4. CASE : NEUROFIBROMATOSIS
A soft lobular mass was discovered in the
lateral tongue of a 16-year-old male. He was
asymptomatic. Another mass was noted in his
thigh.
9. CASE : BENIGN SALIVARY GLAND TUMOR
A 51-year-old female became aware of a firm,
slowly developing mass in her palate. It caused no
symptoms. She was otherwise in good health. She
was taking medication for control of symptoms
associated with menopause.
12. CASE : MAJOR APHTHOUS ULCERS
A 40-year-old patient went to his dentist to
seek relief from constant oral pain (2 months’
duration). He had been unable to eat and had
subsequently lost 10 pounds. He had no skin,
eye, or genital lesions.
16. CASE : CHRONIC ULCER
A 75-year-old female presented for construction
of a new denture. Shortly after her denture was
completed, she complained of oral pain. She was
treated symptomatically for 2 weeks with little
change in the lesion. A lymph node became
palpable in her neck.
19. CASE : LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS
A 23-year-old female developed slightly painful
oral lesions. The lesions had been persistent for
several months. She has had cosmetically
objectionable skin lesions for 3 years. She was
otherwise in good health.

24. CASE : GRANULAR CELL TUMOR
An 8-year-old female presented with an
asymptomatic firm mass in her tongue. There
were no known etiologic factors and duration
was unknown. She was in excellent systemic
health.
27. CASE : OSTEOPOROTIC BONE MARROW DEFECT
An asymptomatic jaw lesion was found on routine
radiographic exam of a 39-year-old female. All
teeth were vital. A recent fine needle aspirate of a
breast lump was diagnosed as benign.
30. CASE : LICHEN PLANUS
Periodic oral pain prompted a 43-year-old male to see
his dentist. He was aware of the problem for more than 1
year, and it seemed to be getting worse. He had no eye or
skin lesions, but he recently developed painful penile
lesions. He was being treated for hypertension.

36. CASE : MUCOUS MEMBRANE PEMPHIGOID
A 53-year-old male developed painful gingival
lesions. He had no other oral, ocular, genital,
or skin lesions. He was being treated for
chronic alcoholism.

A 36-year-old male presented with a chief
complaint of lip lesions that were cosmetically
objectionable. The lesions appeared over the
last year. He also complained of mild to
moderate oral pain.

A 14-year-old female was seen because of
slowly developing facial asymmetry. She had
no symptoms. Her systemic health was
excellent.

A 62-year-old female presented with a history
of low-grade but continuous gingival pain of 6
months’ duration. Other than slightly elevated
blood pressure, she was in good health. She
took no drugs and was a non-smoker.

56. CASE : LATERAL PERIODONTAL CYST
A 60-year-old male sought replacement of an upper
denture made 20 years ago that no longer fit.
Radiographic assessment of his mandibular teeth revealed
a lesion in the right mandibular body. He had no
symptoms. He was being treated for diabetes and
hypertension.
59. CASE : CYSTIC ODONTOGENIC LESION WITH CYSTIC
AMELOBLASTOMA
A 24-year-old male developed swelling of his right
mandibular body. He was asymptomatic. He was
otherwise in excellent health.
