Risk factors of binge eating disorder
1. Risk Factors of Binge Eating Disorder
Binge eating disorder includes periods of
uncontrollable and excessive overeating. But a
person that has this type of eating disorder does not
consequently bring on purging like in the case of
bulimia. Binge eating may occur on its own or along
with other conditions or disorders. It may trigger the
development of high blood pressure, heart disease,
obesity and diabetes. The options for treating binge
eating disorder will depend on what causes a person
to binge eat.
An individual that has binge eating disorder tends to
feel compelled to eat more than what they need.
They consume massive amounts of food even if they
are not hungry. They believe they do not have
control over their eating. After eating, a binge eater feels ashamed, guilty or disgusted. This
feeling may create an underlying problem like depression or anxiety and this can cause or
aggravate the disorder.
In most parts of the world, binge eating disorder is not regarded a distinctive condition. But it is
basically the most common of all types of eating disorders. Risk factors are something that may
increase the chances of developing a disease or condition. For instance, obesity can greatly
increase the risks of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The risk factors of binge eating disorder include age, dieting, other eating disorders, sexual
abuse and expectation of society, psychological problems and the biological vulnerability of a
person.
A symptom of binge eating disorder is something that is felt and reported by the patient while
signs are those that the doctor or other people detect. When a person has a binge eating
disorder, he or she can be considered a compulsive eater and they often binge by eating
extremely huge amounts of food. Many cases of this disorder do not have clear symptoms or
signs. The main sign is weight gain. A huge percentage of individuals with binge eating disorder
are grossly overweight. Being overweight or obese can carry some serious risks to health like
diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and some cancers.
If someone you know suffers from binge eating disorder or other forms of addiction such as
pain killer addiction, it is important for immediate treatment to be offered to prevent
aggravating the problem.
