11-Nozioni generali 11-General notions
The Geophysical Methods detect the effects of
the lateral and vertical changes in the physical
properties of the buried rocks.
The presence of a buried body is often inferred
form the effects it induces.
The effects produced are called anomalies if
they are seen as a distorsion of the normal
expected field.
Abrupt changes (contrast) of physical properties
can be better detected because they cause
clearly defined boundaries.
The Geophysical data acquisition is usually
performed along profiles or by arranging the
measurement points (stations) over an area.
The detectors are placed on the ground or on
the water, but sometimes they are placed
undergroung. The Airborne acquisition is
possible for certain methods.

campo previsto.
Bruschi cambiamenti (contrasto) delle proprietà
fisiche possono essere meglio individuati perché
causano confini ben definiti.
metodi.

Sample-rate: The number of samples in a
particular unit of time or space.
The higher the sampling rate, the closer the
shape of the digital signal will be to that of the
original analog form.
The Geophysical information is usually
sampled in time and/or in space
Sample: a digital recording of a signal. Once
the information is "sampled" or digitized, it can
be trimmed, shifted, reversed, slowed or
speeded-up, and altered in a myriad of ways.
This manipulation is called processing.
Often geophysical data sampling
is not regularly spaced

I dati della Geofisica sono generalmente
campionati nel tempo e/o nello spazio
Campione: registrazione digitale di un segnale.
L’informazione “campionata" o digitizzata, può
essere tagliata, spostata, invertita, rallentata o
accelerata e alterata in molti modi. Questa
manipolazione è chiamata elaborazione.
Frequenza di Campionamento: Numero di
campioni in una particolare unità di tempo o
spazio.
Una maggiore frequenza darà un segnale
digitale più fedele a quello originale analogico.
Spesso il campionamento dei dati
geofisici non è distribuito regolarmente

Example:
Two sampling frequencies
(or sampling rates):
A. Low sample rate that distorts
the original wave (white).
B. High sample rate that perfectly
reproduces the original wave.

Esempio:
Due frequenze di campionamento
(o campionamenti):
A. Bassa frequenza che distorce
l’onda originale (bianca).
B. Alta frequenza che riproduce
fedelmente l’onda originale.
