This document outlines the production process for an A2 Media Studies advanced portfolio from September 2012 to April 2013. It involved researching music videos and magazines, developing ideas for a music video, filming at various locations, editing footage, gathering audience feedback, and completing an evaluation. Milestones included choosing a genre, completing ancillary work, filming, editing drafts of the video, gathering feedback, and finishing the evaluation. Starter activities and decide on genre that we will be focusing on
for our project.
I aim to start my research for ancillary 1 which is looking
at other digi packs to take aspects from them as
inspiration for my own work.
October 2012

I completed the research which gave me an insight into what
elements attracts audiences of my genre to a media piece and
complete ancillary 1.
Research and start ancillary 2.
November 2012

Started and completed the research for ancillary 2 which included
analysing magazine poster adverts for albums.
Complete all of the ancillary research and begin some
audience theory work.
December 2012

Checked all ancillary work was completed to a satisfactory
standard and complete audience theory work which included an
essay on how my work conforms to audience theorists Chandler
Neal and Lacey’s repertoire of elements.
Start to research music videos for final piece.

Researched 3 videos which I like aspects of which I will take and
incorporate into my own work when producing the main piece.
Start audience research which includes a questionnaire
and analysis of questionnaire.

Design and distribute questionnaires for my preliminary target
audience research.
Took longer than I thought to make and distribute
questionnaire therefore this week will collate the
information.

After retrieving my questionnaires I analysed themlooking at what
my target audience preferred and as a group we started a general
ideas generation for the main piece.
Will finish the ideas generation and chose the final idea
for our main product the music video.

We created 3 possible idea mind maps which included different
songs and concepts for the video. We chose our final idea and
completed a write up about it.
As I finished all the work on time this week as a group
we will start scripts and story boards.

As a group we all worked together to complete aspects of the
script, story boards and editing the final song we had chosen.
Finished the variety of aspects for the planning of our
final product.

We began with filming outside shots near our college which we
would incorporate into our video.
Start filming in a different location which would be
around our college.

For some variety we filmed inside for our main piece which
included locations such as a small room with a white background
so the focus would be on the character of the video and also in a
studio environment and on a stage to emphasise the production of
the song through our music video and the development of the
artist.
All filming completed so start to upload footage and
edit.

We began to organise our footage first by moving it from our
camera to the computers which took longer than expected due to
the quality of the footage. We then created a new project and
imported the footage into Adobe Premiere.
Didn’t start editing this week due to technical difficulties
therefore we will start editing this week to create final
product.

We then began editing our footage by adding in the song and
taking clips from our shots and placing them into our final music
video piece.
Didn’t finish editing therefore will take the next week to
finish hopefully.

We continued to edit our footage in Premier into a final product. Didn’t complete editing for another week however will
have a first draft by the end of this upcoming week.

We completed our first draft of the video and exported it from the
editing software and uploaded it to YouTube. From YouTube I then
put it onto my blog as a First Draft Edit.
Will start my evaluation over the Easter holidays.

During the Easter holidays I began the evaluation process of our
coursework and completed question 4 and 1
Complete our main product and evaluation.

Completed the final edit of the music video and continued on
evaluation completing question 2.
Aim to finish evaluation and check over all work and
check it’s on my blog.

Uploaded the final edit of my music video to YouTube and
collected audience feedback on Facebook by creating a group
setting some questions for people to answer and then asking
friends to comment on the wall of the group. Finally completed the
evaluation with question 3 finished on audience feedback after
filming the group concluding the findings from the Facebook
