Math is EVERYWHERE…even on The Street of the Lifted Lorax in the far corner of town. EVEN in Language Arts!!! Grade: 3 Description: M3N3 Students will further develop their understanding of multiplication of whole numbers and develop the ability to apply it in problem solving. Elements: a. Describe the relationship between addition and multiplication, i.e., multiplication is defined as repeated addition.b. Know the multiplication facts with understanding and fluency to 10 x 10.d. Understand the effect on the product when multiplying by multiples of 10.f. Use mental math and estimation strategies to multiply.g. Solve problems requiring multiplication. Dear Lorax, How can we learn about math from you?
Math, Reading, Recycling & Writing…what do those really have anything in common? Let’s find out!! Click on the arrow
Dear Students, I have a great word problem for you all. Please read below. Can you help me solve it? The Once-ler's new machine let him chop down trees four times as fast!  If he was chopping down 25 trees per day, how many could be chopped now?   What if he were chopping down 50?  65?  85?  100?
Let’s work it out! Discuss with your group how you will solve these problems.
Put on your thinking caps!! STOP & THINK Time to really think about how to get the answer!
What’s the Product??The product is the result or the answer of a multiplication problem! Did you know that multiplication is repeated addition? 25+25+25+25=100 50+50+50+50=200 65+65+65+65=260 85+85+85+85=340 100+100+100+100=400 That’s a lot of trees! 25 x 4 = 100 trees 50 x 4 = 200 trees 65 x 4 = 260 trees 85 x 4 = 340 trees 100 x 4 = 400 trees
