The Importance Of Descriptive Writing
The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to
visualize the world that the author wants them to see. Descriptive writing becomes much more
valuable, however, when it is used in non–fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to
precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death.
This was indeed the case with the journals of the early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark,
and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced
by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion
of the United States by providing accurate and...show more content...
The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must
consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be able to compare the party's progress against
one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of
their own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the
amount of ground covered.
After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse
and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in much pain this evening with the injury one of
his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks
ankle is also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some
where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the party continued to walk for at least 10
miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have
died had the water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries
was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should recognize this feat and should not
compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the
party to give the injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of
the party were injured, was not necessary to include. It would

Descriptive Essay
It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the
wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You
spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes
amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming
rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the
intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made
me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy
attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are...show more content...
One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have
you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not
officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger,
is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and
driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by
the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for
your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it."
The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not
appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious
about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against
drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do
not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off
the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink
and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each
night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

Descriptive Essay About Myself
I find it extremely tough to talk about myself and my personal traits. In order for me to dIscuss
who I am in an accurate manner then I must provide some basic background information on
myself and talk about the Environment I grew up in. This way people can get a better
understanding of why I am the way I am. My Background is so essential In making me myself
because If I had been born under any different circumstances or grew up any differently I would be
a different person than I am today. I was born inAberdeen Scotland but raised in Fort Bend County
Texas. Aberdeen and Fort Bend both have great opportunities but differ in many ways. One way in
which they differ is that Fort Bend is very culturally diverse while in Aberdeen most of...show more

Her family communicates to one another using spanish or sometimes english. I have always
grown up in a family that speaks only english so I find it interesting to go over to other people's
houses and hear them communicating in another language. On top of all of this meeting different
people has also opened my mind to new ideas. For example, in school when we work in group
projects we collaborate and communicate with people who think differently than us then work
together to figure out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them.
Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic
circumstances. I have always had access to anything I needed and for that I have extreme
gratitude because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a
family with such good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities.
One Opportunity I had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I did taekwondo until I reached a
blackbelt which took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other
competitors and break boards in order to continue to move up to the next level. Taekwondo also
helped keep me in good shape and fit when I was younger. Another Opportunity I am grateful for is
the skill of playing the piano. At first I was not all that enthusiastic about playing it but my parents
has signed me up and insisted I

Descriptive Essay About My Trip
My Trip to Mexico On a nice hot day, my sister and I were in our small room of our apartment.
There was clothes all over our white room floor. We were packing up our clothes and getting
ready to go to Mexico. Once we left our house we turned off the light from our small room, we
looked back and now our small room was dark and empty. All that was left was our bed and my
older sister 's clothing. We finally got to the airport. In the airport we met up with my two aunts,
named Vicky and Anna. We also met up with our cousin, Katie. We waited hours and hours for the
1st plane to arrive. We got on the first plane like around 10:00 pm, we got off of that plane ride
around 1:00 am. We got on the 2nd plane at around 3:00 am and arrived at Carmen...show more

We also got chicken to make before we headed to the beach. We cooked the chicken and ate it with
green salsa and beans. "Thank you for this breakfast," I told my aunt. "De nada," said my aunt,
Mago. "Go change into your swimming clothes, so we can leave already," said my aunt Anna.
Once we headed to the beach we ran straight into the water we put on our goggles and it was so
pretty. I saw hermit crabs walking around on the ocean's floor. I was so surprised at how clear I
was able to see the sea animals and shells. We got beautiful shells from the seashore. These shells
were big and beautiful colors and patterns on them. After 3 hours of being at the beach we went
back to my aunt's house. We watched TV the rest of the day and then fell asleep. The next days
were similar to the first two, we would eat breakfast, go to the beach, go to stores, come home, eat,
watch t.v, and sleep. The last day we went to the beach I was so happy and sad that this was going to
be our last time at this beach. While we were getting wet, my sister and cousin got out of the water
very fast. "Where are you guys going?" I asked. "There is a sh..sh..sh..shark!" They both yelled.
"Where?'' I asked. "It is like fifteen feet away from you" said my cousin, Katie. I turned around and
looked. "That is a dolphin," I said. "Okay whatever you say," said my sister, Beatriz. I started to get a
little closer to the "shark" , as I got near I realized it was a

