden. W H Auden was a greatly respected homosexual
poet who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1907 and died in 1973. W H Auden's full name
was Wystan Hugh Auden. He wrote Funeral Blues in 1936. In the poem "My parents kept me from

The rhythm in "Funeral Blues" is a very slow one which emphasises the sadness of the poet
whereas in the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" there is a medium pace
rhythm which accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow
pace. Both "My parents kept me from children who were rough" and "Funeral Blues" have four
lines in every verse but the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem "My parents
kept me from children who were rough" has only three verses whereas "Funeral Blues has four. In
the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" all three of the verses are set in the
past tense whereas in "Funeral Blues" three of the verses are talking about the present and only
one is talking about the past. The verse, which is referring to something in the past, is the one that
talks about the man who died. In the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough"
lines similar to "I feared more than tigers their muscles like iron" conjures up an image in one's
head of large and very muscular boys. An example of the boys abuse and images, which is stated in
the poem, is " And who threw world like stones and who wore torn clothes". This line shows us that
the boys would use bad language and would dress very badly. The imagery in "Funeral Blues" is one
of a heart broken man who is very sad and depressed

Sassoon and Owen's rhetorical style help connect the reader to the events being described and
communicate successfully their feelings of anguish about the war. Sassoon and Owen further
communicate their contempt for the war and its unforgiving treatment of the soldiers through the
use of alliteration. Sassoon says, "Paid, with a pile of peace–complacent stone" (line 7). The
sarcastic use of "Paid" suggests Sassoon does not believe the Menin Gate to be a worthwhile reward.
The personification of the monument when Sassoon says, "peace–complacent stone" (line 7) creates
the idea that the monument has an unjustified feeling of self–worth and importance and stands
arrogantly, believing itself to be a comparable reward to the loss of life and misery endured by
thousands of soldiers and families. The repetition of the letter "p" makes it sound as though
Sassoon is spitting his words out in a bitter and degrading manner and is effective in demonstrating
his anger about the perceived ignorance displayed by the memorial (Internet 10). Owen also
achieves an emphatic effect when he uses alliteration in "Anthem For Doomed Youth" when he says,
"Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle" (line 3). This harsh sounding repetition of the letter "r" is
used for the purpose of sound imagery to help convey the horrors of

Compare And Contrast Two Places
Compare & Contrast Essay
Imagine two places where you could choose with the outcome of receiving new life experiences.
You could choose two places that have different settings, where you could visit for vacation or
simply choose to live there depending on your decision. But which of these places would you
choose? It could be so difficult to decide. Each place have their own environment that has its pro's
and con's along with it. Many of you may be asking yourself "What places could the narrator be
talking about?" Pretty funny how I can relate to your thoughts, the two places we have come too, to

towns. North Carolina has a different surrounding as of Florida. North Carolina has a very
historical event where the actual Wright Brother's officially flew a plane, outside the outer banks
by popular beaches. North Carolina, has great college's too choose from for example you have
Duke University, North Carolina State University that provide excellent educational plans to
study for a major of your future careers. Here's the fact the minimum wage for North Carolina is
way less then Florida currently they're providing $7.25 while in Florida they provide $8.05. Sure
Eighty five cent's sounds small but it's a big difference. Along with economic differences. The
main differences between Florida & North Carolina is considered an always hot environment
while in north Carolina is different, mainly seasonal changes occur, Experiencing all of the

A Comparison of Two Media Texts Essay
A Comparison of Two Media Texts
I am going to compare two articles about medical testing on animals. One is a newspaper article
written by Polly Toynbee and is called 'Sorry, but I think dying people are more important than
dumb animals,' this was published in the Guardian. The other is a leaflet with the title 'It's a crying
shame' which is design for animal aid. The Guardian news article is for medical testing on animals.
The Animal Aid is against medical testing on animals. Both texts are aimed at the general public who
are old enough to have an educated opinion.
The newspaper article taken from the Guardian is very basic and is set out like a typical newspaper
article would be. The image used...show more content...
The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in
my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on
the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after
they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and
supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet
have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals
during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives
of the leaflet.
'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because
the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude
for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent
anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you
sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The
other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front.
The image from the Guardian article does not relate to medical testing on animals because images of

