01. Location of the place visited and the title of study.
Ans: - we visited Bhaktapur Durbar Square a few month back, following our schools
trends of taking an annual field trip. The place lies at the heart of the historical
town, Bhaktapur. It is located about 14km to the east of Kathmandu. The title
of the study was “Historical significant of Bhaktapur Durbar Square and its
present condition”
02. Objectives:-
Ans: - The major objectives of our tour were: -
a. To identify the main items of interest in the Durbar Square.
b. To find out the present state of the Durbar Square.
03. Methods of study: -
In order to collect authentic data we applied the following methods:
a. Primary Methods: -
We visited the site and minutely observed the various elements such as
inscription, wood carving, sculptures temple etc found there. Besides it we
interviewed some of the people from the surrounding of the people from the
surrounding of the Square.
b. Secondary Methods: -
The UN agency, UNESCO has declared it one of the world’s heritage sites.
We founds Durbar Square as a conglomeration of the pagoda and Shikhar style temple
grouped around the 55windows palaces. The square is one of the most outstanding pieces
of archicture belonging to Malla era. We founds the following items of interest in the
Durbar Square.
i. The Lion Gate
ii. The Golden Gate
iii. The palace of fifty five windows
iv. Badhasala Temple
v. Other items, such as the art Gallery, Pashupati Temples, Nyatapol
Temple, Bhairav Nath Temple, etc.
2. 05. Present States: -
The present state of Bhaktapur Durbar Square is not so good. It is losing its
significant due to the construction of modern concrete building in the surrounding of the
square. Besides it, smoke emitted by vehicle and factories run through the premises of the
square has affected by the beauty of the sites. Due to dust, mud and rain, stone
inscription are getting blurred, at present, the 55 windowed palaces is under renovation.
The project has been undertaken by Nepal Government with the collaboration its task
within few months.
06. Conclusion and recommendation
We are contented with our research. It was really interesting and we were able
to achieve our goals through the study of the palace. We would like to recommend of the
following instruction for the preservation and promotion of the significance of this site:
i. It should be strictly prohibited the construction of modern buildings in the
surrounding of the square.
ii. Entry of vehicles into premises of the square should be properly checked.
iii. Cleanliness programme must be run regularly.
iv. Public awareness should be aroused regarding the importance of the site.
v. Renovation acts should be carried out in time if needed.
