Comparison of Two Commercials Essay
Outline
Thesis statement: When compared side–by–side, there are differences in the two. Some of these
include that the Lexus ad uses predominantly the logos, or logical, appeal whereas the second uses
pathos, the emotional appeal, the target audiences for both commercials, and the effectiveness of
each. 1. Pathos or logos? 1. VW uses more pathos than Lexus. 1. Humor is effective tactic in
advertising. 2. By using humor, advertisers make their product more memorable. 2. Lexus uses
more Logos than VW. II. Target audiences. 1. VW targets younger viewers but could be effective on
almost anyone. 2. Lexus targets a more mature, serious audience. III. Effectiveness. 1. VW is more
effective because...show more content...
In conclusion, the commercials by Lexus and Volkswagenboth make the viewer consider their
product. To do this, they use different methods of advertising. Also, both companies target different
audiences. When all is said and done, they have varying degrees of success in doing so. Advertising
is a fundamental force in today's society, and because of this, companies must provide the most
effective commercials with presentation of as many logical appeals as possible.

Final Draft: Volkswagen vs. Lexus
Over the last few decades, American culture has been forever changed by the huge amount of
advertisement the people are subjected to. Advertising has become such an integral part of society,
many people will choose whether or not they want to buy a product based only on their familiarity
with it rather than the product's price or effectiveness. Do to that fact, companies must provide the
very best and most convincing advertisements as possible. Those companies have, in fact, done

The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay
The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader
throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The
quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying
Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the
reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No–
Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake
of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded
elations of men.' This introduction creates a...show more content...
Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader
to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story.
Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery
surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that
Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation
promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into
his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing
Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's
dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his
dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot
possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations.
This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her
imperfection. Daisy's past, in the hospital giving birth and before her wedding day show her real
emotion, however the reader is pulled back into her facade after only a few small yet

Comparative Rhetorical Analysis
Throughout the course English 101, I believe my writing skills have improved through
understanding concepts such as rhetorical situation, purpose, audience, ethos, pathos, logos, and
rhetorical analysis. Looking back at the semester, I reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. My
strengths include my note taking skills and being attentive during class. Doing this, I was later able
to use these notes to look back at while writing, which I found very useful. For example, for the essay
Comparative Rhetorical Analysis, I took note of almost every piece of information Dr. Braun gave
us, writing in the margins of the articles and highlighting important phrases. Because of this, writing
came very easily to me not only for that essay but also others,

A Case Report on the Financial Statements of Reed Elsevier and Thomson Corporation Executive
Summary With the objective to understand the business performance of the two entities, we
reviewed the 2007 financial statements of both company and tried to obtain some insight on the
profitability and solvency of each entity. The two companies we study are: Reed Elsevier and
Thomson, in the filed of information and publishing. Reed Elsevier is listed in below stock
exchanges: REN (Euronext Amsterdam), REL (London), RUK and ENL (NYSE). Thomson was
shown (before acquiring Reuters) as TOC (NYSE) and TOC (TSX). As the two multinational
companies we are studying covering diversified businesses, here in the article we are only...show

Net Income from Discontinued Operations
The amount shown on the income statement under
discontinued operations is the profit made during the period from the businesses that will not be
a part of the company in the future. The net profit for the year of Reed Elsevier is higher almost
by 50% due to the profit made from discontinued operations. The net profit of the Thompson
Corporation has also grown by almost 4 times, which is also due mostly to the earnings from
discontinued operations. Net Profit Margin Now let's see how much profit a company makes for
every $ 1 it generates in revenue. Profit margins vary by industry, but all else being equal, the
higher a company's profit margin compared to its competitors, the better. Reed Elsevier: 1,713
/ 6,693= 0.26 Thompson: 1,096 / 7,296 = 0.15 Return on Equity (ROE) One of the most important
profitability metrics is return on equity. Return on equity reveals how much profit a company earned
in comparison to the total amount of shareholder equity. It's what the shareholders "own". A business
that has a high return on equity is more likely to be one that is capable of generating cash internally.
For the most part, the higher a company's return on equity compared to its industry, the better. Let's
calculate ROE for Thomson: the earnings for 2007 were 4,004, and

