This 3-day training course will provide an overview of carbon finance mechanisms beyond 2012, including the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). The course will cover the status of CDM projects in the 10 countries of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), barriers to CDM development, and international agreements on new mechanisms. Participants will learn about a RCREEE study on supporting CDM projects and developing NAMAs portfolios. Sessions will address the fundamentals of CDM and NAMAs, case studies, and the roles of institutions in these mechanisms. The goal is to enhance capacities for utilizing new mitigation financing beyond

RCREEE in collaboration with CDM/JI Initiative of the German Ministry
of Environment has launched a study covering the 10 RCREEE country
members with 2 main objectives:
• Identify support needs to speed up
the registration of the mature projects
with the high potential of GHG
mitigation before the end up of Kyoto
protocol period commitment on 2012;
• Enhance the capacities of the
RCREEE countries on the new
mitigation supporting mechanisms, by
providing training course, developing
first NAMAs portfolio and formulating
pilot NAMAs.

CDM is considered by developing countries as a complicated mechanism that implies high transaction costs, particularly for small projects which constitute the main potential in the most southern countries.
