need to produce products or services, but they also need to do it in
such a way that maximizes the chances of organizations to prosper in
the long-term.
3. One of the principles of lean manufacturing states that every
activity is a process that should add value to an organization
and products and services that it delivers to the customers.

4. Everything that passes through a process gets more value. For
example, if a desk in a business setting was a process, then
everything that passes through the desk gets transformed into
something more valuable. Paperwork gets completed, products get
built, and so on. All the transformations happen in a limited amount
of time and at a certain rate. They also use a certain number of
resources, such as energy, space, and tools.

5. If you now think about what happens at the desk in terms of flow,
you’ll be able to see what and where in the process was responsible
for adding value. This flow is called a value stream. A value stream
map, or a process map, is a visual representation of the process.
Process maps, that engineers like Ryan Kashubara create, focus on
the enterprise as a whole and cover all activities, not just separate
functional pieces that make the creation of a product or a service
possible.

Ryan Kashubara is a gifted process engineer from Ohio. He graduated
from Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio and continued his
education at Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
Ryan Kashubara grew up in Boardman, Ohio, raised by his separated
parents and he had a brother. During grades five to eight, he spent a lot
of time staying with his grandparents as his mother worked long hours.