Comparative Analysis of African American: An Annotated Bibliography Angelou, Maya. "Africa".
The Norton Introduction to Literature 11th ed. New York: 2013 print Norton Mays, Kelly Wheatley,
Phillis. "On Being Brought from Africa to America" The Norton Introduction to Literature. 11th ed.
Ed. Spencer Richardson–Jones. New York: Norton, 2013 The main point of this poem is Maya
Angelou talking about her homeland, Africa. The narrator starts to describe the land of Africa by
using Angelou's body as a representation. Then proceeded to describe how white people came and
invaded her land, thus invading her body. The white people came and killed her people, took and
sold her people, and enforced their religious beliefs. However, instead of carrying a tone of sad
regret over those events, the narrator describes her strength, that despite those events in Angelou's
life she continues to move on and be strong. This poem is a very eye opening and a useful poem.
This poem is helpful because it helps shape my argument. By using her body as a representation of
who she is, it provides me an understanding of her land. Knowing yourself and imagining how it
would feel if someone came and invaded you, this provides the reader a sense of sadness and
understanding. But in the end, it encourages you to continue despite your hardships. The second
poem is about Phillis Wheatley being brought from Africa and into America and how she learned the
religion of the land. However, in the midst of it

A Comparison of Two Advertisements
Advertising is a way of publicizing a product that you want to sell. There are many of different
things to advertise, such as clothes, shoes, cars, watches etc. Advertising promotes the latest goods
that are out in the shops. Advertising effects me everyday because every time I see a advertisement
it attracts me to the product and I think about buying it or saving up to buy it.
In this assignment, I will be talking about two different car advertisements; one car advertisement, the
Fiat Stilo advert comes from FHM magazine, a publication aimed at young men aged sixteen and
over. The other car, the Rover Streetwise advert comes from the Radio Times which is...show more

The Rover streetwise advert has pictures of daily life things such as coffee, donuts, a football,
children's Wellingtons boots and a shopping trolley with groceries inside the trolley. This
indicates that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used
by a family man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little
challenges" is related to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut
would represent the father who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley
would represent that the car is useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word
'Bump' which is saying that even if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I
like the way the advert creates an image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot
see a physical person (image) but the pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw
the picture of the Wellingtons, an image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert
tells stories of different family lives because each picture relates to many things in everyday life.
I wouldn't buy this car because it's Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality
cars. However the way this car is designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving
it. I appreciate this

A Comparative Analysis of Health Care Systems: Germany v. The United States of America
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights announced by the United Nations in 1948,
"Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well–being of himself and
of his family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care and necessary social services, and the
right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack
of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control."[1] The definition of a health care system has
been dynamic and progressive throughout the course of human history. It can be defined at both
macro and microscopic levels of analysis and the system can vary substantially between different
countries, political systems, societies, cultures, socio–economic classes, groups, families, and
individuals.[2] As a system, there are many unique and interconnected segments that integrate
together to serve a collective goal of maintaining the health & well–being of the people. This is most
typically accomplished through a combination of preventative, reactive, and follow–up care.[3]
Health systems are culturally influenced, and can be sub–divided into three main categories, which
include the professional (academic, or scientific formal school training), popular (individual, family
and community based approach), and folk sectors (non–profession healing specialists).[2] In this
paper, a health care

Knowing and Knowledge Assessment 1 Comparative Analysis
This essay will be comparing and analysing the techniques used by two Melbourne based university
lectures, Robert Manne and Patrick Stokes. Both dealing with the thematic subject of opinion.
Concerning Climate Change "Clear, Catastrophic threats, Manne opens the article with an
anecdote, that a "part of the english syllabus [as a schoolboy] was "clear thinking"" (Manne 2011).
This anecdote should set up a relevance and an accessibility to the reader drawing them in and
sympathising with the argument that will be put forward. Almost a third of the article is dense with
data. "1500 or so leading climate scientists" (Manne 2011), "928 scientific papers"...show more

