order to increase agricultural production.

known as the Green Revolution.
6. CHANGES BROUGHT BY GREEN
REEVOLUTION IN AGRICULTURE
High yielding seeds of Mexican Kuria were
used.
Large quantities of chemical fertilizers and
pesticides were used for better yields.
New canals were made in villages.
7. Borewells were dug extensively.
Tractors and motor-pumps were used.
Soil testing centres and agricultural education
programmes imparted knowledge of new
agricultural methods.
Banks gave agricultural loans to farmers.
8. Problems faced by green
revolution
The traditional seed varieties became
extinct.
Use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers
changed the chemical structure of the soil
and destroyed the microbes in it.
9. It affected the natural enemies of pests
and destroyed the earthworms.
Farmers began to fall in debt.
Job opportunities were reduced due to
mechanisation.
