Warm up activities

  1. WARM UP ACTIVITIES Sparkle Is a warm up activity which allow us practice the spelling and writing words, we can use it before starting class, to reinforce the last class or use it like an energizer . Purpose: Practice the spelling and writing words, have fun and relax. Age: is possible in all levels Procedure: 1. - The students have to do a circle in the middle of the classroom or stay in their places but standing up. 2. - Teacher gives a word and point to one student, to start. 3. - The first student says the first letter of the word, the next student says the next letter and do one. Until the word is spelled correctly. 4. - If a student is wrong he or she have to sit down. 5. - when the last student has said the last letter, he or she point to classmate and he/she says SPARKLE. That student has to sit down. 6. - The game continues with new words until only one student. You are the Chief Objective: Focus students, attention, concentration and frustration. Age: all levels Procedure: 1.-Teacher ask students to imagine that they are warriors (Aztecs, Vikings, etc.) 2.-Teacher choose one of them and say: You can be the new chief, the new chief have to pass in front of classroom and stoop with the eyes closed. 3.-The rest of the group have to pass one by one and try to touch the back of the new chief. They have to do it as quietly as possible. 5.-If new chief listen one He has to point the direction in which the warrior comes and say: I can hear you. 6.-Then a new warrior tries to be the new boss. 7.-When someone get it, then he will be the new chief and he has to guess again. EXPRESSIVE BODY Objective: Animation in class. Materials: small papers. Age: 6 to 10 Development: 1.-In small papers the teacher should write names of different animals; the teacher must write two times the same animal. 2.-The teacher have to fold the paper and then go through the place of students for each student to take a paper. 3.-Each student have to act like the animal that is written on the paper, he or she shouldn´t make noise, only body expression. 4.-Students have to seek for the other animal at the same species. 5.-When they think that have found the couple, they have to take from the arm. ABC GOAL: The objective of this activity is to have the class relaxed that may well perform better in class.
  2. LEVEL: all levels MATERIAL: in this activity do not use any materials. PROCEDURE: First, the teacher should write the entire alphabet on the blackboard After, under each letter should write the letter l y h left and right. Then the teacher will have to explain: they will go mentioning the alphabet, and also have to follow the letter are below each letter. Corresponding to left or right and depending on the letter it will have to go up his hands as appropriate. Counting and Jumping Material Required: None Time Required: 10 minutes Group Size: 5-50 Purpose: Physical Energizing, this exercise stimulates the humor, team spirit and reinforces commitment. Example: 3 (step back), 10 (step in front), 15 (step back) etc. *But to make it more difficult the teacher will do the contrary to see that students are really aware of what they are doing, so when it reaches an odd number, the teacher will give a step in front and when the teacher says an even number teacher will give a step back. Passing the ring Objective: Remember vocabulary from the previous class. Age: +10 Material: 4 rings, a stick for each student, 4 sheets and 4 pens. Time: 10 minutes Instructions: - Teacher forms four teams - Teacher gives a stick to each student, a ring to each team and sheet, and asks for a pen to each team. - Students leave the sheet and the pen on a table in front of classroom. - They form a line and everyone puts the stick in his mouth. - The last student in the line takes the ring and puts in the stick. - They have to pass the ring to the first student, using just the stick. They don't have to use their hands. - The first student in line write a word from the last class and then he/she takes turn to pass the ring. - Everyone takes turn and the winning team is the one with more words. Rodeo Animal Materials Needed: None Time Required: 7 minutes Purpose: Physical energizer Ask group members to think quietly in his favorite animal. Then ask participants the group without speaking, provided the need largest to smallest animal. The members of the group can only make gestures and the noise of the animal.
