Information literacy is no longer an option, it is a form of currency in the 21st century, and it is independence in the 21st century. As an Adult Services Librarian my daily duties involve helping "digital immigrants" find a small modicum of independence in a world inundated by technology. Whether it is looking for a book or applying for a job it is now the standard in public library service. I teach classes that range from using the new online card catalog to setting up an email account. I show people how to access, use and evaluate electronic databases I help people use their newly acquired devices ( e-readers, smartphones, laptops) I help people alleviate the fear of technology.
