The Baltic Sea connects 10 northern European countries and is central to their economies. However, excessive toxins and chemicals from agriculture are running into the Baltic Sea, lowering oxygen levels and fueling harmful algal blooms that block sunlight and kill plant life. To address these problems threatening the Baltic Sea, the surrounding Nordic countries must reduce agricultural chemical use and find more ecological food production methods.