There are different types and forms of literature. They are novel, drama, poetry, biography,
non–fictional prose, essay, epic and short story. All these types of literature have some elements. To
complete a piece of literature, a writer, dramatist or a novelist must use certain elements like plot,
character, theme, etc. to capture the interest of their readers. When reading literature, there are
themes which are interpreted within the literary piece. Themes reflect innocence, experience, life,
death, reality, fate, madness, sanity, love, society, individual, etc. Such themes present a point of a
lesson learned or the particular meaning the...show more content...
After using the historical approach to analyze this story and researching the author herself I found an
underlying theme of freedom from social norms with the plot and the character portrayed
contributing to that theme.
A plot is a dynamic element in fiction, a sequence of interrelated, conflicting actions and events that
typically build to a climax and bring about a resolution. In this story the plot is by no means
climatic but it starts with a tragic death, which draws you in, I know morbid but true. Everyone is
afraid to tell the young woman about her husband's death because of her weak heart. They all fear
she will die from grief. But when she is told, she locks herself in her room after a crying fit, again,
everyone worried that she will make herself ill with grief.
But this is not what the young woman is doing. She is realizing something, struggling with
something. You have to keep reading because now you want to know...what is she doing? If you
understand the metaphors, similes and symbols you can figure it out before the epiphany happens,
but you have to read carefully. If you don't you begin to think her cruel, she's happy her husband is
dead? And the plot thickens until the words escape her mouth, "Free, free, free!" And there is the
epiphany, what we have been waiting for. She has struggled with social norms and her husband's
will bend because he was the man and

Short Story And Song Comparison Essay
The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest
Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of
motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will
convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces.
One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the
story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are
happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal
palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song
"Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to
all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either
making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life".
The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and
humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content...
If you overcome them, then basically, you become stronger. For instance, in "Stronger" Kelly
demonstrates a few examples of obstacles from life, that are relatable "Doesn't mean I'm over
cause you're gone" (line 16) and tells us that they are experiences in which we learn and get wiser
from. This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating
him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically, if the obstacles put you down, you've
basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown

things to advertise, such as clothes, shoes, cars, watches etc. Advertising promotes the latest goods
that are out in the shops. Advertising effects me everyday because every time I see a advertisement
it attracts me to the product and I think about buying it or saving up to buy it.

The Rover streetwise advert has pictures of daily life things such as coffee, donuts, a football,
children's Wellingtons boots and a shopping trolley with groceries inside the trolley. This
indicates that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used
by a family man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little
challenges" is related to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut
would represent the father who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley
would represent that the car is useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word
'Bump' which is saying that even if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I
like the way the advert creates an image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot
see a physical person (image) but the pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw
the picture of the Wellingtons, an image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert
tells stories of different family lives because each picture relates to many things in everyday life.
I wouldn't buy this car because it's Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality
cars. However the way this car is designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving
it. I appreciate this

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words

the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and

trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in
other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Comparing Email Vs. Traditional Letters
When compared on format, time and cost it is proven that emailing is more efficient than
traditional letters. In today's generation it is very rare for people to write traditional letters to each
other. This generation is becoming known for its quick and a technology based world. Emailing is
quick and simple and always at the tip of the fingers. Unlike emailing, traditional letters take time.
Emails are more commonly used than letters. This is because emails can be sent and received within
minutes. It is a much faster form of communication than a letter. In addition to the speed, an email
can be sent/received, emails can also be saved onto flash drives or directly on the computer.
Furthermore, with the new technology out today, many...show more content...
If someone is to write a more formal email you would start off by addressing the person by their
name and then get into the body of the email by replying to the purpose of the message. Most
emails are sent just for a quick reply.
Often times businesses use emails to communicate to other businesses, especially when dealing
with transactions. Having a record of when you talked to a person (email timestamps) is a
definitive way to make sure people hold up to their end of the deal. Businesses may also use emails
to share important documents with one another, you are able to attach a file and then you can share
any document you need to.
Communication through email is also able to cut down people's eco footprint. Using the internet to
share thoughts, documents, or have conversations cuts down the need for trees to be cut down.
When using an email, the only thing you need is the person's email address. Emails are not as

Writing Persuasive And Comparison Essay
Have you ever needed help persuading or comparing something? Then lost tools of writing will
help tremendously! This year ltw helped me with three main skills, it helped master writing
persuasive essays, comparison essays, and helped me become a better writer in general. Doing the
charts over and over again really burned in my brain the steps in how to write persuasive and
comparison essays. I have practically memorized the outline which will be very helpful in the
future. The papers I'm most proud of are the comparison essays because I like how they turned out
the best. Even though the process was tedious, lost tools of writing has hopefully prepared me for
completing papers in the future. Algebra one wasn't fun. But I did learn a lot of

