- Even the growing range of devices via which we can access the Internet have warnings of caution. However those warnings are about plugging in electricity safely or not immersing it in water Other than that caution is rarely used with these devices that we trust and love
- I may love and trust dogs - but this does not mean that I should not be cautious
- Every single pupil with a computer has had it drummed into them to be cautious about talking to strangers who may be adults with dangerous ulterior motives turning children into victims of the Internet. However children are often not victims, and are placing themselves in danger by being the aggressors, perpetrators or facilitators of crimes. As we know the dangers of strangers, one of the biggest dangers is YOU
- Here are five main ways you may be putting yourself at risk through committing or assisting in crimes, or allowing others to harm you physically or emotionally by giving them access to knowledge about you.
- We sit in the comfort and safety of our bedroom, posting, browsing and checking out what we can about what friends and other people are saying, doing, watching, writing. We are completely isolated and safe in our little room. But we are not. If I can see others, they can see what I am doing, saying, posting, searching or browsing This leads on to the second point. I may sit in my comfortable bedroom sending out hate filled messages and posts and carrying out actions I know to be illegal. I am clever tho: I've set up fake e-mails so I can't be traced

- If you are arrested, you may keep silent. But the evidence of your malicious or obscene post is. Available in writing and is not simple to delete.
- Anything you might regret posting, don't post it. You may share a photo, message or video with only three friends, but once they have it they can do whatever they like with your content. A video or photo on YouTube or Facebook can easily be deleted: unless someone has already downloaded and saved it for their own purposes. Even a tweet: if you're lucky enough to remove something you regret before its been retweeted, you can never remove the impressions that those who saw it have in their head about you
- Competition to get as many friends as possible means that many people who have access to information you share with your friends and family, will never have met you but will know an incredible amount about you. To what use could this information be put towards
- Personal data. If you wouldn't wear it on your t-shirt, don't give any info or pics on line. You are providing information that someone you don't know, or a friend who may one day become an enemy can use against you. If you have posted private and personal information it becomes hard for you to make a complaint for what they do with the information, when they shouldn't have got it in the first place
- Everyone is clear on the dangers of strangers, but be clear on how you can make sure that you don't gain a criminal record for something that you may have posted as a joke or in a fit of anger Be cautious about providing friends and strangers with information about you that could be used against you, making yourself a victim by your own actions Find out more by looking at these sites They will be tweeted via the school account #rvhsteam
