Rules for comparatives and superlatives (Reglas para comparativos y superlativos)
Examples Rules (Reglas)
Today is cold.
(Hoy hace frio.)
Today is colder than yesterday.
(Hoy hace más frio que ayer.)
Today is the coldest day.
(Hoy es el día más frio.)
REGLA 1
El comparativo y superlativo de los adjetivos de una sílaba
se forman agregando las terminaciones –er
(comparativo) y -est (superlativo) al final del adjetivo:
Cold >> colder >> coldest
Today is hot.
(Hoy hace calor.)
Today is hotter than yesterday.
(Hoy hace más calor que ayer.)
Today is the hottest day.
(Hoy es el día más caluroso.)
REGLA 2
Los adjetivos que terminan con vocal seguida de una
consonante duplican la consonante final antes de agregar
las terminaciones –er (comparativo) or –est (superlativo):
hot >> hotter >> hottest
That dog is noisy.
(Ese perro es bullicioso.)
That dog is noisier than that cat.
(Ese perro es más bullicioso que ese gato.)
That dog is the noisiest.
(Ese perro es el más bullicioso.)
REGLA 3
Los adjetivos de dos sílabas que terminan en -y cambian
la y por i y recién entonces agregan las terminaciones –er
(comparativo) or –est (superlativo) :
noisy >> noisier >> noisiest
She is beautiful.
(Ella es bonita.)
She is more beautiful than Lulu.
(Ella es más bonita que Lulu.)
She is the most beautiful girl.
(Ella es la chica más bonita.)
REGLA 4
En el caso de adjetivos de más de dos sílabas, el
comparativo y superlativo se forman generalmente
con more (comparativo) y most (superlativo) :
beautiful >> more beautiful than >> the most beautiful
Irregular adjectives good / bad / far / little
good betterthe best bueno  mejor el mejor
bad worse  the worst malo  peor  el peor
far farther  the farthest lejos más lejos  el más lejano

Rules for comparatives and superlatives (Reglas para comparativos y superlativos) Examples Rules (Reglas) Today is cold. (Hoy hace frio.) Today is colder than yesterday. (Hoy hace más frio que ayer.) Today is the coldest day. (Hoy es el día más frio.) REGLA 1 El comparativo y superlativo de los adjetivos de una sílaba se forman agregando las terminaciones –er (comparativo) y -est (superlativo) al final del adjetivo: Cold >> colder >> coldest Today is hot. (Hoy hace calor.) Today is hotter than yesterday. (Hoy hace más calor que ayer.) Today is the hottest day. (Hoy es el día más caluroso.) REGLA 2 Los adjetivos que terminan con vocal seguida de una consonante duplican la consonante final antes de agregar las terminaciones –er (comparativo) or –est (superlativo): hot >> hotter >> hottest That dog is noisy. (Ese perro es bullicioso.) That dog is noisier than that cat. (Ese perro es más bullicioso que ese gato.) That dog is the noisiest. (Ese perro es el más bullicioso.) REGLA 3 Los adjetivos de dos sílabas que terminan en -y cambian la y por i y recién entonces agregan las terminaciones –er (comparativo) or –est (superlativo) : noisy >> noisier >> noisiest She is beautiful.
