  4. Geography and History We will be travelling back in time to the Stone Age! What was life like back in 4000BC? We will be finding out about how people changed from being hunter gathers to settled farmers. We will also be completing a site study – Stonehenge, Skara Brae, Star Carr. Maths Maths themes for this half term are:  Place value  The four operations + - x  Statistics  Capacity  Times tables English We will be learning about biography and diary entries based around the life of the fossil hunter Mary Anning. For the first week only, we will be writing poetry about volcanoes We will introduce new spellings every Monday. A dictation lesson will take place every fortnight, on a Friday, in which spellings will be tested. Science - Rocks  Learning new language to describe and classify the features of rocks.  Investigation into the properties of rocks, drawing our own conclusions.  Soil profiles. STONE AGE TO IRON AGE Creative  Design and make a Stone Age shelter.  Cave Paintings.  Drawing Stone Age people.  Clay pots Computing This half term we will be using 2 Calculate to collect and represent data. Important Information Homework is set on a Thursday and handed in on a Monday. Homework  Homework for both English and Maths is set on a Thursday and is due in the following Monday.  Children write homework tasks in their planner.  Every other Thursday, Maths homework will be set on MyMaths.  If children do not have access to a computer or tablet at home, MyMaths homework will be printed.  Spellings are given out and tested on Mondays.
  6. Reading  All children are given a reading book from the Big Cat Collins reading scheme and a book bag. Books should be brought into school every day.  Books are changed once a week. The day varies according to individual classes  We aim to read on a 1-1 basis with every child once a week.  Please help us by reading at home with your child and by recording progress in their reading diary (inside the planner).  If your child has finished their school book, please record any other books you read at home.
  7. Swimming  Every class swims for two terms.  Swimming lessons take place at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre on a Monday morning.  Children should bring a swimming costume and a towel.  Long hair should be tied back and a swimming hat worn.  No jewellery is allowed .
  8. Keeping in touch  Please use planners to send messages.  Message can also be passed via the door in the morning.  Teachers are available at the end of each day at the door.
