I slutet av nittiotalet myntade den amerikanska konsultjätten Mckinsey begreppet ”the war for talent” Men trots att talangjaktstänkandet fortfarande dominerar inom den industriella sektorn har det även börjat etableras parallellasätt att få tillgång till intellektuella resurser. Tex Bill Jo, grundare av SUN Microsystems, poängterar att hur mycket tid och kraft som ett företag än lägger nerpå rekrytering och personalutveckling så är det ett ofrånkomligt faktum att alla smarta människor kommer inte att arbeta hos dig. Så om det oftast finns mer kunskaper, erfarenheter och resurser utanför företaget, så kan man fråga sig varför företag sätter upp företagsgränser istället för att söka hjälp på den öppna marknaden. Dessutom med en internetteknik vi idag har tillgång till så har det aldrig varit enklare eller billigare att bygga nätverk.
  4. År 1999 grundades den ideella stiftelsen Medicine for Malaria (MMV) med visionen att helt utrota malaria. MMV är inte något nytt läkemedelsbolag. Det är inte heller en välgörenhetsorganisation med fokus på donationsinsamling och lobbying. MMV vill bygga långsiktiga partnerskap med offentliga och privata aktörer i syfte att gemensamt, och gränsöverskridande forska fram, utveckla och leverera nya och billigare mediciner för behandling av och mediciner mot malaria. På tio år har forskningsportföljen vuxit stark och idag drivs ca 40 projekt och en kontinuerlig scanning och utvärdering av nya projektidéer. MMV uppskattar att det kostar dem omkring 250 miljoner dollar att utveckla ett nytt läkemedel. Mycket pengar men det ska jämföras med ”normalfallet” som ligger 800-1000 miljoner dollar. Kostnadseffektiv? Bra exempel på några av fördelarna med sk öppen innovation. Genom att samordna aktörer över organisationsgränser mot gemensamma mål skapas nya innovationsmöjligheter.