Without reading any content the article looks to follow a linear progression. The content argues that
there is a distinction between opinion and certain knowledge (Stokes 2012),and must be earned
through argument. Interestingly, Stokes initiates an argument with Meryl Dorey during the article.
Stokes' piece opens similar to Manne's in the use of anecdote about how he addresses his students
philosophers. Anecdote should be used to give relevance to the reader, as aforementioned, though
not many reading his article sit in Stokes' philosophy lectures. It's interesting he uses this technique.
Though, as Stokes goes on, he uses three paragraphs on just this anecdote, telling the reader that how
he teaches a class, but also setting the main contention of his piece. The formatting makes everything
clear. Appeals toauthority is a main use of persuasive technique used in the article. Stokes references
Plato and his distinction between opinion or common belief and certain knowledge. With that appeal
Stokes states that "opinion has a degree of subjectivity and uncertainty to it" (Stokes 2012). Stokes
also uses distinction as a persuasive technique. He separates the degree of opinion that it's "...silly to
insist that strawberry ice cream is better than chocolate" (Stokes 2012) but arguing an opinion
without the relevant qualifications is also just as silly. Again, that clarity in distinction has an effect
on the comprehension of Stokes' argument. Coherence in

Essay 1 The methods of political control used by the Han and Imperial Roman Empires were
different, as in the degree of citizen participation in government because of how each empire
utilized it to control the people. However, the use of theologies to justify rule was a similar
method used by the two empires because it allowed leaders to win over the people in more ways
than one. In addition, the use of militaries to control the population and outlying territories was a
similar method because the empires were so vast and diverse that force was needed to control
people. The Romans and the Han had different views on government and who should participate in

In India, seperate smaller monarchies would constantly battle until unified under the Mauryan
Empire. But, after the Mauryans fell, India became fragmented again, thus re–emphasizing the need
for an emperor. In both places, they fought and bickered in and amongst themselves until the ruler
came around to unify them. The single ruler figured as a method of political control in both
empires because the emperor made most of the decisions about the law, about taxation, and
various other political aspects of the region. In other words, this one strong political figure ran
the country mostly on his own. Both empires had similar provincial administration due to the vast
territory of both empires. News from Rome or Pataliputra would take at least days. Each empire
had far reaching territories such as Egypt and Cappadocia in Rome, and Punjab and Bengal in
Gupta, could me up to 1,000 miles away from the capital. The began to use this provincial
administration to keep this under control because of the slow time it would take to ride 1,000 miles
out to Cappadocia to deliver news from the emperor. Also, in both empires high–ranking officials or
friends of the emperor would serve as a sort of "governor". They would be a mini–emperor for a

control of religion in the two empires, because they had different views on religion as a tool

The report includes detailed financial statements as well as reports on new products and future
projects designed to continue the company's relevance in the market place and future success. In
contrast to the Caribou Coffee annual report, the Frazer Group concentrates on the company's past
performance and current operations with an optimistic vision for continued success .("Frazer," n.d.).
When comparing the two annual reports, the differences in formatting and commentary are apparent.
The financial statements, however, are very similar in content. Many terms used in the reports vary,
but the principle use of the data remains constant.
Profitability.
Which of these two companies is more profitable? Examining select data from the two sets of
financial statements, and calculating simple ratios and percentages can easily answer that question
(Table 1). Using the net profit on sales, one can determine how much profit results from the amount
of revenue the company generates from sales. This is expressed as a percentage, and a higher
number means less operating expenses.
The current liquidity ratio determines a company's ability to meet near term financial obligations.
Again, a higher number is better for the company and represents the company's financial position in
near term operations.
A debt to equity ratio measures the amount of debt a company owes in relation to the amount of
total equity in the company. Any figure below 1.00 is good, and

1.What is the comparative method, and how is it useful for understanding variance between and
among the states? The comparative method is used to compare and contrast the structure of
governments between states. An example of the comparative method is dogs in West Virginia are
taxed, compared to Nebraska where dogs are licensed. Variance is the difference between the
measurable units. Noting the differences among city limits governments, such as, Apopka to
Altamonte, Altamonte to Winter Park, Winter Park to Orlando, Orlando to Tampa and so forth.