You cling to people like your best friends because they bring you comfort, reassurance, and happiness. Abbie has a younger brother, an older brother, and an older sister. Whereas Ashton only has a younger sister and an older sister. Ashton, being the middle child, often feels neglected and left out. While on the other hand Abbie has brothers that pick on her all the time and pull silly pranks on her. They Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Art Comparison Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that is; it has the capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and 'temperature'. For example; El Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O'Keeffe's desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a 'warm' and appealing landscape. Of course, these are not the only artist to make master works of tonality. Here are five artists (which you may recognize) who have harnesed the power...show more content... Both Velazquez's 'Old Woman' and Rembrandt's 'Prodigal Son' are bathed in (or painted in) golden yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however, chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark void of mystery. Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue). That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art–lover. It is a wonderful story Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Cultural Comparison Paper Cultural Comparison Paper There are many cultural differences between the United States and France. Some of these are simply social and others are cultural. Hofstede's Value Dimensions can be used to highlight the differences between the cultures. Individualism vs collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity/femininity, power distance, and long–term vs short–term orientation are all characteristics that differ between France and the United States. In Communications Between Cultures individualism and collectivism are described by researchers as "self–orientation versus collective orientation as one of the basic pattern variables that determine human action." These differences can be found in family life, school, and workplace...show more content... The cultures prefer as few rules as possible. Typically, people in these cultures don't easily express their emotions. Hofstede uses the words masculinity and femininity to refer to the degree to which masculine or feminine traits are valued or revealed (Samovar, Porter and McDaniel). The United States rates as a moderately masculine. Countries that favor masculinity stress equity, competition, and performance(Yates). They also strive for material success and expected to respect whatever is big, strong, and fast. France values femininity and stress equality, solidarity, and quality of work life (Yates). A feminine worldview maintains that men can assume nurturing roles while promoting sexual equality. One major difference in masculine/feminine cultures is the role of the woman in the workplace and at home. Feminine societies expect women to work and often provide the necessary social support systems. Although the United States is more masculine than France both countries treat females as equals. Power distance describes the distance between power and the members of a particular culture. France has a higher power distance than the United States. Gudykunst describes countries with a high power distance as, "Individuals who accept power as part of society. As such superiors consider their subordinates to be different from themselves and vice Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Another important similarity is the belief that their god created everything and that it is possible to have an individual and personal relationship with him. They strive to bring holiness into every aspect of their lives. The Jewish religion has over 14 million followers ("Christianity and Islam and Judaism: Comparison Chart"). • 7. Comparison Essay: College Writing Vs. High School After reading those two articles, I think college writing is totally different from high school writing; we need to put much more effort on developing our research, thinking and writing skills. In college writing, we will use tools like academic writing situation to help us in creating papers. And we must be responsible for all assignments and works in order to be successful. It is not difficult to write, but writing with professional vocabulary and correct format with our own fresh thoughts is challenging. As Strong said, "Writing is thinking.", there is no perfect first draft, as long as we rewrite with consistent thinking, we will be a qualified college writer. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Comparison Essay Many people seems to like when someone else are interested in the same thing they are into, they are comparing the similarities the other person has to themselves. In my research I had learn the different ways people view their similarities to one another and what men and women view similarities to each other. The researchers that had wrote journals and had profession over similarities are Pieternel Dijkstra (department of Psychology similarity of men and women), Lynne Hall and Sarah Woods (University of Sunderland, UK, University of Hertfordshire, who wrote The Importance of similarity in Empathic) Interactions, Richard L. Moreland and Robert B. Zajonc (Exposure Effects in Person Perception, Familiarity, Similarity, and Attraction). The final two researchers that I had read was R. Matthew Montoya (who wrote a study journal over the social and personal relationships), and the final journal written by Gina C. Gonzaga and Belinda Campos (Similarity, Convergence, and Relationship Satisfaction in Dating and Married Couples.) In the research from Pieternel Dijkstra he had a looked into "similarity–attraction hypothesis" which is when an individual feels attracted to another potential