  3. After you have finished, have the group turn around and mention that animals were supposed to see if they were right. ROCK PAPER SCISSOR CONGO LINE Level: all ages Material: Large enough area for everyone to walk around in, another option is to have some background music. Objective: Competition, Team Support, Socialization, and having Fun Description: Each participant will start off with a partner in the group and they will go head to head in a Rock, Paper, Scissor match. The competitor who lost the match will then join onto the back of the winner and the winner will go searching for another competitor to try and beat with the cheering support of their new partner behind them. After that match the competitor who lost, once again joins the back of the winners Congo line to support the leader of the line and this will continue until it comes down to the final two competitor to determine the ULTIMATE Rock, Paper, Scissor competitor Guessing Movies Goal: to improve vocabulary and express spontaneously. Age: 8 to up English level: No matter Material Required: none This activity consists in make two teams of students, in every turn the members of the team have to select one person to pass in front of the class, so we have two students, the teacher must tell them a name of a movie in order the respective teams must guess which movie their friend is trying to act, the two students can say some clues. The members of the teams could ask questions like: Are you…?, What is the name of the main character? Is about…? The fist team in guessing the name of the movie is the winner, there could be many turns to make this fun. Pretty Woman Is a warm up activity which allow us practice some vocabulary in this case is focused in the parts of the body. we can use it before, inthe middle or at start the class, to reinforce the last class or use it like an energizer. Goal: Students have fun and relax at the same time they practice some vocabulary about parts of the body. Age: all ages and levels Development. this activity is done in pairs. 1. ask your students to stand up and shake your body. 2. asks students to find a partner with the same color shirt, tennis, the same birthday month etc. 3. Instructions: when the teacher says "ears" each couple must touch the ear of his neighbor, if his teacher tells the student must raise wakes etc. must be repeated each body parts and faster and faster till confusion achieved in students. SIMON SAYS!!
  4. GOAL:Simon says is a classic game that children will love as warm- up. So the goal of this activity is practice and promote listenining skills in orden to identify body parts. WHAT YOU NEED:-Two spaces markers (such as carpet or can be on the floor) WHAT YOU DO:1. Ask two students to stand in one of the sapace markers. 2.Explain that they should do as you say only when the command is preceded by the words: "Simon says". For example: ---Simon says touch your navel! and both students have to touch their navel. Note: You can add other actions for example: -Touch your partner´s nose!-Make a funny face!-Stand on one foot!-Give yourselg a hug!-Raise your arms!, an so on. 3.If your students obey all the commands (because the purpose is that students are able to understand you through of the development of their listening skills) give them a prize like not homework for them. SLAP. Purpose: To improve the verbs in english. Age/ level: Any level. Procedure: 1. The teacher has to make a circle with the whole group. 2. The teacher is going to show to the student what they are going to do: - The teacher is going to ask to the students to slap on their legs and then the teacher is going to ask: what is the name of the game? and the students have to answer: SLAP and then the teacher is going to ask again: what is the aim of the game? and now the students have to answer : LEARN MORE. - After inmediately the first step the teacher is going to slap one of his/her arms saying "one" and at the same time he/she is going to give the direction of the next participant that is going to say "two" and at the same timeis going to give the direction (right or left ) as the first case. -The students are going to continue playing and the student number 7 is going to put his/her arms in a parallel way and the arms that is up, is going to give the direction for the next participant. - Finally, the student number 10 is going to point whoever that is going to loose. 3. Every step of the game is likely that students are losing, in that situations the teacher has to ask to the student one verb in every tenses. 4. The game may be faster in each round and the likely that the students loose is more every time. 5. You have the chance to adapt the game according to your needs; for example: you can ask for fruits, colors, adjectives, animals, etc. Warm up: Drawings. Objective: To maintain students focusing Purpose: When they are bored, they have to throw their pessimism, so its help with it. Besides they practice the listening skill, It develop coordination, perception and also they learn vocabulary. Time: 10-15 minutes Material: Marker Age: All ages
  5. Procedure: The group has to walk around the classroom Teacher says one number (1-10) Students have to form groups according to the number that teacher says If one or two students fail, they have to guess the drawing that teacher has painted in the blackboard. If they guess, they continue with the game.