Essay on Comparative Analysis of Art
Art History

Throughout history art has served as a preservation and representation of the time in which they were
made. During the Ancient Greek period art was not only mare naturalistic and humanistic but also
became directly affected by the events going around. Both the Marble Statue of an Old Woman and
the Marble Statue of Aphrodite are sculptures that were made during the Ancient Greek era, they
each tell a story of what was going on during that point in time.
The Marble Statue of Aphrodite is the eldest of the two sculptures, it was sculpted between the 2nd
and 3rd century B .C. During this period Greece was at its peak, the people of Greece had power
and wealth. The art made at this time...show more content...
Another reason why the arms have fallen off is because, unlike the major societies before them,
Greeks believed in humanistic art. Societies before the Greeks, such as the Egyptians, used to keep
the material between what would be spaces between arms and body and the legs. This form of art
was not humanistic not realistic enough for the Greeks so most of their artwork follows the ideals of
humanism. Artists would break off the extra material that would remain after the statue was fully
sculpted. To further the realistic look of the Aphroditesculpture the artist, who is unknown at this
time, detailed the curves of her body. You can view the lines of her stomach and breasts which are
simple and uncomplicated and create an image that looks like a real woman.
Greeks continued with the ideas of humanism and realism even as their society aged and changed.
Like many great societies before them Greeks hit a climactic point in their era that had people
uneasy and artist evolving away from the artistic norms that had been practiced for years; this new
era was known as the Hellenistic Period. The Sculpture of an Old Woman is an example of this
radical change in art; still loyal to the idea of humanism this sculpture is not of a goddess or soldier,
as many arts were based on before, it was of a normal average, everyday elder woman who could
have simply been walking down the street. Not only did the artist stray away from the norms of
subject matter but they

Comparative Analysis of Slave Narratives
Comparative Analysis of Slave Narratives Wallace Quarterman (1935) was a slave on Skidaway
Island, Georgia before the Civil War. The available audio narrative covers only a portion of his
life, primarily from the moment of his freedom through coping with Reconstruction. Aunt Harriet
Smith (1941) provides a longer view of her life on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, from her
childhood through her three marriages. Both reported being treated well by their 'masters' before
the Civil War ended. The point at which Quarterman's (1935) narration picks up is when he hears
the Union cannons firing close by. At the time, he was 'toting' breakfast for the master, Colonel
Fewary. The Colonel interrupted him in his task and asked whether the noise was thunder or
something else. Based on the narration, the guns grew close enough that the dishes on the table
began to rattle, whereupon the Colonel ordered Quarterman to run out to the fields and tell the
driver Peter to let the slaves go. Apparently, there was some fear of retribution if the Union troops
came upon plantations still holding slaves. The driver did not believe Quarterman at first, but when
the Union troops arrived the slaves threw down their farming implements and began to rejoice.
Despite Quarterman's (1935) claim that he was not mistreated by the Colonel, it seems obvious from
the rejoicing of the slaves that conditions could not have been great. However, there may be some
truth to what he claims, since he was

Quantitative vs. Qualitative: A Comparative Analysis of Research Methods Engaging in a research
project can be a frightening and intimidating task for anyone. However, Polansky and Waller (2015)
provide a six–step process that is designed to simplify the research process by alleviating anxiety
and ensuring that the researcher is able to complete the project in a timely manner. The first step is
defining the problem so that it is clearly understood. Once there is clarity on what needs to be done
or of what is required, the focus can shift towards completion of the project. Step two is laying out
the research objectives that need to be accomplished in order to arrive at a solution to the research
question. Next, a determination is made on the best course of action to acquire the required
information. Once a suitable framework is selected, it is time to move on to the fourth step, which
is gathering data. The fifth step involves analyzing and deciphering the data and putting it all into a
usable format that answers the research question. Finally, we arrive at step six, which means the
research question has been answered, and the results are ready for presentation (Polansky & Waller,
2015). Research in its most elementary form can be described as the activities that enable us to
expand our knowledge. The process involves the gathering and synthesis of information so that the
facts surrounding a given problem can be analyzed and a suitable answer or alternative solution to the

Communication Genre Comparative Analysis
Introduction
Public administrators use many communication genres to reach their audiences. These genres range
from business cards to governmental proposals. Each one has its own purpose. Each one has its own
way of getting information to the audience quickly and efficiently. Each one has been affected by
technology. Each has its own discourse conventions associated with it. And each has its own method

