Gary’s motivation to look after his health resulted in him taking advantage of the
discounted health screening rates that he received as part of Vitality and he booked
an appointment. The screen included a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. PSA is
present in small quantities in the serum of men with healthy prostates but is often
elevated in the presence of prostate cancer (a blood test to measure PSA is considered
the most effective test currently available for the early detection of prostate cancer).
Gary’s Results
Gary’s PSA results were slightly raised and a rectal examination revealed an enlarged right
side of the prostate. A biopsy was performed which confirmed that he had prostate cancer.
Gary had protected 100% of his plan with our unique Minimum Protected Account (MPA)
option, which meant that his cover was immediately topped up after his claim, with no
further underwriting, exclusions or premium increases. MPA can cover up to the maximum
payout of three times the original level of cover or £1 million. Unlike if he was with another
provider, Gary’s PruProtect policy means that he and his family are still protected.