Descriptive Essay On A Trip
The art studies–at–large trip has been a once in a lifetime trip. From a twenty–four hour plane trip
with a stop in Chicago and time zone change, it has been an exhausting yet enjoyable time running
around with my classmates in the airport. Being in a different country and experiencing a new
culture first hand was astonishing and gave me a new outlook of the beauties in the world. From
Montone, Florence, Venice, andRome I had the ultimate trip in Italy. The food, language, and
culture were different from what I was used to but it was worth the experience. I was not fond of
drinking wine with every dinner though the wine was delicious. I had the best pastas, tiramisus,
and coffees while I was in Italy. The art was beautiful; it was breathtaking to see how many free
artworks was there for the public. After being in Italy for about a month I can see why people are
attracted and want to live in Italy. Montone is a beautiful, peaceful, and friendly town. I enjoyed
the walk to town, the covenant, Aries CafГ©, the tavern restaurant, and the town's people. I had
the best cappuccino and coffee at Aries and I loved every dish I ate at the tavern restaurant. The
view from the covenant was beautiful and works perfectly for a painting. Getting around town was
easy with everyone being so nice and helpful. The piazza was a great place to hang out because of
friendly the environment was and it was the main spot in town where everyone stayed. Getting a

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by
a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an
abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them
that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a
whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics.
These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my
experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we
wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In
this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with
describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of
the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's
Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly
made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I
added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell
it. It

How to Write a Descriptive Essay
More than many other types of essays, descriptive essays strive to create a deeply involved and
vivid experience for the reader. Great descriptive essays achieve this affect not through facts and
statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions.
What do you want to describe?
As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you
want to describe. Often, a descriptive essay will focus on portraying one of the following: a person a
place a memory an experience an object
Ultimately, whatever you can perceive or experience can be the focus of your descriptive writing.

Descriptive Essay About My First Job
My First Job. Or should I say the first instance where I earned a large sum of money for working.
It was not that hard only moving a little bit of mulch. But it meant a lot in a different way. I was
becoming an adult working hard in return for a few scraps of paper. The paper that makes the
world go round. I was earning it through some tough, but short labor. The Work was let's just say
cumbersome. It was a warm day in March the sun was blistering hot, heating anything under it
like an oven. While a bitter cold breeze blew all the heat away. Except in my case, wearing storm,
including wind resistant pants and a shirt that trapped that heat right in. Let's just say I was
sweating in a few minutes. I hate my thick Wisconsin blood. The heat would have not been that
bad if my face and hands weren't rosy from the chill. The job was tough but I was growing up. I
quickly grew calluses on my hands and had dirt in my pores. There were scratches on my arms
and pine needles down my neck. I was starting to look like a man. I was starting to become like my
dad. Hands callused and skin tough and thick like leather. The palms rough with wear. I was only
beginning. Hands soft, muscles strong, but not hardened, built for work. This was only the beginning.
Ever hour or so another muscle group would get sore. Before long everything hurt. But I knew it
would all be worth it in the end. Every adult worked and I could too, the money was worth it. Soon
that was all that filled my mind the

My creator. My abettor. My sidekick. My teacher. My defender. My superstar. These are all the
things that my sire wholeheartedly is. From keeping me safe to play childish games, he is always
there to guide me. Although his overloaded job keeps him at station for an eternity, he quickly
maneuvers through the overwhelming pile of work, and somehow still finds time to help me study
for a test, help me finish my homework, and play games with me. When a monstrous test is
charging at me with all of its might, he uses his brilliant mind to swiftly teach me how to defeat the
test with a triumphant score. Then comes the period of activity, the hardest part of his day, the part
where he almost always quits and leaves: the workout. With a determination to become physically
fit, he bolts up the rigid stairs, charging into his closet to get dressed into his navy baggy sweatpants
and his neon yellow t–shirt; then races down to the basement like it's the end of the world. The
Xbox sits idle while the fitness game eagerly waits to be played. He fires up the Xbox and starts on
his 1–hour journey to absolutely destroy the computer in tennis. Following his crushing victory over
the weak computer in tennis, I wandered to the basement in hopes of escaping my dreadful
homework, only to be absolutely flabbergasted by the number of experience points he has gained on
the game. Then comes the part where my ponderous dad sluggishly lumbers up the stern stairs.
Suddenly his stomach rumbles and

