• Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu also known as
Mother Teresa, was a Roman
Catholic Religious Sister and missionary of
Albanian origin who lived for most of her life
in India.

• Mother Teresa experienced, on 10 September
1946 what she described as "the call within
the call" while travelling to the Loreto convent
in Darjeeling by train from Calcutta for her
annual retreat. “ Mother Teresa also decided
to help the poor as she was captivated by
stories of the lives of missionaries and their
service in Bengal.
4. HISTORY AND IMPACT
• Mother Teresa started her hospice which cared
for the poor, sick, disabled as she became
disturbed by the poverty surrounding her while
she was teaching in Calcutta. Mother Teresa
managed to get the Vatican to approved of her
starting diocesan congregation that would
become the Missionaries of Charity. Her first
hospice which started in Calcutta was converted
from an Indian temple with the help of Tamil
officials.
5. HISTORY AND IMPACT
• Even after her death, work on helping the less
fortunate continued. This showed that Mother
Teresa’s work was well done.