partner who, in important domains, are similar as themselves. Almost the same people are assumed to be attractive because they validate their beliefs about the world and ourselves and reduce the risk of conflicts. Dijkstra had done numerous studies that require to examine closely to the truth that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on Compare and Contrast Regina Brown Mrs. Joarder Eng. 100 April 5, 2013 Cleaning with Barry and Britt The act of being habitually and carefully neat and clean can make for an interesting topic in a comparison and contrast essay. Dave Barry compares the differences of how women and men clean in his compare and contrast essay, Batting Clean– Up and Striking out. In Suzanne Britt's compare and contrast essay, Neat People vs. Sloppy People she compares the differences of personalities between Sloppy people and neat people. Both essays compare cleanliness in one way or another however they both have differences regarding their use of humor, examples, and points made in their thesis. Batting Clean–Up and Striking out and Neat People vs. Sloppy People both offer...show more content... The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting Clean–Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning, did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity. On the other hand, in Britt's Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are "viscous with their mail" she explains, " All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money–saving coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes" (256). As seen in this example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her points, but do these incidences Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. A Comparison of Poetry Essay A Comparison of Poetry In this essay two poems will be juxtaposed. One of the poems is called "My parents kept me from children who were rough". This poem was written by Stephen Spender. Stephen Spender was greatly admired for his work and was knighted in 1983. He lived in the 20th century and died 22 years after W H Auden in 1995 .The second poem chosen is called "Funeral Blues and was written by W H Auden. W H Auden was a greatly respected homosexual poet who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1907 and died in 1973. W H Auden's full name was Wystan Hugh Auden. He wrote Funeral Blues in 1936. The rhythm in "Funeral Blues" is a very slow one which emphasises the sadness of the poet whereas in the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" there is a medium pace rhythm which accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow pace. Both "My parents kept me from children who were rough" and "Funeral Blues" have four lines in every verse but the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" has only three verses whereas "Funeral Blues has four. In the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" all three of the verses are set in the past tense whereas in "Funeral Blues" three of the verses are talking about the present and only one is talking about the past. The verse, which is referring to something in the past, is the one that talks about the man who died. In the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" lines similar to "I feared more than tigers their muscles like iron" conjures up an image in one's head of large and very muscular boys. An example of the boys abuse and images, which is stated in the poem, is " And who threw world like stones and who wore torn clothes". This line shows us that the boys would use bad language and would dress very badly. The imagery in "Funeral Blues" is one of a heart broken man who is very sad and depressed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. War Poem Comparison Essay Gavin Ross Pre–Entry Access Class – English Module Tutors – Aimee McNair and Kevin Wilson Q. In an essay of not more than 1,500 words compare and contrast ONE PAIR of the two pairs of poems printed below. Your answer should exhibiy a clear understanding of each poem's meaning and tone, and you should consider the effect and importance of formal features, such as rhyme scheme, sound patterning, word choice, figurative language and punctuation. Date handed in : 31st January 2011 This essay will compare the poems "On Passing the New Menin Gate" by Siegfried Sassoon (1927) and "Anthem For Doomed Youth" by Wilfred Owen (1917) and decipher whether there are any contrasts of worthwhile note. It will explore the meanings of...show more content... Sassoon and Owen's rhetorical style help connect the reader to the events being described and communicate successfully their feelings of anguish about the war. Sassoon and Owen further communicate their contempt for the war and its unforgiving treatment of the soldiers through the use of alliteration. Sassoon says, "Paid, with a pile of peace–complacent stone" (line 7). The sarcastic use of "Paid" suggests Sassoon does not believe the Menin Gate to be a worthwhile reward. The personification of the monument when Sassoon says, "peace–complacent stone" (line 7) creates the idea that the monument has an unjustified feeling of self–worth and importance and stands arrogantly, believing itself to be a comparable reward to the loss of life and misery endured by thousands of soldiers and families. The repetition of the letter "p" makes it sound as though Sassoon is spitting his words out in a bitter and degrading manner and is effective in demonstrating his anger about the perceived ignorance displayed by the memorial (Internet 10). Owen also achieves an emphatic effect when he uses alliteration in "Anthem For Doomed Youth" when he says, "Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle" (line 3). This harsh sounding repetition of the letter "r" is used for the purpose of sound imagery to help convey the horrors of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

