Dell Equallogic PS Series Is a Tier 1 storage Designed for end-to-end reliability and on demand scalability It comes bundled with “enterprise software feature sets” delivering Easy setup, unified management, rapid storage provisioning, self-tuning and optimizing performance Enhanced data protection feature sets
Steps: Consolidation of Storage Connect servers to IP network SAN has 3 gigE links/array, become a virtualized pipe Remove disks/storage/data from servers for a centralized and better protected storage environment Virtual pool of storage gets volumes of heterogeneous app and file data 2) Automation 1) server environment grows, consolidate more apps onto the SAN, e.g. Exchange and SQL 2) B/c of growing data and I/O needs, add another array. Arrays automatically grow storage pool, grow bandwidth, get more cache, etc. Note NFS file share grew easily/automatically in array (maybe TP can be mentioned) 3) this demonstrates grid storage, auto growth, easy expansion of capacity, performance, etc. 3) Backup 1) before, did backups directly off server – note, caused slowdowns, extra burden (red glow) on Linux server for example. 2) move to serverless/consolidated backup with transportable snapshots makes things easier, etc. etc. 3) Snapshots are represented by the checked circles shadowing the volume circles after the ‘flashbulb’ effect goes off. 4) Business continuity/DR with data replication 1) easily set up remote site SAN at off-site/recovery site where servers can be recovered from volumes that have been replicated asychronously from primary site. N.B. This doesn’t show failback of delta data or other solution capabilities, yet, or maybe we won’t just to keep it simple 5) Application Awareness/Protection: SQL and Windows File Systems 1) Auto-snapshot Manager with Smart Copy provides application consistent snapshots, clones, and replicas with quick restore
Ability to securely transfer initial replications to the remote site using transportable media of your choice Optimized to minimize space required for the data being transferred Thin provisioning aware
