NEEDHAM, MA – November 5, 2013 – PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC) today announced the availability of
new rapid deployment options for its PTC Materials Compliance Solution for Conflict Minerals.
The PTC Materials Compliance Solution for Conflict Minerals enables manufacturing companies
to comply with new regulations from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
governing the identification and reporting of conflict minerals in their products. By now
offering the solution as a managed service, including on a subscription (i.e. SaaS) basis, PTC is
enabling companies to accelerate their ability to tackle the complex task of compliance with the
first SEC filing deadline looming just seven months away.
In 2010, the U.S. Congress passed legislation, known as the Dodd-Frank Act, which required
manufacturing companies to investigate and disclose any use of minerals – specifically tin,
tantalum, tungsten, and gold – mined in or around the war-torn region of the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (DRC). These minerals are referred to as “conflict minerals.” Companies
listed on the U.S. stock exchanges have until May 31, 2014 to make their first disclosure about
the use of conflict minerals. The rules, however, also impact companies not directly regulated
by the SEC, as compliance requirements are pushed down through the entire supply chain,
including privately-held and international companies that supply components or parts to SEC
registered companies.
With the PTC Materials Compliance Solution for Conflict Minerals, organizations can
systematically assess and report on the status of conflict minerals in products, product families,
and across suppliers. They can also automate the collection of supply chain data and
reasonable country of origin inquiries (RCOI), generate internal risk assessment reports, and
collect key information for the reports required by the SEC or customers regarding the presence
of conflict minerals in the supply chain. This enables companies to comply with the new rules
and demonstrate due diligence for auditors.
With its managed service offering, PTC installs, operates, and maintains its software and
associated infrastructure. By hosting the complete solution, PTC relieves customers from the
burden often placed on internal IT organizations with the demands of a new enterprise
