Background EcoDisc. History. The EcoDisc was invented in 2006 in an effort to create a new DVD medium with its impact on the environment in mind. The focus was to engineer a product which was lighter, uses less energy, dispenses with the need of the harmful toxic bonder and is altogether greener than common media. As a benchmark any such green medium must still display the same playability, capacity, optical and electrical properties of a DVD. The EcoDisc became this green medium. Today EcoDisc is developed and licensed by EcoDisc Technology AG (EDT), a Swiss Research & Development corporation. EDT owns the patents, trademark rights and other intellectual property to develop new media standards that challenge the way data and video are stored and distributed. As environmental concerns constantly raise the bar for carbon saving technologies the EcoDisc is revolutionising the media market as the first true green alternative to conventional media.
