A poem I wrote a very, very, very long time ago about a child who is a victim of landmines. I think, the theme is still very relevant today. ENJOY!

1. Prayer Of A Child
(Who Is A Victim Of Landmines)
It was not so long ago,
That I went to school
With my friends,
Played from dawn to dusk
With my brothers and sisters,
Helped my father
To work his fields
Or ran errands, for my mother.
It seemed like yesterday
I made that kite (My pride and joy)
I ran through the meadow
Trying to fly it.
And BANG!
It still returns to haunt me.
When I woke up
The world was blurred to me.
Then little by little,
My mothers’ face, tear-strained,
My fathers’, hopeless,
My brothers’ and sisters’, aghast and sad,
My friends’, horror-stricken.
No explanation was needed
I knew, when I couldn’t find my legs.
Please God! Take away
These equipment
Fashioned in the devils’ workshop
Called landmines.
Don’t put a full-stop
To anyone’s life
Like mine.
Amen.
