Terrorism a Global Violence &
its remedies through
Non-Violence Activities
W. Romen Mangang
romenmangang.w@gmail.com
What is Terrorism?
• Comes from the French word ‘terrorisme’
derived from the Latin verb ‘terreō’ meaning
“I frighten”.
• An act that uses, or threatens to use,
premeditated violence against noncombatants
to coerce a group into some course of action,
the debate over the justness of terrorism is
about the relevant features of a terrorist act.
Terror Attacks
Since the 1970 to the present day - 104,000
cases.
Includes - 47,000 bombings,
14,000 assassinations, &
5,300 kidnappings.
There are around 256 International terrorists
group carrying on.
India alone has a total of more than 50 terrorist
incidents.
Types
Nationalist
Religious
State-sponsored
Left-wing
Right-wing
Anarchist
What does People Think?
• Islamophobia – Fear/ Hate of Islam
Reasons-
60% of the groups are Muslim extremist.
Journalist reports/ News
What makes a Terrorist?
Economic deprivation
Unemployment
Lack of education
Revenge
Belief
Social injustice
Social inequality
*The fact that these monsters are created by
ourselves cannot be denied
How to tackle?
• Killing the terrorist won’t end terrorism; it will
only help ignite it even more.
• Pro-active i.e., preventive measures
(Enlightenment)
“You can kill a person, but it will take ages to kill an Ideology.”
What is Non-violence?
• Nonviolence is about building positive
relationships with all beings — love,
compassion, respect, understanding and
appreciation.
• Nonviolence is also about not judging people
as we perceive them to be —
that is, a murderer is not born a murderer;
a terrorist is not born a terrorist.
How violence starts..
2 types of violence –
Physical & Passive violence
Wealth without work
Pleasure without conscience
Knowledge without character
Commerce without morality
Science without humanity
Worship without sacrifice
Politics without principle
*Passive violence ignites Physical Violence
Combating terrorism
• Wage of war has increased hatred and in turn
increase in terrorist militants
• Nonviolent measures should be indubitably
brought into consideration.
• Physical violence & Passive violence has to be
stopped.
Education
• A fresh educational principle will be able to
impact and transform younger generation on
the way to better .
“Enlighten your youths”
Proof..
A very interesting case happened in Jammu &
Kashmir, in India, where a NGO decided to
provide education to children in a terror hit
district. Surprisingly many terrorists surrendered
after they saw that their children were getting
good education and their families were now
getting support from the Government.
Employment
• Unemployment causes many of our youths to
turn to terrorism.
• As a matter of fact, even most of the people in
India choose Maoist ways to get what has
been taken away from them.
Developing Civic Society
• Developing civic society, improving
community relations, empowering women,
and practicing tolerance are the keys in
combating terrorism.
• Small steps can make a huge difference.
• Civic societies should work shoulders to
shoulders globally.
• Every diplomatic mission should make
convincing Muslims that the West is not an
aggressor a priority & vice versa.
Entrepreneurship
• Al Qaeda promise Paradise, the eternal life in the
Eden enjoying the company of God and a plenty
of pleasures as price for the sacrifice.
• But entrepreneurs can promise New Hopes.
• The effective way to aid other countries is just
listen to them. Our help will be answering
questions on what they want to do.
• Encourage persons with an entrepreneurial vision
means strength their hopes, their dignity, their
will to live better but as they want and not as we
do.
Stopping terrorism- End
the Hate
• By ending the wars and focusing on building a
better relationship with the people it will be
possible to end the threat of terrorism within
a generation.
• Continuing the circle of hatred is only going to
result in continued terrorism.
What they says…
"They (terrorists) are very brilliant
and educated...but a strong ill
feeling is bred in them. Their minds
are closed,“
-Dalai Lama
- He said the only way to tackle terrorism is through
prevention.
What they says…
“When in despair I remember that
all through history the way of truth
and love has always won; there
have been tyrants and murderers,
and for a time they can seem
invincible, but in the end they
always fall.”
-M.K. Gandhi
*Gandhi realized that political struggles are ultimately a
battle for hearts and minds.
Conclusion.
• War itself is a form of terrorism. Only
nonviolent methods can do , by attempting to
resolve the underlying political and social
factors that give rise to armed violence.
• Nonviolent is a necessary antidote to the
ideology of extreme violence.
• Gandhi often said, “An eye for an eye leaves
the whole world blind.”
• A positive attitude can change the world.
Thank You.

Notas del editor

  1. Al Qaeda promise Paradise, the eternal life in the Eden enjoying the company of God and a plenty of pleasures as price for the sacrifice. Terrorism promises a perfect life, with money, with happiness, and respect, a life with no enemies alive, when a man can walk tall in the street while other people are scared and envy him. Both are lies: if there’s a God he’s not waiting to embrace assassins, and when a boy join the world of crime the most part of his life will be hidden.
  2. By ending the wars in the Middle East and focusing on building a better relationship with the people in the Middle East it will be possible to end the threat of terrorism within a generation since the children of today will have little reason to hate if we are not killing their loved ones.  This will, of course, be difficult because those in the Middle East have also hurt and killed many people around the world, but continuing the circle of hatred is only going to result in continued terrorism.  Steps will still need to be taken to help prevent individual attacks for the foreseeable future, but for a problem such as terrorism it is critical to have both long and short term plans.