It provides an explanation of previous events for the reader or investigative results, and stipulations
for implementation of policies and enforcement of these policies. Apolicy handbook is a
comprehensive guide for the expectations of employees. It provides a statement of core values and
purpose, code of conduct, and guidance for internal action.
Reaching the Intended Audience
The business card and resume both provide substantial information to the reader. However, the
genres are different. The business card provides the identity of the agency or organization, address,
and phone number. On the other hand, the resume provides the reader with information regarding
the candidate's employment experience and skills. A policy memorandum genre is different in that it
provides the reader with information regarding to whom the memorandum is addressed, who it is
from, along with a subject to be discussed. Public policy reports genre differ as they are an ongoing
process that serves as a means to an end of changes in policy behavior, unlike policy handbooks that
provide detailed instructions on how to implement rules within an organization.
Technology
Technology has advanced the development of genres in various ways. As readers or viewers
process documents and view websites, they learn to recognize an agency, a business, or an
organization with the use of a business card. Likewise, advances in technology have changed the
way employers

Comparative study of Literature and Intercultural understanding: Language and Religion play a
major role in formation of a culture. Literature is one of the medium that propagates tenets of a

  • 1. Comparison of Two Commercials Essay Outline Thesis statement: When compared side–by–side, there are differences in the two. Some of these include that the Lexus ad uses predominantly the logos, or logical, appeal whereas the second uses pathos, the emotional appeal, the target audiences for both commercials, and the effectiveness of each. 1. Pathos or logos? 1. VW uses more pathos than Lexus. 1. Humor is effective tactic in advertising. 2. By using humor, advertisers make their product more memorable. 2. Lexus uses more Logos than VW. II. Target audiences. 1. VW targets younger viewers but could be effective on almost anyone. 2. Lexus targets a more mature, serious audience. III. Effectiveness. 1. VW is more effective because...show more content... In conclusion, the commercials by Lexus and Volkswagenboth make the viewer consider their product. To do this, they use different methods of advertising. Also, both companies target different audiences. When all is said and done, they have varying degrees of success in doing so. Advertising is a fundamental force in today's society, and because of this, companies must provide the most effective commercials with presentation of as many logical appeals as possible. Advertising has become such an integral part of society, many people will choose whether or not they want to buy a product based only on their familiarity with it rather than the product's price or effectiveness. Do to that fact, companies must provide the very best and most convincing advertisements as possible. Those companies have, in fact, done Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No– Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded elations of men.' This introduction creates a...show more content... Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story. Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations. This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her imperfection. Daisy's past, in the hospital giving birth and before her wedding day show her real emotion, however the reader is pulled back into her facade after only a few small yet Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Comparative Rhetorical Analysis Throughout the course English 101, I believe my writing skills have improved through understanding concepts such as rhetorical situation, purpose, audience, ethos, pathos, logos, and rhetorical analysis. Looking back at the semester, I reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. My strengths include my note taking skills and being attentive during class. Doing this, I was later able to use these notes to look back at while writing, which I found very useful. For example, for the essay Comparative Rhetorical Analysis, I took note of almost every piece of information Dr. Braun gave us, writing in the margins of the articles and highlighting important phrases. Because of this, writing came very easily to me not only for that essay but also others, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. A Case Report on the Financial Statements of Reed Elsevier and Thomson Corporation Executive Summary With the objective to understand the business performance of the two entities, we reviewed the 2007 financial statements of both company and tried to obtain some insight on the profitability and solvency of each entity. The two companies we study are: Reed Elsevier and Thomson, in the filed of information and publishing. Reed Elsevier is listed in below stock exchanges: REN (Euronext Amsterdam), REL (London), RUK and ENL (NYSE). Thomson was shown (before acquiring Reuters) as TOC (NYSE) and TOC (TSX). As the two multinational companies we are studying covering diversified businesses, here in the article we are only...show more content... Net Income from Discontinued Operations