A cool breeze blew across my face as I lie on the the white leather seats of my family's new boat.
The water sloshes around rocking me back and forth ever so gently. I turn my head away from
the gleaming sun straight above as it starts to sting my eyes. My furry black labrador retriever
comes up and puts her nose right next to my face so I can feel her breath. I reach out and touch
her velvety ears as she begins to lay down hoping for a belly rub. I hear my sisters laugh as her
and her friend jump into the deep blue lake making drops of water spray up which lightly land on
my skin. I sit up and rest my chin on the top of the seat and peer down into the water watching
them swim about. Their legs are barely visible under the dusky water; their matching striped bathing
suits were still visible. It reminded me of a scene in a watercolor painting, each color so vivid in the
shimmer sun. My sister playfully splashed her friend as they swam in circles screaming and
laughing. I turned around sitting flat of the chair and slipped my flip flops, my thighs stuck to
the hot seat as I stood up in the humid air before walking to the back of the boat. I layed down a
blue and white striped beach towel on the damped ground and proceeded to sit down. I dipped my
feet into the dark waters and watched as they seemed to disappear. The top part of the water was

Hunt Descriptive Writing
Waking up before the rising sun on the morning of the hunt left me feeling groggy with my eyes
slow to open and close when blinking. Being extra quiet to not wake up my mother was a main
challenge, trying to tippy toe around the cabin and dodging the creaky spots in the floor. Prior to
eating breakfast, I began getting dressed. Due to the fact that I was in northern Minnesota, the
weather was bone chilling and the wind would seep right through your layers onto your
unexpecting skin. Once I had put on my long johns, sweatpants, and long sleeve shirt with a tee
shirt on top I began to make my breakfast. I had decided to have scrambled eggs that were cooked
to perfection with the yolk golden mixed in with the pure snow white egg white and flakes of
pepper sprinkled throughout and toast with butter melted onto the crunchy outside making it soft
with homemade strawberry jam spread thick on top. After I had finished my meal I continued
getting ready. In doing so I put on the remainder of my clothes, my sweatshirt and hunting pants
came next followed by my wool socks and winter hunting boots. Next I checked to make sure my
backpack was ready and had all the essentials in it in case something were to happen. Lastly I
grabbed my already loaded sleek black shotgun and put on my heaving winter coat, hats and
gloves. Now I was ready to begin my hunt. Starting out, I was walking slowly down the freshly snow
covered dirt lane in front of my cabin. As I was walking I could hear the crisp

Descriptive Essay About The Zoo
The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed
through the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children
bounded beside me as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing "The
Colorado Zoo." As I walked onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the "habitats." The big, colorful
signs advertising the exotic animals "brought from all over the world!" Animals that were taken
from their home, taken from their habitats, and taken to a world where they are put on display.
Animals who are forced to live out their lives in zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating
ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black bears. Their thick, glistening fur was reflecting
the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of land. Walking back and forth, the bears
footprints could be seen in the dirt as they slowly wove a path into the land. One bear was just lying
around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes, and no pools of water to allow
the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how barren the display was. I
couldn't stop thinking how sad the entire place looked when I compared it to the bears' natural
habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most cases this life
was the only one the bears would ever know. There was just a round prison with limited space, in
which three enormous bears lived. Most bears in the wild are solitary creatures who only come
together for mating season, but here they were forced to spend all day with each other. Forcing
myself to continue, I made my way to the the tigers. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles
every day. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit
the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see
how this was affecting the animals. The tigers' whole body was round and looked like a balloon.
Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll
around on the ground instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how
miserable the tigers looked and

