CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1. Preamble
Briefly discuss the reason why this study was performed including where, what, when,
how. Also state the reason why you selected this organization for this project. Mention all
this as part of integral course requirement for the fulfillment of Masters Degree in
Hospitality at NATHM, in affiliation with Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan
University.

1.2. Objectives of the Study
Briefly specify the main purpose of conducting this study, what does the study intend to
do more specifically? You may organize it in the form of main objective – general
objective and specific objectives.

1.3. Statement of the Problem
Explain the key missing link, or a broad query that insisted you to perform this project
study in particular organization and specific department you have chosen. You may also
base it with an important incident, or your objective in life and here you may find such an
exposure as a platform to help yourself to move ahead in executing your professional
objective.

1.4. Scope of Works
Briefly explain the functional coverage, your professional involvement, resources used,
and responsibilities fulfilled while working as an Intern in the said organization. Also
reveal the extent and nature of supervision received.

1.5. Significance of the Study
Establish the academic relevance of this journey. Also briefly discuss how or to what
extent this study would serve instrumental to the management in the organization of
study, and other stakeholders. Do not forget to establish the relevance of such an
experience in transforming professional functionalism in you as a learner of hospitality
management and also reveal how such a study opportunity may serve instrumental in
building up your academic as well as managerial confidence.

1.6. Organization of the Study Report
Prepare in a single paragraph by briefly explaining the chapter-wise key contents of the
internship project study report.

For example,
This report has been developed in five distinctive chapters. First chapter establishes the
introduction of the internship project study, followed by detailed information about the
organization providing internship project study in the second chapter. The third chapter
presents with the methodological perspectives applied in executing this project study.
Detailed organizational and problem diagnoses have been presented in the fourth
chapter of the study report. Finally, on the basis of overall study and personal
observation, relevant summary, conclusions, lessons learnt, and recommendations have
been produced in the fifth chapter as the final section of the study report.

PROFILE OF THE INSTITUTION PROVIDING OPPORTUNITY FOR
INTERNSHIP PROJECT STUDY

2.1. Introduction
Briefly introduce the institution by presenting the gist of information about its incubation,
key promoters, year of inception, location or geographic networks of coverage, its
mission, vision, goals, objectives, value system, working principles and priorities,
organization structure and design, corporate governance, strategic partnership, etc. This is
not a confined coverage for it.

2.2. Department/Functional Areas of Study
Discuss in detail the functional department/s experienced, job rotations done, interdepartmental experiences achieved, etc. Also describe what supervisory support you
received.

2.3. Resource Exposure Received
Discuss what resource usage privilege you received while working in this organization.

2.4. Responsibilities Executed
Discuss with examples the various jobs performed, responsibilities accomplished and
achievements made so far.

2.5. Organizational Structural Design
Discuss with examples the different functional departments the organization operates
with.

2.6. Organizational Governance System
Briefly explain the executive bodies of the organization and the people on the lead role of
the institution.

2.7. Organizational Business Areas/Service Coverage
Briefly explain the different business/service specializations opted by the firm.

Note: In this chapter, most of the things will come through review of literature about the
organization of your Internship Project involvement. So, use proper text citation and
referencing using APA style guidelines given by me. It may require a few sessions for
learning how to perform such works.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY OF PROJECT STUDY

3.1. Working Approaches Applied
Explain how you worked during your Internship deputation period in this organization;
your daily work schedule, operational procedures, reporting, etc. Also explain what
methodological approaches you adopted – what blend of exploratory, descriptive, or
causal study designs were used.

3.2. Mechanism for Study Supervision and Monitoring
Elaborate the way how your performance was supervised and monitored, and who did so,
how was the overall support received. Also explain if there was any monitoring,
supervision and reporting schedule applied. How did such a mechanism contribute for
better learning and transforming job relevant skills.

3.3. Study Tools and Techniques Applied
Discuss with examples the different forms and formats used to perform this experiential
study, diary, log books, checklists, and so on? Also discuss about the survey tools if any
applicable.

3.4. Ethical Considerations Taken into Account
Explain with examples, what are the different ethical concerns faced during this study
and how you could manage such dilemmatic situations by complying with respective
concerns. Try to limit such considerations from the perspectives of junior staff that you
supervized, your coworkers, senior members, customers of the organization, and finally
requirements of the university.

3.5. Work Schedule
Develop a self-explanatory Gantt Chart showing the activities and timelines of task
accomplishment. Prepare it for about 8-12 weeks.

DIAGNOSIS OF ORGANIZATIONAL EXPERIENCE

4.1. Situational Analyses
Briefly analyze the external and internal environment in which your Internship Project
located organization operates. Closely diagnose the nature and extent of driving and
restricting forces for and against the institution.

4.2. Functional Structural System
Closely diagnose the pros, cons, merits and demerits of the functional, structural system
of the organization of your project study. Also discuss the areas of business/service
specializations of the institution along with their merits and demerits.

