  1. Content is created, processed and accessed by everyone enterprise-wide. And organizations are beginning to include ECM technology as a part of their existing shared service model to allocate the cost of content to different departments and divisions. This enables them to better manage and reduce overall costs by reusing customizations and processes as well as concentrating skill-sets. Additionally, with a shared service model, IT organizations can ensure consistent policies & services regarding up-time & SLAs, system and content back-up and recovery, application of retention policies, security policies and patches uniformly. Oracle’s approach – simple, smart and scalable content infrastructure Central location to manage (from creation and updates to retention and disposition), secure, apply structure & intelligence, make content easy to find and share Simple Pre-integrated with storage, middleware and applications – Oracle as well as third party Easy administration – single product for ECM (single install, centralized monitoring, etc.) Smart Built in feature set for ensuring security for your information assets as well as policy management across content (how long do you retain, when should you destroy, etc.) As well as ability to leverage Oracle DB functionality for content. Manage content smarter with de-duplication, compression, encryption. Scalable   With an extremely high performance, flexible foundation that can easily ingest billions of items, support millions of users and grow with the organization by adding new structure and features over time.
  2. Enterprise applications, such as ERP or CRM systems, help manage the flow of data (service request, invoice details, expense amounts, employee information, etc.) throughout a process. However, when business users interact with their enterprise applications, content often times starts the process, is attached to the process for reference, or is the end-result of a process. Yet, content is typically disconnected from the user, process or other systems – making it more difficult to reuse, access, share, secure, and audit the information. Oracle Content Management provides a complete and integrated solution that can easily back-end existing applications and provide immediate access to managed content directly from the application. The combined solution helps to streamline operations, reduce shipping & storage costs, and ease collaboration and communication – while maximizing your IT investment. Additionally, with Oracle’s open architecture, the integration framework can be used with third party applications. For IT and C-level, Oracle Enterprise Application Documents provides the ability to simplify IT infrastructure, maximize existing investment, and have the peace of mind of knowing that they’ve made a strategic investment to support application content. With a centralized ECM platform to content-enable all apps, IT can use a shared services model to integrate content within a wide array of apps to meet specific use cases, but centralize the administration. So, it no longer needs to worry about integrating and managing a variety of point solutions that integrate with departmental apps, which add system complexity and make it difficult to strategically plan long term for infrastructure expansion. Oracle’s Enterprise Application Documents approach offers an end-to-end, single vendor solution for applications, content management, and process automation, simplifying vendor maintenance and support, and providing the knowledge that they’re well set up for Fusion Applications and Applications Unlimited, with Oracle ECM providing the content engine for those releases.
  3. Whether you’ve established a content infrastructure and you’re ready to build solutions on top; or if you have tactical needs to solve specific business problems, Oracle Content Management provides out of the box applications and a feature-rich foundation to meet your needs. Why Build Content Centric Apps on a unified content infrastructure foundation/ Until recently many organizations adopted content management tactically by solving a discrete business problem with specific targeted solutions at a departmental or business unit level. While that is been effective there is an emerging trend to look at a broader strategic vision and ensure that solutions blend into a the enterprise infrastructure to better leverage these assets and improve how they are managed throughout their lifecycle. For example, a company’s marketing department will leverage a content management solution to manage the digital assets and web content across their global web site presence in order to drive revenue. That content will be created by many departments and could include product information, manuals, customer service information, and customer relationship information all related together with a need to control how it’s accessed, retained and managed. The objective therefore is to provide these content-centric solutions that enable broad adoption yet easily solve immediate problems organizations are experiencing.