Descriptive Essay About A River
I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water
flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always
on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and
scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must
have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that?
Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the
privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I
remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the
same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color
painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink
clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line
trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others.
Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked
me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my
four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the
river as much as me. Straight

Descriptive Essay On An Island
The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto
the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face.
Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into
one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that
moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my
head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side
already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of
night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded
away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful.
After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got
trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A
series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so
I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was
surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal,
to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it
seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they
were painted on.
I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought
freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged
happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful
sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew
gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach
started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits

Descriptive Essay : My Dream
In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds
filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see
land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so
rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I
will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the
water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them.
Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat
travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink
and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the
distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and
closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large
waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown.
Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an

like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough

These long and tiring procedures made the lifeguards physically tired. The rest of the family
bickered back and forth on whose fault this was. "Why couldn't you just watch her and do what you
were told?" I heard behind me. The father screamed, "It was not my responsibility to do that, it was
yours!" The clear frustration began to build and caused more confusion.
The lifeguards circling around the little girl seemed frightened. Leaning closer to hear the rumors
being spread throughout the crowd, I unintentionally noticed the disturbing sound of gargling from
the little girl. She had regained consciousness, but could not breathe due to the water trapped in her
lungs. Policemen arrived on the beach and began to push back the imaginary boundaries
surrounding the circle of lifeguards. The police advised everyone to leave the beach

Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science
and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will
go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first
thing that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a
set of rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive
grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in
descriptive grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words,
phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show more content...
Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good"
language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar
Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and
teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning
and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view
that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between
what is prescriptively correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different
varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language
learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move
away from a prescriptive approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for
examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive
rules in order to decide if they are useful or