The amount shown on the income statement under discontinued operations is the profit made during the period from the businesses that will not be a part of the company in the future. The net profit for the year of Reed Elsevier is higher almost by 50% due to the profit made from discontinued operations. The net profit of the Thompson Corporation has also grown by almost 4 times, which is also due mostly to the earnings from discontinued operations. Net Profit Margin Now let's see how much profit a company makes for every $ 1 it generates in revenue. Profit margins vary by industry, but all else being equal, the higher a company's profit margin compared to its competitors, the better. Reed Elsevier: 1,713 / 6,693= 0.26 Thompson: 1,096 / 7,296 = 0.15 Return on Equity (ROE) One of the most important profitability metrics is return on equity. Return on equity reveals how much profit a company earned in comparison to the total amount of shareholder equity. It's what the shareholders "own". A business that has a high return on equity is more likely to be one that is capable of generating cash internally. For the most part, the higher a company's return on equity compared to its industry, the better. Let's calculate ROE for Thomson: the earnings for 2007 were 4,004, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Comparative Analysis of African American: An Annotated Bibliography Angelou, Maya. "Africa". The Norton Introduction to Literature 11th ed. New York: 2013 print Norton Mays, Kelly Wheatley, Phillis. "On Being Brought from Africa to America" The Norton Introduction to Literature. 11th ed. Ed. Spencer Richardson–Jones. New York: Norton, 2013 The main point of this poem is Maya Angelou talking about her homeland, Africa. The narrator starts to describe the land of Africa by using Angelou's body as a representation. Then proceeded to describe how white people came and invaded her land, thus invading her body. The white people came and killed her people, took and sold her people, and enforced their religious beliefs. However, instead of carrying a tone of sad regret over those events, the narrator describes her strength, that despite those events in Angelou's life she continues to move on and be strong. This poem is a very eye opening and a useful poem. This poem is helpful because it helps shape my argument. By using her body as a representation of who she is, it provides me an understanding of her land. Knowing yourself and imagining how it would feel if someone came and invaded you, this provides the reader a sense of sadness and understanding. But in the end, it encourages you to continue despite your hardships. The second poem is about Phillis Wheatley being brought from Africa and into America and how she learned the religion of the land. However, in the midst of it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Ty is friends with cady even though she killed someone, and summer is friends with auggy even though his face looks different. And Summer from wonder ,by R.J. Palacio and Ty from Girl who was Supposed to die, by April Henry. Are fantastic books. They have many similarities.Because Summer is a good friend to Auggy, and Ty is a good friend to Cady. They have kind hearts, Even to take care of there friends that are in danger. They protect their friends when they are in trouble. And that's why both characters are protective of those they care for.Because in both stories they stand up for their friends, And lastly they are there when there friends need them....show more content... • 7. A Comparison of Two Advertisements Advertising is a way of publicizing a product that you want to sell. There are many of different things to advertise, such as clothes, shoes, cars, watches etc. Advertising promotes the latest goods that are out in the shops. Advertising effects me everyday because every time I see a advertisement it attracts me to the product and I think about buying it or saving up to buy it. In this assignment, I will be talking about two different car advertisements; one car advertisement, the Fiat Stilo advert comes from FHM magazine, a publication aimed at young men aged sixteen and over. The other car, the Rover Streetwise advert comes from the Radio Times which is...show more content... The Rover streetwise advert has pictures of daily life things such as coffee, donuts, a football, children's Wellingtons boots and a shopping trolley with groceries inside the trolley. This indicates that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used by a family man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little challenges" is related to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut would represent the father who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley would represent that the car is useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word 'Bump' which is saying that even if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I like the way the advert creates an image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot see a physical person (image) but the pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw the picture of the Wellingtons, an image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert tells stories of different family lives because each picture relates to many things in everyday life. I wouldn't buy this car because it's Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality cars. However the way this car is designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving it. I appreciate this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. A Comparative Analysis of Health Care Systems: Germany v. The United States of America According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights announced by the United Nations in 1948, "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well–being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control."[1] The definition of a health care system has been dynamic and progressive throughout the course of human history. It can be defined at both macro and microscopic levels of analysis and the system can vary substantially between different countries, political systems, societies, cultures, socio–economic classes, groups, families, and individuals.[2] As a system, there are many unique and interconnected segments that integrate together to serve a collective goal of maintaining the health & well–being of the people. This is most typically accomplished through a combination of preventative, reactive, and follow–up care.