One is a newspaper article written by Polly Toynbee and is called 'Sorry, but I think dying people are more important than dumb animals,' this was published in the Guardian. The other is a leaflet with the title 'It's a crying shame' which is design for animal aid. The Guardian news article is for medical testing on animals. The Animal Aid is against medical testing on animals. Both texts are aimed at the general public who are old enough to have an educated opinion. The newspaper article taken from the Guardian is very basic and is set out like a typical newspaper article would be. The image used...show more content... The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives of the leaflet. 'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front. The image from the Guardian article does not relate to medical testing on animals because images of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

They both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and two inches with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. She has big eyes and also freckles on her face. Nicole tends to dress very casually. However, when it comes to people she likes and enjoys talking to, she is a social butterfly. Amy was never in any a team sport. However, she plays tennis with her cousins for fun. Amy is really sociable and blunt at the same time. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across from us were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while Nicole is more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. For example, during summer, our friend, Julie, invited Nicole, Amy, and Iwatch Green Inferno. Nicole did not want to come along due to the fact that when she watched the trailer of that movie she found it super gory and disgusting. They are novel, drama, poetry, biography, non–fictional prose, essay, epic and short story. All these types of literature have some elements. To complete a piece of literature, a writer, dramatist or a novelist must use certain elements like plot, character, theme, etc. to capture the interest of their readers. After using the historical approach to analyze this story and researching the author herself I found an underlying theme of freedom from social norms with the plot and the character portrayed contributing to that theme. A plot is a dynamic element in fiction, a sequence of interrelated, conflicting actions and events that typically build to a climax and bring about a resolution. In this story the plot is by no means climatic but it starts with a tragic death, which draws you in, I know morbid but true. Everyone is afraid to tell the young woman about her husband's death because of her weak heart. They all fear she will die from grief. • 16. Short Story And Song Comparison Essay The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces. One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song "Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life". The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content... If you overcome them, then basically, you become stronger. For instance, in "Stronger" Kelly demonstrates a few examples of obstacles from life, that are relatable "Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone" (line 16) and tells us that they are experiences in which we learn and get wiser from. This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically, if the obstacles put you down, you've basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. A Comparison of Two Advertisements Advertising is a way of publicizing a product that you want to sell. There are many of different things to advertise, such as clothes, shoes, cars, watches etc. Advertising promotes the latest goods that are out in the shops. Advertising effects me everyday because every time I see a advertisement it attracts me to the product and I think about buying it or saving up to buy it. In this assignment, I will be talking about two different car advertisements; one car advertisement, the Fiat Stilo advert comes from FHM magazine, a publication aimed at young men aged sixteen and over. The other car, the Rover Streetwise advert comes from the Radio Times which is...show more content... The Rover streetwise advert has pictures of daily life things such as coffee, donuts, a football, children's Wellingtons boots and a shopping trolley with groceries inside the trolley. This indicates that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used by a family man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little challenges" is related to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut would represent the father who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley would represent that the car is useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word 'Bump' which is saying that even if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I like the way the advert creates an image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot see a physical person (image) but the pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw the picture of the Wellingtons, an image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert tells stories of different family lives because each picture relates to many things in everyday life. I wouldn't buy this car because it's Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality cars. However the way this car is designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving it. I appreciate this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories–– Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct. In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...show more content... In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy. In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Comparing Email Vs. Traditional Letters When compared on format, time and cost it is proven that emailing is more efficient than traditional letters. In today's generation it is very rare for people to write traditional letters to each other. This generation is becoming known for its quick and a technology based world. Emailing is quick and simple and always at the tip of the fingers. Unlike emailing, traditional letters take time. Emails are more commonly used than letters. This is because emails can be sent and received within minutes. It is a much faster form of communication than a letter. If someone is to write a more formal email you would start off by addressing the person by their name and then get into the body of the email by replying to the purpose of the message. Most emails are sent just for a quick reply. Often times businesses use emails to communicate to other businesses, especially when dealing with transactions. Having a record of when you talked to a person (email timestamps) is a definitive way to make sure people hold up to their end of the deal. Businesses may also use emails to share important documents with one another, you are able to attach a file and then you can share any document you need to. When using an email, the only thing you need is the person's email address. Emails are not as trustworthy as traditional letters however. Traditional letters have a stronger trust behind them as most are hand delivered from door to door. Often times with the capability to have a tracking number. Also like email, Traditional letters have more of a formal format. Traditional letters usually start out with addressing the person in formal way such as "Dear ... ", "Greetings ...