4.3. Strategic Analyses
In this part, develop it in a number of sections that should chronologically present a
detailed diagnosis on firm’s strategic thrusts (mission, vision, goals, objectives, principles
and priorities). You may revisit the existing elements and establish new elements for the
firm if any of them are not yet addressed.

Perform external environment analyses including customer analyses, competitor analyses,
market analyses, and macro-environmental analyses. Extraction of market opportunities,
threats and strategic uncertainties should be the end-results of such analyses. The final
output of such analyses should take up the shape of tangible opportunities, threats, and
uncertainties.
Additionally, in the third section of strategic analyses, support it by analyzing the firm’s
performance from various dimensions. Afterwards, add it with analyses of strategic
options. The outcomes of internal analyses have to come in the shape of selected
strengths, weaknesses and strategic constraints of the firm.

By all means, you should be in position to establish a well-diagnosed SWOT analyses of
the firm by now.

4.4. Functional Diagnosis
Here, using your subjective and objective means of evaluations, produce a detailed
account of all business/service functions of the organization. Also try to figure out
specific competencies, benchmarks achieved by the firm. Analyze the firm’s functional
strengths, competencies and resourcefulness to execute various functions and businesses.

4.5. Critical Problems Experienced
Among the various functional aspects worked and experienced while working in this
organization, please try to figure out a few more critical, but important problem areas and
go for depth analyses of causes and consequences of such problems. Try to relate such
problems with a few international cases.

4.6. Key Success Factors Identified
On the basis of your overall chronological assessment of various aspects of the firm, try
to figure out a few (2-3) KSFs of the firm and try to establish a linkage of getting benefits
of these success factors.

4.7. General Remarks
Finally, produce a more comprehensive picture of the firm summarizing your general
observation, experience and subjective and objective analyses of the various functional
areas of the firm.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1. Summary of the Study
Recap the overall project study, its nature, depth of coverage, overall methodological
aspects involved, learning experiences gained, innovative ideas applied, etc.

5.2. Key Findings of the Study
On the basis of overall observation and learning by means of functional exposure,
produce a to-the-point list of key findings of the study. Such findings should be more
confined towards your major area of job involvement while working as an Intern in this
organization.

5.3. Discussions
Try to figure out 2-3 such functional mechanism or professional behaviors that tend to
contradict with the universal conceptual perspectives, or guiding principles or generally
accepted institutional value systems.

5.4. Conclusions
On the basis of this overall study, what argument do you make now in a nutshell? Or,
what do you claim now? Discuss it in the form of key punch notes; make a final claim on
the basis of this study. Remember, here you have to try to eliminate the negative things
and come up with a solid understanding about this organization and its success, which
you think is worth learning for rest of others.

5.5. Lessons Learnt
Try to figure out 2-3 important lessons learnt for transforming your life-long learning for
professional career.

5.6. Recommendations for Managerial Implications
Produce a few SMART recommendations for the firm to take into account of policy,
strategic and functional review.

