Ludum Vitae
What is it?
A web app (w/ future mobile apps) - free
An activity suggestion and tracking engine
A game focused on motivating people in doing fun
activities that make them level up in all aspects of life.
Connected/integrated to social networks for social
sharing and experience.
The Game of Life
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Game Description
The game has challenges/activities in 10 areas of life
The game presents 3 challenges a day to the user
Alternatively, the user can pick one or more challenges
from the thousands in the app.
The challenges can vary from small quick activities to
long planned ones.

Game Description
Example challenges:
Call your grandmother today
Go to the movies, theater or a museum with at least 2 friends
Make a suggestion to improve something at your work
Donate books to a library
Take the stairs today
Spend at least 1 hour learning a language today
Go to Paris and spend at least 5 days there.

Game Description
Once completed a challenge, the user logs that s/he has
done it.
Each challenge gives an amount of points to one or many
areas of life (see further for a list of areas of life).
For example: “Climbing a mountain with 2 friends” will give
100 points to Adventure/Nature, 100 points to Health/
Endurance, 100 points to Social/Friends and 100 points to the
Attunement:Earth.
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Game Description
Each area and sub-area of life has levels.
The amount of points of a higher area is the sum of points
given to its sub-areas.
It is advantageous to give points to multiple areas of life as
users will be always leveling up in some aspects of it,
feeling a sense of constant progress and achievement.
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Every month, the user looses a small amount of points in
each area/sub-area of life (ex. 50 points), so s/he must keep
on doing activities.
The user can also earn badges for special achievements
(e.g. "The Traveller" for traveling to 5 different foreign
countries").

Game Description
Game Description
When a user logs an activity s/he must choose one
method for validation: a) swear by the code, b) ask 2
friends to vouch for it or c) post a picture for verification
+ 1 friend vouch.
The a) mode gives normal points, while the b) and c)
modes give double points.

Sub-areas of Vita
The sub-areas of Vita can be further divided.
Ex. Sports can be further divided in each sport, in order to help
people track their level of mastery and compare with their
friends.
Attunements are just a fun way to help people realize
their style. (ex: Fire is related to energetic / boost
activities; Earth is related to realistic / solid activities;
etc.)

Game Components and Ideas
Progress bars. Show progress bars for leveling in each area
and sub-area of life.
Leaderboards relative to user’s friends. (connect to
Facebook/G+). Show leaderboards for each area and sub-
area of life (always have something to brag about...)
Badges for all types of accomplishments in all areas of life
(ex. “The Green Boy/Girl”, “International Traveller”, etc.).
An Avatar, with customizations / virtual goods which are
unlocked based on the different levels of user’s areas of life.
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Game Components and Ideas
Activities based on world events and special dates earn
special badges.
Bonus points / badges for logging in activities consistently
(streaks).
GPS check-in system to prove location-based activities
Quest tracks for: quitting smoke, loosing weight, socializing
more, learning something new, etc.
Regular activities, ex. “Run 10 Km”, can be scheduled to be
logged periodically (w/ confirmation).
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
More Ideas
Have the crowd (users) submit activities/challenges for
consideration. Once a challenge is accepted and
incorporated in the app, the user earns considerable
amount of points in Contributing Back/Supporting the Game.
An API to allow for approved 3rd party apps to post
activities (ex.1: check-ins in restaurants in Foursquare earn
points relative to the appropriate areas. ex.2: a workout in
Fitocracy earns points in health related areas).
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Challenges of the Project
1. To come up with a balanced set of areas and sub-areas.
2. To create a lot of activities that are varied and FUN to
do.
3. To create a FUN and quirky user experience with
communication and design.
4. To make people know and try the app.
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Business Model
Have some activities sponsored by brands
Ex.1: “Recycle 50 cans of soda” (sponsored by Coca-Cola)
Ex.2: “Go to the Times Square on dd/mm/yyyy and, at exactly
12:00pm, raise your mobile phone above your head with a picture
of a white dove for Peace” (sponsored by a mobile carrier)
Activities must be FUN and beneficial to the user and/or the
world.
Sponsored activities also give points in Contributing Back/
Supporting the Game.
by / copyright © 2012: Ricardo Sé Cestari
Concept still in development.
Feedback and suggestions would be great!
Thanks!
Ricardo Sé Cestari