Tips On Writing A Descriptive Essay

  • 1. The Importance Of Descriptive Writing The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to visualize the world that the author wants them to see. Descriptive writing becomes much more valuable, however, when it is used in non–fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death. This was indeed the case with the journals of the early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion of the United States by providing accurate and...show more content... The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be able to compare the party's progress against one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of their own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the amount of ground covered. After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in much pain this evening with the injury one of his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks ankle is also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the party continued to walk for at least 10 miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have died had the water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should recognize this feat and should not compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the party to give the injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of the party were injured, was not necessary to include. • 2. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Myself I find it extremely tough to talk about myself and my personal traits. In order for me to dIscuss who I am in an accurate manner then I must provide some basic background information on myself and talk about the Environment I grew up in. This way people can get a better understanding of why I am the way I am. My Background is so essential In making me myself because If I had been born under any different circumstances or grew up any differently I would be a different person than I am today. I have always grown up in a family that speaks only english so I find it interesting to go over to other people's houses and hear them communicating in another language. On top of all of this meeting different people has also opened my mind to new ideas. For example, in school when we work in group projects we collaborate and communicate with people who think differently than us then work together to figure out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them. Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic circumstances. I have always had access to anything I needed and for that I have extreme gratitude because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a family with such good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities. One Opportunity I had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I did taekwondo until I reached a blackbelt which took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other competitors and break boards in order to continue to move up to the next level. Taekwondo also helped keep me in good shape and fit when I was younger. Another Opportunity I am grateful for is the skill of playing the piano. At first I was not all that enthusiastic about playing it but my parents has signed me up and insisted I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay About My Trip My Trip to Mexico On a nice hot day, my sister and I were in our small room of our apartment. There was clothes all over our white room floor. We were packing up our clothes and getting ready to go to Mexico. Once we left our house we turned off the light from our small room, we looked back and now our small room was dark and empty. All that was left was our bed and my older sister 's clothing. We finally got to the airport. In the airport we met up with my two aunts, named Vicky and Anna. We also met up with our cousin, Katie. We waited hours and hours for the 1st plane to arrive. We got on the first plane like around 10:00 pm, we got off of that plane ride around 1:00 am. We cooked the chicken and ate it with green salsa and beans. "Thank you for this breakfast," I told my aunt. "De nada," said my aunt, Mago. "Go change into your swimming clothes, so we can leave already," said my aunt Anna. Once we headed to the beach we ran straight into the water we put on our goggles and it was so pretty. I saw hermit crabs walking around on the ocean's floor. I was so surprised at how clear I was able to see the sea animals and shells. We got beautiful shells from the seashore. These shells were big and beautiful colors and patterns on them. After 3 hours of being at the beach we went back to my aunt's house. We watched TV the rest of the day and then fell asleep. The next days were similar to the first two, we would eat breakfast, go to the beach, go to stores, come home, eat, watch t.v, and sleep. The last day we went to the beach I was so happy and sad that this was going to be our last time at this beach. While we were getting wet, my sister and cousin got out of the water very fast. "Where are you guys going?" I asked. "There is a sh..sh..sh..shark!" They both yelled. "Where?'' I asked. "It is like fifteen feet away from you" said my cousin, Katie. I turned around and looked. • 5. Descriptive Essay On A Trip The art studies–at–large trip has been a once in a lifetime trip. From a twenty–four hour plane trip with a stop in Chicago and time zone change, it has been an exhausting yet enjoyable time running around with my classmates in the airport. Being in a different country and experiencing a new culture first hand was astonishing and gave me a new outlook of the beauties in the world. From Montone, Florence, Venice, andRome I had the ultimate trip in Italy. The food, language, and culture were different from what I was used to but it was worth the experience. I was not fond of drinking wine with every dinner though the wine was delicious. I had the best pastas, tiramisus, and coffees while I was in Italy. The art was beautiful; it was breathtaking to see how many free artworks was there for the public. After being in Italy for about a month I can see why people are attracted and want to live in Italy. Montone is a beautiful, peaceful, and friendly town. I enjoyed the walk to town, the covenant, Aries CafГ©, the tavern restaurant, and the town's people. I had the best cappuccino and coffee at Aries and I loved every dish I ate at the tavern restaurant. The view from the covenant was beautiful and works perfectly for a painting. Getting around town was easy with everyone being so nice and helpful. The piazza was a great place to hang out because of friendly the environment was and it was the main spot in town where everyone stayed. • 6. Descriptive Writing Essay The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell it. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Descriptive Essay About My First Job My First Job. Or should I say the first instance where I earned a large sum of money for working. It was not that hard only moving a little bit of mulch. But it meant a lot in a different way. I was becoming an adult working hard in return for a few scraps of paper. The paper that makes the world go round. I was earning it through some tough, but short labor. The Work was let's just say cumbersome. It was a warm day in March the sun was blistering hot, heating anything under it like an oven. While a bitter cold breeze blew all the heat away. Except in my case, wearing storm, including wind resistant pants and a shirt that trapped that heat right in. Let's just say I was sweating in a few minutes. I hate my thick Wisconsin blood. The heat would have not been that bad if my face and hands weren't rosy from the chill. The job was tough but I was growing up. I quickly grew calluses on my hands and had dirt in my pores. There were scratches on my arms and pine needles down my neck. I was starting to look like a man. I was starting to become like my dad. Hands callused and skin tough and thick like leather. The palms rough with wear. I was only beginning. Hands soft, muscles strong, but not hardened, built for work. This was only the beginning. Ever hour or so another muscle group would get sore. Before long everything hurt. But I knew it would all be worth it in the end. Every adult worked and I could too, the money was worth it. Soon that was all that filled my mind the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