[3] Health systems are culturally influenced, and can be sub–divided into three main categories, which include the professional (academic, or scientific formal school training), popular (individual, family and community based approach), and folk sectors (non–profession healing specialists).[2] In this paper, a health care Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Comparative Analysis Essay Joel Spencer 3779350 Knowing and Knowledge Assessment 1 Comparative Analysis This essay will be comparing and analysing the techniques used by two Melbourne based university lectures, Robert Manne and Patrick Stokes. Both dealing with the thematic subject of opinion. Concerning Climate Change "Clear, Catastrophic threats, Manne opens the article with an anecdote, that a "part of the english syllabus [as a schoolboy] was "clear thinking"" (Manne 2011). This anecdote should set up a relevance and an accessibility to the reader drawing them in and sympathising with the argument that will be put forward. Almost a third of the article is dense with data. "1500 or so leading climate scientists" (Manne 2011), "928 scientific papers"...show more content... Without reading any content the article looks to follow a linear progression. The content argues that there is a distinction between opinion and certain knowledge (Stokes 2012),and must be earned through argument. Interestingly, Stokes initiates an argument with Meryl Dorey during the article. Stokes' piece opens similar to Manne's in the use of anecdote about how he addresses his students philosophers. Anecdote should be used to give relevance to the reader, as aforementioned, though not many reading his article sit in Stokes' philosophy lectures. It's interesting he uses this technique. Though, as Stokes goes on, he uses three paragraphs on just this anecdote, telling the reader that how he teaches a class, but also setting the main contention of his piece. The formatting makes everything clear. Appeals toauthority is a main use of persuasive technique used in the article. Stokes references Plato and his distinction between opinion or common belief and certain knowledge. With that appeal Stokes states that "opinion has a degree of subjectivity and uncertainty to it" (Stokes 2012). Stokes also uses distinction as a persuasive technique. He separates the degree of opinion that it's "...silly to insist that strawberry ice cream is better than chocolate" (Stokes 2012) but arguing an opinion without the relevant qualifications is also just as silly. Again, that clarity in distinction has an effect on the comprehension of Stokes' argument. Coherence in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Comparative Essay Examples Essay 1 The methods of political control used by the Han and Imperial Roman Empires were different, as in the degree of citizen participation in government because of how each empire utilized it to control the people. However, the use of theologies to justify rule was a similar method used by the two empires because it allowed leaders to win over the people in more ways than one. In addition, the use of militaries to control the population and outlying territories was a similar method because the empires were so vast and diverse that force was needed to control people. The Romans and the Han had different views on government and who should participate in it. The Romans allowed a Senate to be elected, although only certain people could...show more content... But, after the Mauryans fell, India became fragmented again, thus re–emphasizing the need for an emperor. In both places, they fought and bickered in and amongst themselves until the ruler came around to unify them. The single ruler figured as a method of political control in both empires because the emperor made most of the decisions about the law, about taxation, and various other political aspects of the region. In other words, this one strong political figure ran the country mostly on his own. Both empires had similar provincial administration due to the vast territory of both empires. Also, in both empires high–ranking officials or friends of the emperor would serve as a sort of "governor". They would be a mini–emperor for a specific region of the empire and report to the ruler what he needed. In contrast to the Caribou Coffee annual report, the Frazer Group concentrates on the company's past performance and current operations with an optimistic vision for continued success .("Frazer," n.d.). When comparing the two annual reports, the differences in formatting and commentary are apparent. The financial statements, however, are very similar in content. Many terms used in the reports vary, but the principle use of the data remains constant. Profitability. Which of these two companies is more profitable? Examining select data from the two sets of financial statements, and calculating simple ratios and percentages can easily answer that question (Table 1). Using the net profit on sales, one can determine how much profit results from the amount of revenue the company generates from sales. This is expressed as a percentage, and a higher number means less operating expenses. The current liquidity ratio determines a company's ability to meet near term financial obligations. Again, a higher number is better for the company and represents the company's financial position in near term operations. A debt to equity ratio measures the amount of debt a company owes in relation to the amount of total equity in the company. Any figure below 1.00 is good, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Example Of Comparative Method 1.What is the comparative method, and how is it useful for understanding variance between and among the states? The comparative method is used to compare and contrast the structure of governments between states. An example of the comparative method is dogs in West Virginia are taxed, compared to Nebraska where dogs are licensed. Variance is the difference between the measurable units. Noting the differences among city limits governments, such as, Apopka to Altamonte, Altamonte to Winter Park, Winter Park to Orlando, Orlando to Tampa and so forth. Marking the differences between states– i.e. Florida to Alabama is determining the variance laws from state to state. 