  • 1. DE-LA ANNAPURNA: STANDS FOR QUALITY HOSPITALITY SERVICES CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. Preamble Briefly discuss the reason why this study was performed including where, what, when, how. Also state the reason why you selected this organization for this project. Mention all this as part of integral course requirement for the fulfillment of Masters Degree in Hospitality at NATHM, in affiliation with Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University. 1.2. Objectives of the Study Briefly specify the main purpose of conducting this study, what does the study intend to do more specifically? You may organize it in the form of main objective – general objective and specific objectives. 1.3. Statement of the Problem Explain the key missing link, or a broad query that insisted you to perform this project study in particular organization and specific department you have chosen. You may also base it with an important incident, or your objective in life and here you may find such an exposure as a platform to help yourself to move ahead in executing your professional objective. 1.4. Scope of Works Briefly explain the functional coverage, your professional involvement, resources used, and responsibilities fulfilled while working as an Intern in the said organization. Also briefly discuss how or to what extent this study would serve instrumental to the management in the organization of study, and other stakeholders. Do not forget to establish the relevance of such an experience in transforming professional functionalism in you as a learner of hospitality management and also reveal how such a study opportunity may serve instrumental in building up your academic as well as managerial confidence. 1.6. Organization of the Study Report Prepare in a single paragraph by briefly explaining the chapter-wise key contents of the internship project study report. For example, This report has been developed in five distinctive chapters. First chapter establishes the introduction of the internship project study, followed by detailed information about the organization providing internship project study in the second chapter. The third chapter presents with the methodological perspectives applied in executing this project study. Detailed organizational and problem diagnoses have been presented in the fourth chapter of the study report. Finally, on the basis of overall study and personal observation, relevant summary, conclusions, lessons learnt, and recommendations have been produced in the fifth chapter as the final section of the study report. Introduction Briefly introduce the institution by presenting the gist of information about its incubation, key promoters, year of inception, location or geographic networks of coverage, its mission, vision, goals, objectives, value system, working principles and priorities, organization structure and design, corporate governance, strategic partnership, etc. This is not a confined coverage for it. 2.2. Department/Functional Areas of Study Discuss in detail the functional department/s experienced, job rotations done, interdepartmental experiences achieved, etc. Also describe what supervisory support you received. 2.3. Resource Exposure Received Discuss what resource usage privilege you received while working in this organization. 2.4. Responsibilities Executed Discuss with examples the various jobs performed, responsibilities accomplished and achievements made so far. 2.5. Organizational Structural Design Discuss with examples the different functional departments the organization operates with. 2.6. Organizational Governance System Briefly explain the executive bodies of the organization and the people on the lead role of the institution. Note: In this chapter, most of the things will come through review of literature about the organization of your Internship Project involvement. So, use proper text citation and referencing using APA style guidelines given by me. It may require a few sessions for learning how to perform such works.   • 5. CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY OF PROJECT STUDY 3.1. Working Approaches Applied Explain how you worked during your Internship deputation period in this organization; your daily work schedule, operational procedures, reporting, etc. Also explain what methodological approaches you adopted – what blend of exploratory, descriptive, or causal study designs were used. 3.2. Mechanism for Study Supervision and Monitoring Elaborate the way how your performance was supervised and monitored, and who did so, how was the overall support received. Also explain if there was any monitoring, supervision and reporting schedule applied. How did such a mechanism contribute for better learning and transforming job relevant skills. 3.3. Study Tools and Techniques Applied Discuss with examples the different forms and formats used to perform this experiential study, diary, log books, checklists, and so on? Also discuss about the survey tools if any applicable. 3.4. Ethical Considerations Taken into Account Explain with examples, what are the different ethical concerns faced during this study and how you could manage such dilemmatic situations by complying with respective concerns. Try to limit such considerations from the perspectives of junior staff that you supervized, your coworkers, senior members, customers of the organization, and finally requirements of the university. 3.5. Work Schedule Develop a self-explanatory Gantt Chart showing the activities and timelines of task accomplishment. Prepare it for about 8-12 weeks.   • 7. CHAPTER 4 DIAGNOSIS OF ORGANIZATIONAL EXPERIENCE 4.1. Situational Analyses Briefly analyze the external and internal environment in which your Internship Project located organization operates. Closely diagnose the nature and extent of driving and restricting forces for and against the institution. 4.2. Functional Structural System Closely diagnose the pros, cons, merits and demerits of the functional, structural system of the organization of your project study. Also discuss the areas of business/service specializations of the institution along with their merits and demerits. 4.3. Strategic Analyses In this part, develop it in a number of sections that should chronologically present a detailed diagnosis on firm’s strategic thrusts (mission, vision, goals, objectives, principles and priorities). You may revisit the existing elements and establish new elements for the firm if any of them are not yet addressed. Perform external environment analyses including customer analyses, competitor analyses, market analyses, and macro-environmental analyses. Extraction of market opportunities, threats and strategic uncertainties should be the end-results of such analyses. The final output of such analyses should take up the shape of tangible opportunities, threats, and uncertainties. Additionally, in the third section of strategic analyses, support it by analyzing the firm’s performance from various dimensions. Afterwards, add it with analyses of strategic options.   • 8. By all means, you should be in position to establish a well-diagnosed SWOT analyses of the firm by now. Functional Diagnosis Here, using your subjective and objective means of evaluations, produce a detailed account of all business/service functions of the organization. Also try to figure out specific competencies, benchmarks achieved by the firm. Analyze the firm’s functional strengths, competencies and resourcefulness to execute various functions and businesses. 4.5. Critical Problems Experienced Among the various functional aspects worked and experienced while working in this organization, please try to figure out a few more critical, but important problem areas and go for depth analyses of causes and consequences of such problems. Try to relate such problems with a few international cases. 4.6. Key Success Factors Identified On the basis of your overall chronological assessment of various aspects of the firm, try to figure out a few (2-3) KSFs of the firm and try to establish a linkage of getting benefits of these success factors. 4.7. General Remarks Finally, produce a more comprehensive picture of the firm summarizing your general observation, experience and subjective and objective analyses of the various functional areas of the firm. Summary of the Study Recap the overall project study, its nature, depth of coverage, overall methodological aspects involved, learning experiences gained, innovative ideas applied, etc. 5.2. Key Findings of the Study On the basis of overall observation and learning by means of functional exposure, produce a to-the-point list of key findings of the study. Such findings should be more confined towards your major area of job involvement while working as an Intern in this organization. 5.3. Discussions Try to figure out 2-3 such functional mechanism or professional behaviors that tend to contradict with the universal conceptual perspectives, or guiding principles or generally accepted institutional value systems. 5.4. Conclusions On the basis of this overall study, what argument do you make now in a nutshell? Or, what do you claim now? Discuss it in the form of key punch notes; make a final claim on the basis of this study. Remember, here you have to try to eliminate the negative things and come up with a solid understanding about this organization and its success, which you think is worth learning for rest of others. 5.5.