From keeping me safe to play childish games, he is always there to guide me. Although his overloaded job keeps him at station for an eternity, he quickly maneuvers through the overwhelming pile of work, and somehow still finds time to help me study for a test, help me finish my homework, and play games with me. When a monstrous test is charging at me with all of its might, he uses his brilliant mind to swiftly teach me how to defeat the test with a triumphant score. Then comes the period of activity, the hardest part of his day, the part where he almost always quits and leaves: the workout. With a determination to become physically fit, he bolts up the rigid stairs, charging into his closet to get dressed into his navy baggy sweatpants and his neon yellow t–shirt; then races down to the basement like it's the end of the world. The Xbox sits idle while the fitness game eagerly waits to be played. He fires up the Xbox and starts on his 1–hour journey to absolutely destroy the computer in tennis. Following his crushing victory over the weak computer in tennis, I wandered to the basement in hopes of escaping my dreadful homework, only to be absolutely flabbergasted by the number of experience points he has gained on the game. • 11. Descriptive Essay A cool breeze blew across my face as I lie on the the white leather seats of my family's new boat. The water sloshes around rocking me back and forth ever so gently. I turn my head away from the gleaming sun straight above as it starts to sting my eyes. My furry black labrador retriever comes up and puts her nose right next to my face so I can feel her breath. I reach out and touch her velvety ears as she begins to lay down hoping for a belly rub. I hear my sisters laugh as her and her friend jump into the deep blue lake making drops of water spray up which lightly land on my skin. I sit up and rest my chin on the top of the seat and peer down into the water watching them swim about. Their legs are barely visible under the dusky water; their matching striped bathing suits were still visible. It reminded me of a scene in a watercolor painting, each color so vivid in the shimmer sun. My sister playfully splashed her friend as they swam in circles screaming and laughing. I turned around sitting flat of the chair and slipped my flip flops, my thighs stuck to the hot seat as I stood up in the humid air before walking to the back of the boat. I layed down a blue and white striped beach towel on the damped ground and proceeded to sit down. I dipped my feet into the dark waters and watched as they seemed to disappear. The top part of the water was warm and comfortable, but as I slid my legs in farther, it got unbearably cold. The tips of my toes touched a part of seaweed and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Hunt Descriptive Writing Waking up before the rising sun on the morning of the hunt left me feeling groggy with my eyes slow to open and close when blinking. Being extra quiet to not wake up my mother was a main challenge, trying to tippy toe around the cabin and dodging the creaky spots in the floor. Prior to eating breakfast, I began getting dressed. Due to the fact that I was in northern Minnesota, the weather was bone chilling and the wind would seep right through your layers onto your unexpecting skin. Once I had put on my long johns, sweatpants, and long sleeve shirt with a tee shirt on top I began to make my breakfast. I had decided to have scrambled eggs that were cooked to perfection with the yolk golden mixed in with the pure snow white egg white and flakes of pepper sprinkled throughout and toast with butter melted onto the crunchy outside making it soft with homemade strawberry jam spread thick on top. After I had finished my meal I continued getting ready. In doing so I put on the remainder of my clothes, my sweatshirt and hunting pants came next followed by my wool socks and winter hunting boots. Next I checked to make sure my backpack was ready and had all the essentials in it in case something were to happen. Lastly I grabbed my already loaded sleek black shotgun and put on my heaving winter coat, hats and gloves. Now I was ready to begin my hunt. Starting out, I was walking slowly down the freshly snow covered dirt lane in front of my cabin. As I was walking I could hear the crisp Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Descriptive Essay About The Zoo The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed through the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children bounded beside me as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing "The Colorado Zoo." As I walked onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the "habitats." The big, colorful signs advertising the exotic animals "brought from all over the world!" Animals that were taken from their home, taken from their habitats, and taken to a world where they are put on display. Animals who are forced to live out their lives in zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black bears. Their thick, glistening fur was reflecting the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of land. Walking back and forth, the bears footprints could be seen in the dirt as they slowly wove a path into the land. One bear was just lying around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes, and no pools of water to allow the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how barren the display was. I couldn't stop thinking how sad the entire place looked when I compared it to the bears' natural habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most cases this life was the only one the bears would ever know. There was just a round prison with limited space, in which three enormous bears lived. Most bears in the wild are solitary creatures who only come together for mating season, but here they were forced to spend all day with each other. Forcing myself to continue, I made my way to the the tigers. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles every day. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see how this was affecting the animals. The tigers' whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how miserable the tigers looked and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Descriptive Essay On The Glass Glass rings The wallpaper glistens as the sun shines through, reflecting against the wall brightening the room. I can hear the leaves whisper, whispering to escape. I sit on my large, soft bed, where hidden under the blankets are a memorial of dark memories that call me in my sleep. I look at the vase, by the side of the window, it glares at me, and its menacing shadows allures my eyes to look at the details of sadness imprinted on itself. Flowers that arch downwards point towards the clutches as its stands by the door waiting for me. I crawl to the door handle to grab the clutches. He didn't speak, but he looked skinny, he held a bunch of pears in his bag that he must have stolen. I didn't care as much. As he didn't care either. He looked at me awkwardly "Evan Lin, wanna pear". Soon on, he became my first ever friend. *** It is morning once again, I get out of bed finally for once, not waking up to the sounds of my father's frustration. I sit on the floor, looking at the same morning I see every day. I start hearing shuffling noises coming from under the bed. I look hesitantly for a weapon, but a face from under my bed strikes me in fear. Crawling back, ready to scream, just as I open my mouth and inhale. It jumps at me like a tiger, I shut my eyes. I wait a while; I take a peek, it's Evan, how did he sneak into my room. I feel relief flush through me, I push him off, out of breath as I feel something uncomfortable hit my ankle. • 15. Descriptive Essay I could still hear the whispers as the police dragged my lifeless body to the squad car. My eyes were shut, but I could feel two dozen eyes glued on me. The image stayed in my mind until the images were no more. I was finally at peace. A sensation of bliss and freedom swept over me quicker than ever. Everything was swirling down the drain. Nefas, the parties, the flashes, the buzzing, everything. They said that New York was the place of opportunities, but for me, it was a place of bad decisions. It'll be over soon. пЃ®пЃ®пЃ® "Nice shot dude!" I opened my eyes and I saw the ping pong ball bobbing in a fish tank, "See, I told you that you could make a shot with your eyes closed." I held onto the fish tank with pride, and inside the tank was the most beautiful fish. When it spun around its dirty tank, the sunlight hit every iridescent scale with precision. It matched the colors in my room perfectly. It was a match made in heaven. I got what I wanted, and now I wanted to leave this carnival. Slimy food covered every inch of the place and hand sanitizer was nowhere to be found. I ran past the gate with the fish tank splashing all over my forearm. After I found my car in the endless parking lot, my fish and I were homeward bound. I was speeding down the highway and the music was bumping. As I sang the first few notes to an early 2000s ballad, it spoke. "Dost thou know it's a fowl thing to speed in an automobile?" I jumped and swerved three lanes to the right. I choked on my spit, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Descriptive Essay About A River I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that? Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others. Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the river as much as me. Straight Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Descriptive Essay On An Island The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful. After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal, to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on. I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay : My Dream In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Descriptive Essay About Vacation Max Mudger Mrs. Oncu DE 11 30 October 2017 Narrative Essay The air was filled with salt and warm sunlight. The waves were crashing against the Hawaiian sand causing a beautiful and relaxing sound. With flapping wings and squawking noises, seagulls were stalking tourists in the search of food. The soft, hot sand was soothing to the touch. The palm trees danced in the swaying wind and the aroma of distant barbecues and sunscreen wafted in the air. As a native Floridian, the thought of a Hawaiian vacation was appealing. Hours of waiting began to accumulate when I was informed that my flight to Hawaii had been rescheduled. Crowds of people began to funnel in to this one location on the beach. I imagined that an animal had washed up on the shore and could not get back into the water. My curiosity grew, and I left my chair to follow the path of everyone else down the shoreline. Upon reaching the scene, I became aware of what happened. I stared down at a little girl who was lying face up and was unresponsive to family members calling her name. It was evident that she had drowned and was on the edge of death. Life guards began to pound on her chest and start chest compulsions. She continued to stay motionless. Quickly, lifeguards began the operations of CPR. These long and tiring procedures made the lifeguards physically tired. The rest of the family bickered back and forth on whose fault this was. "Why couldn't you just watch her and do what you were told?" I heard behind me. The father screamed, "It was not my responsibility to do that, it was yours!" The clear frustration began to build and caused more confusion. The lifeguards circling around the little girl seemed frightened. Leaning closer to hear the rumors being spread throughout the crowd, I unintentionally noticed the disturbing sound of gargling from the little girl. She had regained consciousness, but could not breathe due to the water trapped in her lungs. Policemen arrived on the beach and began to push back the imaginary boundaries surrounding the circle of lifeguards. The police advised everyone to leave the beach Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show more content... Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
