We look at the rise of Modernism from 1800-1900. New technologies and philosophies culminate in a radical change in the social order of the western world. Romanticism, devoted to finding the spiritual in nature and occupying the gap between reason and emotion, is the first movement that asserts a 'modern' worldview, even as it draws inspiration from the classics.