  4. Unified content repository across ECM – one single content platform (I/PM, UCM & URM all run on top of the Oracle Content Server) URM - fully certified against all part of the US Department of Defense records management standard – baseline, classified, and Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.  (DoD5015.2 v. 3) Enables Federal, state / local gov private companies maintain regulated compliance IRM - we've added it in, so it's just another feature of ECM Suite. It does not require additional licensing to use. Seal - Encrypt - Prevent unauthorized users to view, change, print. Can also revoke. Storage – Oracle DB, Sun SAM – continued 3 rd party hot-pluggable support Discuss interesting new FMW 11g integrations with ECM Security - Oracle Internet Directory (OID), Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD); Sun Java System, Oracle Single Sign On (OSSO), Oracle Access Management (OAM) Enterprise Management & Development Tools Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) (Note: Grid Control 11g not released yet, when it does we’ll certify on it) – many call it a FMW dashboard or EM dashboard/plug-in (this is shipped with every FMW product and installed with every product free of charge). True “Enterprise Mgr” is done by module Grid Control (we’re not certified on 10g). Jdeveloper SOA & BPM Oracle Web Services Manager (OWSM) Oracle Service Bus BPM Suite Application Grid Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) Oracle WebLogic Scripting Tools (WLST) Jrockit Business Intelligence BI Publisher for RM reports Portals & Content & Collaboration Beehive & Content Database (via Desktop integration support with WebDAV Servers)
  5. Next generation desktop integrations New MS Office integration with menus to access managed content, insert managed links, and compare managed documents using standard MS Office reviewing tools Automatic identity tagging of documents on download – to help users understand which versions they are viewing and prevent duplicate content items in the content repository.
  6. Next generation desktop integrations New “smart productivity folders” to show you your workflow inbox, saved searches and checked out content directly from Windows Explorer Drag and drop metadata pop-ups Brings ability to check in/out for all file formats with any standard WebDAV server (such as Beehive and integrates with Oracle Content DB).
  7. Updated Certified Application Integrations Bringing content management directly to business users from the enterprise applications they’re used to working with, such as EBS Tying in content directly into existing business processes (i.e. when someone is submitting receipts for an expense report or invoice for A/P). High volume document processing Automating paper-based processes Accounts payable automation, time & expense management, order management Provide imaging, capture, forms recognition and workflow
  8. Updated Certified Application Integrations Bringing content management directly to business users from the enterprise applications they’re used to working with, such as EBS Ad-hoc attachments - easily add documents, graphics, photos, scanned documents to an object (such as an employee) into the app Replace native document stores Enterprise class scalability and functionality Application content reuse “ Quick scan” document capture
  9. Updated Certified Application Integrations Bringing content management directly to business users from the enterprise applications they’re used to working with, such as Siebel Ad-hoc attachments - easily add documents, graphics, photos, scanned documents to an object (i.e. case worker in the CRM system) Replace native document stores Enterprise class scalability and functionality Application content reuse “ Quick scan” document capture
  10. Oracle URM 11g makes records management easier for both business users and records administrators.  Simplifications in the end user experience allow the creation of bookmarks into often-used part of the file plan, easy copying of categories and dispositions, and integrated folder and records search.  The records management dashboard provides a consolidated view into records administrator tasks and system performance.
  11. For content management applications depending on the use case – the feature requirements (check-in speeds, search index and query speeds, content conversion and Web page delivery) and characteristics can be quite different. With 11g, we unified our repository so that I/PM, UCM & URM all run using the same repository services (Content Server). We also added in new features so that a single system can be tuned for both high volume content ingestion as well as for high performance Web sites where high volume access and page delivery is critical. 11g offers configurable fast check in services – that trigger the high volume ingestion features. It can be turned on for the entire repository for example if you plan to just run I/PM on top or support a claims processing application. Or it can be triggered per content item (during the check in/ upload process with a flag). Oracle also performed rigorous performance testing on the 11g platform and took performance to the next level doing some tests on commodity hardware as well as a combined Oracle UCM + Sun Oracle Database Machine. We saw ingestion speeds for simply a two node UCM server on commodity hardware paired with a Sun Oracle DB Machine Half Rack Hardware – we were getting 179 million documents / day. A whitepaper with more information can be found online.
