2. Digipak Conventions
● A digipak is the packaging of a CD.
● The conventions of a digipak are;
Album title
Artist name
Artist logo
CD with the design on it
Lyric booklet, however not all artists include lyrics in the booklet and therefore may just be some
comments from the artist, and/or may include pictures of the artist
● For our ancillary task, we will use these conventions as all the other artists that I have looked at have
included all or most of the conventions used above and therefore if we do too, our ancillary task will look
highly professional.
3. Ariana Grade My Everything Digipak
● The album work on the front of
the album is very simple yet
affective as it is just Ariana,
however it goes well as it is very
girly as it has a pink background.
This suits the genre of music that
she represents, which is pop/RnB
as the image of her is in black and
white, which are very RnB colours
and then the pink for pop.
● The back of the album is also very simple, as it continues to use the colour pink.
The writing for the track list on the back is in black, which is affective as the
outfit that Ariana is wearing on the front is in black, therefore the album artwork
clearly has a colour theme. It looks very simple and classic, which is what
Ariana's personality is like in real life, she really likes the classical look and is
always wearing the classical look eyeliner.
● Also on the back of her album is the barcode, which is what every album needs
so that people can buy it. We should use this on our album as it looks very
professional, even though our album is not real, we want our digipak to look as
real and professional as possible.
4. ● The CD on the inside of the
digipak, is a picture from her
single problem, which was
the 1st single from her new
album, which was very
successful. The Cd is very
basic, as again it goes with
the colour scheme. I think
that using a colour scheme
for our digipak will be
affective as it will relate to
the genre that we choose,
however that depends on the
colours that we want to use.
● Not much has changed for the inside of Ariana Grande's digipak either as
once again the colour scheme is pink. This looks like a very plain album
digipak, so maybe we will make ours more interesting. It will be nice to
have some sort of image inside the album cover as well, whereas Ariana has
not done that with hers. Considering her target audience is teenage girls, she
hasn't really made the album cover for teenagers. It is very classical and
looks like it could be targeted at grandparents who like classical music. The
picture of her at the front of the album is very provocative, and that is how
we know it is aimed at a younger audience, more so teenage girls who have
liked Ariana even before her singing career.
5. Rihanna Loud Digipak
● The art work for Rihanna's Loud album, is very
red. This is because she had red hair, and
therefore in this stage of her career decided to
make her albums colour theme as red. Red is
more of a colour related to urban R n B/pop
artists, and this is what Rihanna is, therefore
she has chosen a colour theme best suited to
her genre.
● On the inside of the album, we can see that once again, it is filled with the colour red, she
has even chosen a rose as the image on her CD. There is also loads of pictures of Rihanna
throughout the digipak. Also, the Rihanna logo has been used on this album, which is where
the R is shaped differently, this is a significant part of her album, as it establishes an
importance to all her other albums but to also the people who buy it, because as soon as you
see the log, you instantly know who it is.
6. Lady Gaga Artpop Digipak
● Firstly, we can establish
that Lady Gaga's genre
for this album is pop, as
her album name is called
Artpop. The art side to
her album is that on the
cover, she has different
artistic images behind
her. Also, throughout the
album and its artwork, it
tries to be artistic and

known to be quite outrageous and this definatly shows throughout the
digipak. Therefore, we have to make sure that for our digipak, that
the art work is related to the character of the artist and also the genre
of the artist.
7. ● On the inside of the digipak,
the outrageous artwork has
calmed down. We can see
that on one side, there is the
tracklist of the album, which
is written in pink and has a
plain background of white,
which is affective as it would
have been too much.
● On the side where the CD is, there is a sort of optical illusion on
the CD and the cover behind it, which is once again creative.
There is also the image of lady Gaga, which is also on the front
of the album.
8. Sam Smith The Lonely hour Digipak
● Sam Smith's album cover is very
dark, and actually looks quite sad.
The affect of him looking lonely is
interesting, as his songs are quite
sad, his image is that he's a man
who has deep feelings and also, his
album effectily is called the lonely
hour.
The colour scheme therefore links to his
personality as an artist, but also of his genre. His
genre would be soul R n B. His lyrics have deep
meanings.