2.Compare and contrast the three types of political culture. • 13. Essay on Comparative Analysis of Art Art History Professor November 2012 Throughout history art has served as a preservation and representation of the time in which they were made. During the Ancient Greek period art was not only mare naturalistic and humanistic but also became directly affected by the events going around. Both the Marble Statue of an Old Woman and the Marble Statue of Aphrodite are sculptures that were made during the Ancient Greek era, they each tell a story of what was going on during that point in time. The Marble Statue of Aphrodite is the eldest of the two sculptures, it was sculpted between the 2nd and 3rd century B .C. During this period Greece was at its peak, the people of Greece had power and wealth. The art made at this time...show more content... Another reason why the arms have fallen off is because, unlike the major societies before them, Greeks believed in humanistic art. Societies before the Greeks, such as the Egyptians, used to keep the material between what would be spaces between arms and body and the legs. This form of art was not humanistic not realistic enough for the Greeks so most of their artwork follows the ideals of humanism. Artists would break off the extra material that would remain after the statue was fully sculpted. To further the realistic look of the Aphroditesculpture the artist, who is unknown at this time, detailed the curves of her body. You can view the lines of her stomach and breasts which are simple and uncomplicated and create an image that looks like a real woman. Greeks continued with the ideas of humanism and realism even as their society aged and changed. Like many great societies before them Greeks hit a climactic point in their era that had people uneasy and artist evolving away from the artistic norms that had been practiced for years; this new era was known as the Hellenistic Period. The Sculpture of an Old Woman is an example of this radical change in art; still loyal to the idea of humanism this sculpture is not of a goddess or soldier, as many arts were based on before, it was of a normal average, everyday elder woman who could have simply been walking down the street. Not only did the artist stray away from the norms of subject matter but they Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. Comparative Analysis of Slave Narratives Comparative Analysis of Slave Narratives Wallace Quarterman (1935) was a slave on Skidaway Island, Georgia before the Civil War. The available audio narrative covers only a portion of his life, primarily from the moment of his freedom through coping with Reconstruction. Aunt Harriet Smith (1941) provides a longer view of her life on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, from her childhood through her three marriages. Both reported being treated well by their 'masters' before the Civil War ended. The point at which Quarterman's (1935) narration picks up is when he hears the Union cannons firing close by. At the time, he was 'toting' breakfast for the master, Colonel Fewary. The Colonel interrupted him in his task and asked whether the noise was thunder or something else. Based on the narration, the guns grew close enough that the dishes on the table began to rattle, whereupon the Colonel ordered Quarterman to run out to the fields and tell the driver Peter to let the slaves go. Apparently, there was some fear of retribution if the Union troops came upon plantations still holding slaves. The driver did not believe Quarterman at first, but when the Union troops arrived the slaves threw down their farming implements and began to rejoice. Despite Quarterman's (1935) claim that he was not mistreated by the Colonel, it seems obvious from the rejoicing of the slaves that conditions could not have been great. However, there may be some truth to what he claims, since he was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Quantitative vs. Qualitative: A Comparative Analysis of Research Methods Engaging in a research project can be a frightening and intimidating task for anyone. However, Polansky and Waller (2015) provide a six–step process that is designed to simplify the research process by alleviating anxiety and ensuring that the researcher is able to complete the project in a timely manner. The first step is defining the problem so that it is clearly understood. Once there is clarity on what needs to be done or of what is required, the focus can shift towards completion of the project. Step two is laying out the research objectives that need to be accomplished in order to arrive at a solution to the research question. Next, a determination is made on the best course of action to acquire the required information. Once a suitable framework is selected, it is time to move on to the fourth step, which is gathering data. The fifth step involves analyzing and deciphering the data and putting it all into a usable format that answers the research question. Finally, we arrive at step six, which means the research question has been answered, and the results are ready for presentation (Polansky & Waller, 2015). Research in its most elementary form can be described as the activities that enable us to expand our knowledge. The process involves the gathering and synthesis of information so that the facts surrounding a given problem can be analyzed and a suitable answer or alternative solution to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
